New thread so that we can await this afternoon's hearing at 1400 (UK time)

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Didn;t he say at a previous hearing, after discussion about the extent of brain damage, it would be very unlikely to help. Maybe that is why he hasn't come over. But there is no new evidence the brain is any better, is there?

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:28

The judge says he would welcome any agreement between the parties but says Charlie must NOT be transferred without him being aware.

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 14/07/2017 14:28

I have no idea how you can determine whether there has been Brain damage, but this makes it sound that measuring with a tape measure seems to be the best anyone can do.

I imagine CA will be saying Connie's measurement should be taken tbh

Lightlovelife · 14/07/2017 14:28

I wondered too whether there has to be time between scans (I am not medical).
I still think the judge is making sure he covets all bases.
I suspect that C and C ( or their legal team)were politely told to make the statement re threats to medical staff.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:29

Gollop QC for GOSH: any further imaging would not be for therapeutic purposes. But MRI scan would allow more measurement of brain than tape.

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:29

I agree, but as he is there day and night should have been possible to fit in a scan

NerrSnerr · 14/07/2017 14:29

And while this happens Charlie remains on a ventilator. Poor boy.

LapinR0se · 14/07/2017 14:29

It sounds like the judge is backing down on the previous hard stance to me. I don't like the way this is going at all as previous firm decisions are being blown open again.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:30

Sounds like there may be the possibility of him moving Sad

SanFranBear · 14/07/2017 14:30

Next Friday Sad - I can't help but be heartbroken that this very very ill little baby is going to be kept alive by machines for another week.. with a decision as to next steps not likely until the week after.

I don't understand.. I thought the courts ruled last Friday would be his last day. Poor Charlie

stitchglitched · 14/07/2017 14:30

CA on twitter now ranting at making them wait until 24th july, conveniently forgetting that the parents lawyer originally wanted the hearing 25-27th july.

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:30

Judge: I can see that an MRI scan would be beneficial but I won't order it against the parents' wishes.

MMXV · 14/07/2017 14:30

The compassion that the medics and the lawyers have shown to Charlie Gard's parents is very heartening. They have been treated with kid gloves and some of the things they have done (abusing the judge; slandering and naming the doctors looking after Charlie; defying court orders not to discuss elements of Charlie's case in the public arena etc) would have landed anyone else in prison for contempt of court.

In the face of appalling provocation, the lawyers and doctors treating Charlie are accepting this outrageous abuse from his parents and CA as the acute psychological distress of grief-stricken parents rather than anything more sinister.

I hope very much hope that the money that has been raised for Charlie is given to Great Ormond Street Hospital. His entire care has been free of charge, as it ought to be (fuckwit Americans with their 'socialised medicine' ignorance should realise he would have died long ago in America because his parents wouldn't have been able to afford his care). His legal team and the Yates-Gard legal team are acting pro bono but GOSH's can't (or won't). It's cost GOSH way more than £2m to keep Charlie alive this long and to retain legal representation for their doctors in court, and as such it has deprived other profoundly sick children of resources.

Laura Gard and her ilk have behaved appallingly - very possibly criminally - and there are no safeguards in place over these donations from the public.

LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:30

Might lead to future cases similar being dragged through the courts

MirandaWest · 14/07/2017 14:31

How much control does go fund me have over how funds are spent?

Also those funds have only been there since April haven't they - they weren't there in January

0nline · 14/07/2017 14:31

The judge is only allowing the idenification of Mr Hirano because his name has been linked to #CharlieGard in the US

That's the name on the patent applications I found via google yesterday.

DarthMaiden · 14/07/2017 14:31

That sounds like his parents don't want him to have a scan???

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:32

I'd be questioning why not darth Because they fear pain? Or proof he is not growing?

OP posts:
Sirzy · 14/07/2017 14:32

So the parents are the ones stopping the accurate measurements being done then...

cjt110 · 14/07/2017 14:32

Gollop QC: same offer is open in respect of an EEG. We don't know whether Charlie is having seizures that can't be seen.

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 14/07/2017 14:32

I read the judge was previously in the family courts and worked with divorcing couples, so may be used to parents walking out in drama. He does seem to be very empathic

NannyOggsKnickers · 14/07/2017 14:32

Yes, why are his parents against an MRI to show brain growth?

Sostenueto · 14/07/2017 14:32

Oh yes the parents are getting their way all along. Am disappointed yet more delay. Well I shall be on a nice little holiday with family for a few days on.28th and am taking bets on the fact that this case will not be solved by the time I get back on the first. We are going to Snowdonia. We are going to the top, I'm going on the train and my family are walking up. I will have plenty of time for a few bevvies while I await themSmileWineGin

MirandaWest · 14/07/2017 14:33

I am worried about cases similar to this one being started in the future and the effect on the NHS

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 14/07/2017 14:33

That's a bit much if they don't want him to have a scan given the untested-on-humans- with- the- same- condition treatment we're in court discussing!
(or on mice, even)
