I've just had my hair done, hair extensions at the hairdressers, altogether £410 and I didn't tip.
Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.
Do you tip?
And if so how much?

Yes it's the MN equivalent of a sarcastically raised eyebrow @FanjoForTheMammaries 😃 rarely used these days, more's the pity.

BingoFlamingos · 22/07/2017 17:50

Honesty OP where do you live 😩 I lost my lovely, fairly alright paying Public sector job in may, I'm struggling to find anything new, I'm four months pregnant and DP and I are living with my mum and dad in my still very teenagerly decorated childhood bedroom, because I cannot afford to live.
I have roots inches long, I've been eating canned tomatos on toast for almost every meal for the last fortnight and I'm so far over my overdraft just physically existing I don't know how I'll ever pay it off.
We don't qualify for council housing but it's our only real way out.

MSLehrerin · 22/07/2017 17:53

@BingoFlamingos and you'll feel a bit annoyed at someone paying £410 for hair extensions.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 18:03

Il say this once more il spend money I have saved from my wages however I see fit.
It's nothing to do with anyone,it's my own money!
I'm not unemployment,I have a job which I work hard at! And then I get to spend the money however I see fit..
I'm not responsible for someone loosing a job or that the council won't help them.

Bingo- how do you not qualify for council housing?

OP posts:
MSLehrerin · 22/07/2017 18:06

Agreed to all of that @Ashkey234. But don't come on to an Internet forum and brag about spending an obscene amount of money, then make inane comments about whether you should have left a tip and that you now are struggling to pay for carpets for your new LA house. You'll continue to get the kind of answers you've objected to.

Do what you want with your money. It's yours and you've worked for it. But don't brag about it. Not everyone has the luxury of spending that amount on themselves and this would feed a family for a good amount of time.

AccrualIntentions · 22/07/2017 18:06

So if your money is nothing to do with anyone else and you'll spend it as you see fit (fair enough), why on earth would you choose to post about it in AIBU?

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 18:08

I came on the forum to ask how much if anything you tip!
Not to defend myself to a bunch of idiots who clearly haven't got a brain between them

BingoFlamingos · 22/07/2017 18:09

I'm not annoyed so much just baffled. It's all ok for me and I manage thanks to my amazing parents. I still try to do my little monthly shop for the food Bank, and I make sandwiches and take them out to the homeless in my local city (with the fiscal help of my mum, we've done this all my life), I'm aware that having a warm house that I can stay in and having parents who are still Fairly young (just turned fifty and 54) who both have very stable jobs and own their home who won't let me starve or be in dire poverty makes me hugely privileged. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little jealous of the OP's housing situation Blush

toughduck · 22/07/2017 18:14

I tip, but mainly because the guy I use is the first person to actually show care for my hair and to guide me to what suits. I appreciate the work he does and my nerves of going to the hair dresser have subsided substantially, though I wouldn't use any one else still!

BingoFlamingos · 22/07/2017 18:14

OP
FWIW I'm not judging you at all. You can do what you want with your money and you have as much right to a house as anyone else.
There's not enough to go round, and that's the problem.
For those asking I don't qualify because staying with parents doesn't make you homeless, and if I were to leave it would be voluntary homelessness.
(I think it actually puts me in lowest priority and my council do not house the people in my band)

MaisyPops · 22/07/2017 18:16

I came on the forum to ask how much if anything you tip!
As ive said before on thia thread, if thays your question then the fact that you live in a council property has absolutely no RELEVANCE to the situation at all. and cynically it was only added in because you knew people would bite
Not to defend myself to a bunch of idiots who clearly haven't got a brain between them
You tell the world you are so tight on money that tipping might break the bank because you are struggling to afford home repairs and then spend £400 on hair. Spend £400 on hair all you like, but expect a pity party when spending money on hair means no money for other things.

Money spent = money not available for other things.
People are going to point those inconsistent priorities regardless of where you live.
At the end of the day, you knew putting certain bits of info would get a response and now the response has happened you don't like it and are just insulting people.

noeffingidea · 22/07/2017 18:16

I don't always tip hairdressers (not that I go very often), I did the last time because I felt that she did a really good job and went out of her way to give me helpful advice about caring for my hair, took ages on helping me to decide what would suit me, in other words I felt she went to extra effort to provide a good service.
I don't think tips should be given automatically, I think they're more a recognition of good service.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 18:17

(Bingo flamingos)I'm sorry your having a tough time at the minute,I hope things get better for you soon
Congratulations on your pregnancy ..I hope you have a healthy pregnancy Flowers

Insulting people??? What like the pages and pages of insults people have give me?
Oh I forgot its ok for people to insult me

OP posts:
AccrualIntentions · 22/07/2017 18:21

So why not ask just that, instead of adding in all this unnecessary bumpf about council houses and carpets? Oh wait, because that wouldn't cause as much drama or get people to bite and allow you to feel you can call them idiots without functioning brains.

MaisyPops · 22/07/2017 18:37

Ashkey234
I haven't said it's fine for people to be nasty so don't play the victim (like so many other posters who create goady threads and then don't like it when people bite).

I have said that you've created a thread designed to get a reaction (why else would a straightforward question about tipping mention the high cost of hair extensions and the fact that you are struggling to afford home renovations and the fact it's a council house?).

Unsurprisingly, the information given has pushed people's buttons. Then you're getting annoyed that people are questioning you/judging you.

By the end of your first post the outcome on this thread was predictable.

MSLehrerin · 22/07/2017 18:48

@Ashkey234 I'd better return my under and post-graduate degrees then if you think I don't have a brain.....😉 Two Universities have obviously got it soooooo wrong.

Katiekatie37 · 22/07/2017 18:51

This is quite corrupt but bingo your situation does sound desperate, if your parents were to write a letter to say they can no longer house you and are evicting you, you'd be a priority and haven't made yourself intentionally homeless.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 18:54

You can have as many degrees as you like ..doesn't make you a decent person with an ounce of compassion!
