Apparently the whole country is waiting to celebrate her birthday (according to ITV)
Well Dh certainly isn't!
He was a big fan when he was a lad, and went to see her in a pantomime.
Waiting at the stage door after the show for an autograph with other star struck youngsters, she came out and told them all to Piss Off and clear off home Shock
He said she was the most horrible, rude person and that he never watched her in anything again.
Which celebs have you met that didn't match up to the pedestal you had them on?

I met Simon Woodroffe (Yo! and Dragon's Den) and he was lovely.

Timefortea99 · 18/07/2017 20:13

Always thought that Fox came across as precious.

LeMesmer · 19/07/2017 00:46

Mine are very obscure sports ones. Darren Clarke lovely with DS wen he was practicing, stopped and had a photo with DS without being asked. On the course a bit different. Miguel Angel Jimenez absolutely lovely. John Daly talked for ages to DS when he asked for his autograph, as others have said perhaps had it been before his sober years it may have been different.

I was chatting to somebody recently who had appeared on The Chase last year, he said Bradley Walsh was really nice

Also some friends met Hulk Hogan who was happy to chat and pose for photos

So happy to hear Gordon Ramsay is lovely, he is my hero, id love to meet him!

littleshirleybeans · 19/07/2017 13:14

I saw Robert Carlyle in Sainsbury's a good few years ago, I really really adore him. A couple of the guys who worked through the back came out and shouted on him, asking for autographs. He was lovely to them.
I kinda wanted to talk to him myself but I felt like I should leave him alone to get on with his shopping. I did get a wee smile from him though as I walked past him.
I said to Martin Fry,
"Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love Grin"
He was extremely gracious, turned round and smiled and said,
"Maybe."
I have loads more but I'd need to namechange for them!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/07/2017 14:06

I know someone who met Robert Carlyle Littleshirley and they said he was lovely, too. I think he's gorgeous.

RolfNotRudolf · 19/07/2017 14:57

My young boys and I met Jarvis Cocker once - we were all hanging around a children's stall at a festival following his performance the night before. He was with his son, hence visiting this particular stall.
He was very polite and personable and patiently answered a couple of questions from my sons.

That's the first and probably last time that Jools Holland has made me laugh! Not that he fell over but the bow he did afterwards Grin

Patriciathestripper1 · 19/07/2017 20:20

cowgirl Jools Holland has even made falling look sleazy/creepy leaves thread to take a shower

Bloody love this thread. When George Michael died and all those stories came out about his kindness and generosity, there was a thread like this on Facebook. Michael Ball is apparently the nicest man in the world, although I haven't met him myself. Palin obvs.

beguilingeyes · 20/07/2017 20:50

In my youth I was a massive Queen fan and in love with Roger Taylor. I was at the theatre with a friend once and we spotted RT with John Deacon (Queen bass player) and Rick Parfitt in the Royal box. After the show we nipped up there and asked them for autographs. They were all very nice but Rick Parfitt was a total sweetheart. So friendly and charming. I was really sad when he died. Lovely man.

BabychamSocialist · 20/07/2017 20:54

Camilla always looks like she'd be a right laugh after a few drinks. She has a warmth to her. It does make you wonder if everyone would've been happier all round if Charles could have married her when they met earlier in life.

In answer to the thread - Elvis Costello is absolutely lovely and was great with DS1 and DS2 after a gig. I was glad, because I've been in love with him for years!

cloudchasing · 20/07/2017 21:09

My dp is a taxi driver, and he's been driving Paul Burrell around recently. He says he's an absolute darling, very warm and engaging.

Last few months ago, he stopped to help a woman that was walking along a street in a nightie with bare feet. She said she'd taken an overdose, and dp got her into the taxi while he called an ambulance, so she could keep warm.
While they were waiting, a woman came over on a bike, and sat chatting to the lady, comforting her, and relating her own life experience. It was Rosamund Hanson, Smell from This Is England. What a love.

BuggeryBollox · 20/07/2017 21:20

We met David Walliams at a book signing. My DC were so excited but he was quite sneery & more or less blanked them. I was so cross & can't bear to watch him now.

Matthew Perry was also incredibly rude. We waited to meet him after seeing him in a play - along with loads of others. He just walked straight past & refused to engage at all.

