Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

Did they even explain why the construction is continuing on through the night and who gave the builders the go ahead to do it overnight?

hmcAsWas · 25/07/2017 09:05

I returned from a weekend in Longleat CP yesterday. I didn't notice any construction (but I am often blissfully oblivious) - we were in a villa in Pine not far from the Village Square. Where is the construction going on? I think you should be offered a part refund if the noise is that intrusive

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2017 09:05

Zippy we had a similar experience, also took the vouchers

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:05

Big Sandy .oh yes she could but that's her choice for whatever reasons.

MSLehrerin · 25/07/2017 09:06

@Edsheeranalbumparty I'm with you. I just don't get the Centre Parcs thing at all either. It's definitely a middle class Butlins. We went in between Christmas and New Year a couple of years ago. I was horrified at the standard of accommodation we got for the price we paid. The pool was heaving and we even witnessed a few women downing pints of lager in one before jumping in to the pool 😃
Never again. As a PP has said, everyone has different tastes - it wasn't what I was expecting for the price we paid but if that sort of thing floats yer boat then good and well!

hmcAsWas · 25/07/2017 09:07

Sorry ignore - just saw your update giving location

StealthPolarBear · 25/07/2017 09:08

Posted too soon. Heard the work going on every now and again but it never actually bothered us. Couldn't see a thing unless we actually tried. Vouchers to spend in shop and restaurants. We'd do it again :)

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 25/07/2017 09:11

We've had a couple of instances where we've had compensation, just so you can get a ball park idea of what they might offer:

We have not long returned from a Center Parcs holiday (not Longleat). We were informed a few months beforehand that there would be daytime (8-5) building works close to our lodge, we were given the option of being moved or accepting a 10% reduction. We took the reduction (and the refund of our villa preference fee). The building works were slightly visible but overall pretty quiet.

Also, a few years back, we were disturbed overnight by a faulty smoke alarm (the night staff had to come out to dismantle it at 2am). I spoke to guest services the next morning (mainly to cancel our morning activity bookings because we were knackered) and they gave us £150 discount off our next break (we were already booked to return so it was easily deducted). Bear in mind, our accommodation costs were under £1000 so percentage-wise that was somewhere between 15-20%.

I hope they bend over backwards for you OP.

Kickhiminthenuts · 25/07/2017 09:11

Clearly plenty of people are happy to pay that price or they've wouldn't be full.
I can see if you've different aged kids it's good, something for all and relative safety for freedom.
its out of my budget but I get it, we all like different things.

Op that's bloody disgusting, is want a full refund and some for putting up with that. I've got building work going on next door there's no way I'd be happy paying to be near that let alone at night as well.

hmcAsWas · 25/07/2017 09:11

MSLehrerin - its not compulsory to use the pool which can be a bit grim due to being overly busy. We've been a couple of times and not bothered with the pool. There's crossbows, field archery, paintball, high ropes challenge, quad bikes and a huge variety of other things all located in the same place. Great for older children and teens who want to be active

JacquesHammer · 25/07/2017 09:12

Why are people googling holidays abroad when the OP didn't want a holiday abroad. 😂

All this "£600 is ridiculous" is nonsense. The OP chose where they wanted to go, and can afford it. It isn't the issue.

Hope you get a good resolution OP

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 09:12

To answer people who are flaming us for the cost of the holiday.

We have had to factor in special needs. This means that things are better when they are the same, repetitive, predictable and therefore enjoyed by all of us.

Otherwise I'm battling with children not coping and it stops being a holiday.

This villa is rolled out more or less the same in all the Center parcs, which works well usually.

£580 a night gets us 4 double ensuite rooms, with games room, sauna and daily housekeeping. It usually means a successful family holiday for 6, enjoyed by us all.

People us eh pool because it's free and they've already spent a fortune to stay there. All those extra activities, how much do they cost?

Silvercatowner · 25/07/2017 09:14

THREE different sites, a family of 2 adults and 4 children, one week, in Spain, in France, and in Greece

Eurgh..... cheapie package holidays crammed in hotel rooms and stuck by a pool...... no thanks!

AcademicOwl · 25/07/2017 09:14

Twitter is your friend, OP.

I've never fancied cp. we do a mix of holidays, but in the uk mostly do luxury cottages. Staying in a nice one with 3 beds, all ensuite bathrooms next week for roughly £1000 for the week. Seven nights.

This has definitely put me off.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:15

silver How about a villa that sleeps 6 with a pool and car hire ?

AngelaTwerkel · 25/07/2017 09:16

Notknownatthisaddress

I'm sure the OP can also google. She obviously chose CenterParcs for a particular reason, which isn't the focus of this thread. Who gives a shit, it's her money.

Dowser · 25/07/2017 09:16

It was only a Travelodge and it cost 220 for three nights but
No one told us about the work going on in the hotel before we arrived
On the Friday. Work started on the previous Monday.
I'm the only driver and a bad sleeper and need my rest, had I been told I'd have switched my booking....definitely.

So I complained. I got one night refunded. I said it wasn't enough. They refunded. Two nights. I said it wasn't enough. Eventually I got all my money refunded.

Guests were treading through dust, sand, gravel it was horrible and noisy. I don't usually suffer with stuffed up nose etc but I did after that.

I would insist on a full refund and a complimentary break for your troubles op. Centre parcs pride themselves on relaxing breaks and that's a big part of the holiday.
I wouldn't give in till I got it.

Donthate · 25/07/2017 09:16

Hope the manager comes up with a good solution!

No need to justify your choices OP - some people just like raining on parades/pissing on chips.

Obviously CP is thriving - clearly people don't go there, start their holiday and think 'oh the horror.....'.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 25/07/2017 09:17

Will people stop, going on about the cost?! All people have different expectations, you just sound very naive if you can't get over the fact someone else's holiday cost more than yours.

Maybe the OP doesn't want to go abroad on a cheap holiday? She WANTS so stay in the uk, and go to Centre Parcs. We usually stay in the UK and have paid around 600 a night for 2 adults and 2 children. My idea of hell woudl be taking children on a plane, to a hot country. Everyone is different!

And it is very, very easy to pay more then £600 per night, per room in a hotel in London, we do it and why it would concern anyone else, is beyond me.

alteredimages · 25/07/2017 09:17

There is no way that they will have covered their arses for noisy work through the night because that is almost certainly illegal and they should be worrying about enforcement officers paying a visit.

It sounds like they were taking OPs complaint seriously and I hope they compensate her fairly.

MsHarry · 25/07/2017 09:17

some people just like raining on parades/pissing on chips.

Exactly what you are doing silver.
Eurgh..... cheapie package holidays crammed in hotel rooms and stuck by a pool...... no thanks!

MSLehrerin · 25/07/2017 09:18

@hmcAsWas you can't go to CP with kids and not use the pool! And all of the other activities cost a fortune. I was simply commenting on something I'd seen.

The OP can have whatever holiday suits their family group - my point was that I just couldn't join in the enthusiasm for CP. to each their own and all that

ShatnersWig · 25/07/2017 09:18

Really fascinated to see what the Village Manager comes back with (sounds like something to do with 60s TV show The Prisoner...) as I think this is a pretty appalling situation and there really isn't an acceptable excuse for that sort of noise through the night and an offer to move you a few yards down the road is spectacularly rubbish.

I know you've been before and would probably happily go again (as long as you knew there were no building works going on) but I would not accept discount off a future stay if that was offered. I'd want total refund for the existing break as you're going to be too knackered to do the activities you've pre-booked and paid for.
