New thread so that we can await this afternoon's hearing at 1400 (UK time)

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Looks like that to me Gabs

GOSH lawyer questions if the parents should be at clinicians meeting. Concern the doctors might not be able to speak freely with them there.

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 14:37

I am wondering whether he should be made a ward of court now anyway.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:37

Thought they had a meeting this morning.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:37

lovely So that is the definitive outcome as GOSH have said

muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 14:38

I cannot belive they willnot let gosh measure his head??? then Ca get all hyped up about it blaming Gosh?????? it seems tome a lot of people are only getting told half a story.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:38

LovelyBath77 I think they mean the meaning with the NY bod.

OP posts:
GabsAlot · 14/07/2017 14:38

ffs

thy want to try an unknown treatmnt on him but wont let him hav a scan!?

sorry thats so wrong

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:38

Charlie's parents remain silent but shake their heads at this. Judge points out they have been involved at a v detailed level from start.

OP posts:
MoreProseccoNow · 14/07/2017 14:38

That's clearer now; it sounds like the parents have been declining investigations (on Charlie's behalf) which would demonstrate his deterioration.

The poor, poor staff at GOSH, having to deal with that in a daily basis. It would be making their jobs so much harder, not being able to assess him properly. And his parents essentially blocking his care? Unless I've got that wrong?

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 14:38

Thanks Facebook, another direct threat ignored

My concern is that the US scientist is in the middle of it now. My understanding is the whole case rides on what he says next week.

If he says it can cross the brain barrier and will reverse some of the brain damage and halt other I imagine they will have no choice but to let the treatment happen.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:38

Gollop QC: court would be best assisted by witnesses who are present. Judge: Hirano could give further evidence by video link.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:39

I did try and research the other children with the same mutation and didn't find much. But it is a form where die early in infancy. The other type live longer, and affects the muscles rather than the brain.

rabbitnothare · 14/07/2017 14:39

Unless we have got it wrong, I am reserving all my sympathy for GOSH and Charlie.

Figaro2017 · 14/07/2017 14:39

Can I ask a really ignorant question? I've sort of followed the case on the news but not very closely (I'm seriously ill myself and sort of shy away from medical stuff as I see too much of it in real time). What is this really about? Is it about a very sick little boy and what's best for him or is there something more driving the parents?

Lastly, what does CA stand for?

Sorry if the questions are intrusive or insensitive.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:39

@totally - It sounds that way

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:40

So the hospital are not allowed to give scans without express permission from the parents first?

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 14/07/2017 14:40

Should absolutely be made a ward of court now

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:40

Figaro he has an illness that cannot be cured. They are looking at what is in his interests. His parents saying the court shouldnt decide. They are his parents they should. Now apparently new treatment may reverse some of the damage he has.

OP posts:
muckypup73 · 14/07/2017 14:40

MoreProseccoNow and yet they hype Ca up with false information???? I find this highly infuriating.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:41

I thought they could just do scans without permission.

GabsAlot · 14/07/2017 14:41

lot of scptical tweets now about why parnts wont leet him have a scan

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:41

CA: Charlie's Army- group of 'supporters' of the family mainly on Facebook.

Yamayo · 14/07/2017 14:42

So the parents are playing ostrich- they are not allowing the staff to fully assess their child's condition so they can keep him alive indefinitely.
Surely a deadline must be imposed?