Alexander Armstrong & Ben Miller are absolute sweet hearts though. Very funny & happy to chat.

IndieTara · 20/07/2017 21:34

I spent a day with Murray Walker 9 yrs ago. A really lovely man and absolute legend. Noddy Holder was nice too

Giraffey1 · 20/07/2017 21:39

I sat next to Gary Lineker once many years ago. He didn't speak to me once, it was as if I wasn't there.
Geoffrey Boycott was incredibly rude and treated me and a work colleagues like we were his personal slaves.
I found Jeremy Paxman quite pleasant but he came across as incredibly shy.
Johnny Morris - met him when he making money as a public speaker and he was as drunk as a talking skunk, and quite rude.

Clawdy · 20/07/2017 22:18

Met Toby Jones at the Oxford Lit Fest, he is an absolute darling. And rather more attractive than he looks on the screen.

BabychamSocialist · 20/07/2017 23:19

Emma Thompson is absolutely lovely, as I mentioned elsewhere. Plus, I like how she actually put her money where her mouth is and took a refugee into her home - what a woman - he calls her mum now!

KERALA1 · 20/07/2017 23:41

Emma thompson and Helena bonham carter lovely (used to live near them) friend worked with them. Judi dench and Colin firth lovely too.

Geri halliwell extremely mean to my friend who served her in a shop too grand to talk to her direct just via assistant Hmm

Jason statham and Rosie thingy - none too bright and not much there.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 21/07/2017 00:30

I've met quite a few celebs and politicians over the years for work. Most were pleasant, fairly down to earth people. The notable exceptions were Ian Botham and Jeffrey Archer - Both horrible, arrogant knobheads.

Tony Benn on the other hand was an absolute gentleman and couldn't have been nicer. Was rather intimidated by him before hand because of his fiery persona in politics, but he was a delight.

LittleRedRidingHood99 · 21/07/2017 11:32

Well I will have to search my memory over the years!

Jimmy Carr - lovely, met a number of times after shows

Bonnie Langford - wonderful

Nadia Swahala - lovely

Frack carson - hilarious lovely man

Ant and Dec - ant a little reserved Dec lovely and just as on tv

Cat deeley - rude

Lisa from steps - lovely

Jeremy Beadle - ok

Ian Kelsey (ex emmerdale) lovely

Carol decker (tpau) lovely

Rory McGrath - truly awful!!!

Dulra · 21/07/2017 11:49

Years ago in Dublin my brother came out of a club a bit worse for wear and bumped into Kevin Spacey. In his inebriated state my brother didn't cop who he was but recognised him so then engaged in a conversation with him about why he knew and asking him whether he worked here, went to such and such school and so on trying to place him. Kevin Spacey played along as my brothers mates were in hysterics behind him. Needless to say my brother has not lived that one down Grin

prettybird · 21/07/2017 12:19

Thinking of this a bit more

Alan Wells (Scottish Olympic gold medalist from the 1980 Olympics): ride to waiting staff at the hotel I was working in - although his wife was a nightmare much worse.

Dh met Tony Blair in a work context on a few occasions. Arrogant, unbriefed and totally plastic. Couldn't even be bothered to get the name of the projects he was there to take the credit for announce right Angry

Donald Dewar (in a similar context): courteous, well briefed and genuinely seemed to be interested in you and the projects/work involved Smile as opposed to looking around the room to see if there was anyone more "important" Hmm He was a real loss to Scottish (and UK) politics Sad

I've met Nicola Sturgeon on a number of occasions. She always seems to recognise me (wouldn't go as far as to say she remembers my name Wink) but always seems genuinely interested in you and that you are important.

Sir Chris Hoy was lovely to ds when they were both involved in a "One Year to Go to the Commonwealth Games" event.

In fact in general the elite cyclists (of all nationalities) are lovely and always have time for the young cyclists/fans. (Caveat: haven't come across Bradley Wiggins).

Ditto with the rugby players - or at least the Glasgow Warriors players.

Dougie Donnelly (Scottish TV commentator): involved in a road rage incident with dh. His reaction was quite shocking and I could never look at his "affable" demeanour in the same way afterwards.
