New thread so that we can await this afternoon's hearing at 1400 (UK time)

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Can someone link to the sky live page please?

Thanks to all for all the updates and links etc.

BabsGanoush · 14/07/2017 12:22

Sorry just seen it above

Seeingadistance · 14/07/2017 12:22

I've just read the GOSH statement, which as pp said on the last thread, is well worth a read. Very clear and compassionate.

And, it also details the reason for this on-going situation.

*6. As to the disagreements, one ... . The other has been a more fundamental and unbridgeable divide of principle.

  1. Charlie’s parents fundamentally believe that they alone have the right to decide what treatment Charlie has and does not have. They do not believe that Great Ormond Street should have had the right to apply to the Court for an independent, objective decision to be made. They do not believe that there is any role for a Judge or a court. They believe that only they can and should speak for Charlie and they have said many times that they feel they have been stripped of their rights as parents.
  2. GOSH holds and is bound by different principles. A world where only parents speak and decide for children and where children have no separate identity or rights and no court to hear and protect them is far from the world in which GOSH treats its child patients.*

Place marking and being verrrry quiet Smile

Sirzy · 14/07/2017 12:24

To let parents have the ultimate say even when it would be detrimental to the child is a very dangerous precedent to follow.

I wonder how those who are so keen for parents words to be final feel about those parents who would refuse a transfusion for their child based on beliefs? Opposite end of the spectrum completely but if parents get final say no matter what one way then it has to work both ways surely?

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 12:26

Thanks cjt. Place marking.

Trampire · 14/07/2017 12:27

Thanks The Wee Witch. I've read now. I think it should be compulsory reading for anyone wanting to comment!

SimplyNigella · 14/07/2017 12:27

Sorry, clearly I didn't read the threads as closely as I though and I've misunderstood when the meeting was happening.

Venusflytwat · 14/07/2017 12:27

Right.
Let sense and mercy and law prevail.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 12:27

Would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in the meeting this morning. Does anyone know who exactly was involved?

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 12:28

Nigella I think they had a meeting this morning then the next hearing at 2pm this afternoon? I think...

3littlebadgers · 14/07/2017 12:28

Another one here, hoping that whatever happens today, a decision is made which will be in little Charlie's best interest, and one which in the years to come his parents will be able to look back on and feel at peace with.

Sostenueto · 14/07/2017 12:29

I don't think parents will get final say. Charlie has a court guardian. If they think that the original verdict is to be upheld and the patents won't accept it they will make charlie a ward of court in order to carry put court ruling. In law parents do not have parental rights over a child but parental responsibility which is very much different.

Sostenueto · 14/07/2017 12:30

Parents and out sorry about typos.

Sirzy · 14/07/2017 12:30

Sadly after the way things have played out I don't think the parents will ever be able to find peace now.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 12:31

I really don;t think all that media stuff hyping up the chances is at all helpful to the parents, regarding the reality of the situation.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 12:33

Just adding for info, other previous comment from MN on the first post.

*Hello folks. We appreciate that this is an ongoing news story that you, quite understandably, want to discuss- but we ask that you are also mindful that, regardless of your views on how this has been handled in the Press, there is a real life family involved here who are going through something truly awful. We've already had to delete several posts for being firmly not in the spirit of Mumsnet- and if it continues on this path, we may have to delete the whole thread.

Our Talk Guidelines are explained here if anyone is not familiar with them.*

Rachel0Greep · 14/07/2017 12:34

I agree that reading the GOSH statement is very helpful. I pity the parents from the bottom of my heart. I think that the likes of the CA Facebook page has not helped, in the slightest, tbh.

DeleteOrDecay · 14/07/2017 12:34

They're talking about this on loose women right now. Kay Adams is the only one talking any sort of sense.

JonSnowsWhore · 14/07/2017 12:37

Fucking Linda Robson who is supporting the campaign! Supporting it so much that she doesn't even know it's not a bloody operation that he needs!

Pandamanda3 · 14/07/2017 12:38

De-lurking have been following but not commenting as it's very fast and my typing skills are not ha!
The mind boggles as to how this is going to go today, I can't see them reaching an agreement but can see why it would be beneficial to try.
It's just so so sad, I just think of all the time they are loosing with there son in all this.
God love them and God love that poor boy.
Im praying for them to see sense and do what is right by him before the judge makes the desicion for him.
Great threads by the way iv learnt so much and understand so much more thanks to you guys x

Icallbullshit3 · 14/07/2017 12:41

Poor baby, and poor parents. It's so sad. I can't even comprehend having to make that decision. My heart actually hurts just thinking about it.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 14/07/2017 12:41

Linda Robson is an absolute idiot. That's made my blood boil. She shouldn't be allowed a platform to speak such nonsense.

LostGarden · 14/07/2017 12:42

@histinyhandsarefrozen I heard that too and was impressed. At first I thought "Here we go, religious bod about to go on about Drs not acting like God."

But it wasn't that at all. Worth a listen.

JustHangingAround · 14/07/2017 12:42

What are the protocols around sending GOSH PICU staff something - I had looked into a cupcake delivery from a bakery, but if you order today, it's delivery tomorrow and I thought that might be a bit insensitive if there is a ruling today leading to action tomorrow, for example.

Then I wasn't sure if they are even allowed to eat things delivered from the public. Maybe an email is better.
