Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

I hope you get a full refund OP. You deserve no less so don't be fobbed off!

I have never been to CP before and I was wondering about booking an autumn break there when dd will be about 18 months old. I will look elsewhere now! Cannot stand poor customer service.

marmaladeforme · 27/07/2017 16:13

Ohh how awful for you op. Hope you get a refund of some sort.

Madwoman5 · 27/07/2017 17:42

Reducing noise, meetings, sod that! You have paid a substantial amount of money for a peaceful, relaxing all singing all dancing break with your family. YOU ARE NOT GETTING WHAT YOU PAID FOR! Stop being so reasonable. Why have they not moved you? Are they relying on you enjoying aspects of your break so you reduce your stance on the impact? No no no.

Motoko · 27/07/2017 19:10

Madwoman they did offer another place, but it was only 100 yards away, and was smaller, without the extras that were provided with the villa that OP was booked in.

NoHatNoCattle · 27/07/2017 20:08

OP - I really feel for you. We were thinking about booking a CP break for October half term but based on the way they're treating you, we will avoid like the plague!!!

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 27/07/2017 20:39

For me it's entirely how centerparcs have handled this. They should have
A) prewarned people before they booked so they could decide for themselves if it would work for them
B) automatically discount the affected rooms without customers having to beg for help
C) given a total refund and offered a massive discount on another holiday break when the works finished

Quite why they've been so utterly shit I've no idea. They've totally fucked up a family's holiday - one that cost £2400!

Why they haven't managed the shit storm that followed I don't know - especially as I'd bet mumsnet are their target audience

Rachie1986 · 27/07/2017 22:04

Hope you have a settled last night and get things sorted tomorrow x

Floralnomad · 27/07/2017 22:11

Personally I'd have packed up and left after the first night and demanded a refund . It's very difficult to assess how much your holiday has been affected when you have actually had the holiday or as Judge Judy would say you ate the steak.

Piratefairy78 · 27/07/2017 22:21

Watching this with interest. I only live a few minutes away and several of my friends work at CP (but not high up). I've sent them a link to the thread and they're going to keep an eye out tomorrow. FWIW they all think you should have a full refund as well and hope you get it.

fairgame84 · 28/07/2017 08:17

Just seen this on FB and thought of you OP.
CP are clearly proud of their efforts.

I saw that FB post and tried to comment and mention the loud works but think they might approve posts? Or it's just delayed.

Hope you get a resolution today x

Ijustwantaquietlife · 28/07/2017 08:44

Legally I think the fact that you've stayed and not left after the first night would go against you. But if you really fight should get a full refund a stay comped.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 28/07/2017 08:47

Rach your comment is there. Just suggest we all like it!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 28/07/2017 10:45

It's on the Facebook page now, no mention of the disruption it's causing to guests at the moment though Hmm funny that

Mumblebeebee · 28/07/2017 14:30

Things were concluded today. CP have been generous with an offer and we are going to discuss it with the children once we have all recovered.
We left early. Very glad to be home.

I'm glad things have been resolved.

Thank you all for your support.

Been following your story. Glad they have resolved it hopefully to your satisfaction.

Articu · 28/07/2017 15:43

That's good news. I'm glad it's sorted.

Lynnm63 · 28/07/2017 15:46

Glad they've resolved it but even if you were given a full refund that may have covered the money you wasted but you've still had 4 nights with minimal sleep and you've been trying to give your kids a holiday on a building site whilst feeling shattered. I bet you wish you'd taken a holiday on the hard shoulder of the M1 it would have been quieter and less stressful!

milliemolliemou · 28/07/2017 16:26

I agree with Lynnm63.

Have read the thread but was there anything about the daytime building on the website (let alone the night time stuff)? That would be enough to put me off in a place which recommends itself as natural and peaceful.

Floralnomad · 28/07/2017 16:33

I imagine they've offered vouchers against another stay .

Ijustwantaquietlife · 28/07/2017 17:50

I think most people have moved on to patio doors but I do wonder what the generous offer is. Surely they would want you to share the details?

Fully comped stay and 50% off next time?

Curious2468 · 28/07/2017 17:53

Op if you want somewhere that's peaceful with a hot tub etc I can really recommend forest holidays. All the cabins are the same layout so it works well for my asd kids. It doesn't however have a pool etc on site but we can go most of the week without actually seeing other people! I have debated cp off and on for years but always had a feeling it was more show than actual peace and tranquility and your thread kind of proves that. Glad you sound like you have it resolved. I do so hope they have refunded you adequately!

rookiemere · 28/07/2017 18:04

I've been following this thread OP and I'm so glad you got it sorted - it really made me lose heart with CP.

Are you allowed to tell us what the offer is?

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 28/07/2017 18:08

They amended their website with details of building work (but not saying night or 24 hour work)

BUT cheekily it still says updated in June or something - whereas it was changed yesterday. I think they're trying to pull a fast one pretending it was there all along. Shame i screen grabbed it then really....

Op - glad things have worked out for you. I hope the offer was pretty much 100%. How anyone can be offered a peaceful relaxing holiday on a building site I've no idea. How did they think they'd get away with it?!

SunshineAndSmile · 28/07/2017 18:10

Glad you resolved this OP but again seriously £600 a night to stay at CP!!
