Longleat Center Parcs, taking £600 a night to be on a 24hr building site! Aaagghh

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 02:05

We are currently staying at Longleat centre parcs. Having saved for this for a year, it's costing an eye watering £600 a night for 4 nights. Total £2400.

What we weren't told was our villa was opposite a 24 hour construction site. Which, as I type is sounding like smashing bottles being thrown into a bottle bank crossed with several generators running.

I'm fuming, no sleep possible and we have 4 children to entertain tomorrow.

AIBU to have expected Center Parks not to have booked out our villa knowing this. Or at very least warned us.

Any advice? We've called customer services at 2am to be told that extra work was being carried out!

I'm not happy at all.

I always found Centre Parcs to be too expensive.

IdaDown · 25/07/2017 07:37

Any other town/village you wouldn't be able to do work through the night or there would be strict rules to follow (thinking general building work v cross rail etc...). Can they 'get away with this' because it's on private land i.e. Longleat Estate?

Who's doing the work - Centre Parks or Longleat Estate? Not that it matters to you, the effects are the same. But, you could also complain to the Estate.

NancyDonahue · 25/07/2017 07:41

I was put off cp after seeing just how much their prices rise in the school hols. It's not just more expensive, it's sometimes 3 or 4 times more expensive. There's NO justification for robbing parents of school age children to subsidise those thathat can holiday at any time of year. Charge a bit more yes, but keep it at a more even rate throughout the year.

Zoflorabore · 25/07/2017 07:43

Wow this is awful op.

Please do not let this drop and be quite firm with your tone that you fully expect some recompense for your inconvenience.

As a pp said, you have had last night disturbed and been awake all night which will undoubtedly knock on for the rest of the break.
Are there any other lodges nearby that will also have been affected? Power in numbers etc.

Surely there must be rules on anti social hours doing building work? Are they in breach of some code or another? I would get checking.
Then more ammunition you have, the better.

caffeinestream · 25/07/2017 07:46

They charge it because they know people will pay it!

£2400 for four nights in a holiday park where you still have to pay for all your food and most of the activities on top - madness!

chocolateworshipper · 25/07/2017 07:52

Oh no - we're off to Longleat at the weekend!

OP - do you mind me asking which part of Longleat you are?

I do hope they move you and give you some compensation x

Yarp · 25/07/2017 07:54

This is awful

Though it's very expensive, I have always loved CP, but this really is taking the piss. They are raking in as much as they can on the big luxury houses and it's spoiling the feel of the place. I think the simplicity of a little house in the woods was one of the things that attracted us

It's Longleat by the way. I am not saying this to be an arsehole, but because if you mis-spell it they might take you less seriously

FlandersRocks · 25/07/2017 07:54

YANBU and should get a decent amount of refund...keep pushing them until you do!

Can't get over £600 a night though just for CP...good grief. You could easily go for a week abroad for £2400, even in school holidays.

Anyone looking for an alternative to CP, try Bluestone, near Tenby. We've been twice now, the older dc (9 and 7) absolutely love it and it's much more reasonable than CP.

Yarp · 25/07/2017 07:56

.... ah I see piggy already said it

Hunted68 · 25/07/2017 07:58

For all those wondering, the price is the most expensive type of Villa. Prices range from around £400 for a one bed apt to around £1700 for 4 bed villa in holidays usually.

Branleuse · 25/07/2017 07:58

I had this a few years ago. I complained to management, they tried to fob me off. I complained on Twitter and they eventually moved me. I got moved to a different villa once available and got some vouchers. It's shit though, it ruined the holiday, as no wildlife came because of the building site. Stand your ground and don't let them fob you off. They should have rented the building site villas out cheaply with a warning.

Frazzled2207 · 25/07/2017 07:59

Wow that is appalling. I'd be quick footing it to the customer services people as soon as they open. If they don't deal with it satisfactorily have a proper rant on twitter. I've only been to cp in cheap term time, when it costs a fraction, and I'd be livid.

AdalindSchade · 25/07/2017 08:00

Does it really matter how expensive it is? Yes it is expensive but that's what the op wants to spend her money on.

Ceto · 25/07/2017 08:01

Rather than just coming out to listen, they should have moved you to another villa or out to a local hotel. Full refund needed for yesterday and today, plus a move.

Mumblebeebee · 25/07/2017 08:02

Off to complain. Had about 3 hours sleep so feeling groggy.

I'm concerned if we are moved it will take best part of a morning to repack, transport, unpack and settle. Also in the mix is one son with ASD so moving will throw up extra issues.

Sorry about spelling, it was a rough night

Stick to your guns OP. Unfortunately no refund will make up for the lost time, hassle and stress. I'm mad on your behalf Angry

maryelizabeth71 · 25/07/2017 08:04

We love CP and have been to Longleat many times over the years.

I would be fuming and would go to town making a complaint......depending on how long this goes on for I would want a full refund.

AdalindSchade · 25/07/2017 08:05

True.
You also have to consider annual leave used and transport costs. They shouldn't just refund the 2 days ruined they should compensate you as well. A voucher for 2 free days to use in future maybe.

Yarp · 25/07/2017 08:05

It's so shit

What you expect from CP is relaxation - you only have a few nights, and a day of worrying about this can ruin it. I feel so sorry and angry for you

elevenclips · 25/07/2017 08:07

I'd expect a full refund for that, hardly a holiday. Stressful and inconvenient. Our whole family went to Spain for a week all inclusive 4* for a very similar price. Don't know how CP get away with those prices Shock

elevenclips · 25/07/2017 08:08

I think the cost is relevant in this case as it's gigantic and you'd expect 5* luxury for that.

Rachie1986 · 25/07/2017 08:08

Stick to your guns! Point out about the lost time moving etc. Def partial refund minimum and move. Keep us updated!

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/07/2017 08:09

I'd expect a refund for the day time construction work, let alone the night time!! They advertise as peaceful and tranquil, I would be fuming

ofudginghell · 25/07/2017 08:10

Absolutely shocking.
To the posters saying you could go abroad for that price, right now at the start of the busiest season you definitely couldn't.
We looked and the best we came up with for two adults and two dc was £4000 and that wasn't all inclusive.

Also travelling abroad with four dc and passports etc etc is bloody hard work.
It's meant to be far easier to holiday here in the uk.
Shame on cp.
I would be kicking off on social media by now

ASDismynormality · 25/07/2017 08:10

Hope they move you.

We are going to CP in a couple of weeks and I would be really upset if the same happened to me. Part of the attraction of CP is the peace of the location and the predictability of the place.
