Should I of ?
I'm moving in the next few weeks and as its a council house I need to buy all new carpets as its basically a empty shell so i need every penny I can get really.

We have declared everything to our local housing and still are able to social rent, every family in our street now both party's are working also.
I have a friend who is a nurse and her partner works and they are in social housing too, clearly the rules are different up here.
There's lots of social housing up here

Who would actually give up a house to private rent a house in the same street and pay a extra £200 or more and be kicked out at any moment

Very very few people. Except the bunch of MNers who will come on to tell you they did exactly that just because they wanted someone who needed a council house more than they did to have it.

Back in the real world, no one gives up a secure tenancy to private rent just to help out the more needy.

emancipationofalex · 22/07/2017 13:52

Ahhh OP and there we have it 'who would pay an extra £200 to rent privately when they're in a cushy council house?' the same people who pay £400 on their hair when they can't afford carpet.

doobree · 22/07/2017 13:56

Then that is lucky for you. At least acknowledge your good fortune a bit more, and realise that your anxiety over your finances are mis-placed and out of proportion. Sometimes anxious thoughts are just nonsense-bullshit. Hoorah if they turn out to be just fears and not real!!

Honestly, you really would not want to be in our situation which I can't go into. I bet I can't get onto the list in your area though so tough luck for me.

I think should be coming away from this thread feeling much more postive about your life and hopefully this will help your anxiety :)

Lweji · 22/07/2017 13:57

Being able to afford a one off £400 haircut does not mean someone has enough money to private rent or buy a house.

If you keep spending such amounts of money on one offs you'll never be able to buy a house, that's for sure.

The people saying spending £400 on hair are probably the same people who have or are going to spend a lot more on a holiday this year!
Double standards at its finest

@U2HasTheEdge Oh I hate people like OP but I blame the council not her. It's not right though and she at least should admit she is playing the system.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 14:13

How am I playing the system exactly?
Can you tell me that please I'm dying to know?
When the housing have clearly stated that even tho my partner knows lives here our tenancy remains unaffected?
How is that playing the system?

I'm going off topic slightly here, up this thread has brought up a couple of thinking points: first, some people spend an enormous amount of money on hair - a PP said £280 on cut and colour I think. How? My daughter's (long and curly) hair with foils costs £53!
Secondly, and this is way off topic, posters here are talking about quite large tips paid out regularly, plus some give chocolates and wine at Christmas, yet loads of posters have just been going on and on about how it's wrong to give teachers/TAs an end of year gift because they have 'just done their job, they're paid for it'. How are you squaring that?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/07/2017 14:31

Cardibach

Depends where you live, ten years ago in London I was paying £85 for a cut and blow now we're out of London I pay £45.

MSLehrerin · 22/07/2017 15:20

Driller on the rigs salary 😉

Do you tip at hairdressers? I didn't and now I feel guilty
BlahBlahBlahEtc · 22/07/2017 15:27

I have some family that are drillers on rigs... they earn a FORTUNE. Something doesn't quite add up here obviously

80sMum · 22/07/2017 15:35

I never tip hairdressers. They are professionals doing their job and I pay whatever they charge for the service they provide. To give them a tip would be like tipping the plumber when he comes to fix the drains, or the tipping the DPD delivery driver etc. It isn't necessary. On the whole, tipping is demeaning to the recipient, imo; it's like giving pocket money to an adult.

Ashkey234 · 22/07/2017 16:02
