New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

Straighttalker, the complete denigration of GOSH, embracing those who would use this case to further pro life or anti NHS agendas and the turning a blind eye to threats of violence is where I have drawn my line too. I feel sad for what they are going through but that can't be used to defend the absolute shitstorm they've created.

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 14:11

straight Thank you. I assumed that was the case but didn't know. Someone has also pointed that out to the CA. Don't worry cjt

FreezerBird · 13/07/2017 14:11

If he has an ng tube or a peg/gastrostomy then 'oral' meds will go through that. My dd has all her meds via her gastrostomy but they're still sometimes referred to as 'oral' - presumably as opposed to IV.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 14:12

Judge tells Charlie’s parents he had been trying to find transcript of their evidence 3 months ago. Tells them they won’t be misquoted.

NikiBabe · 13/07/2017 14:13

You might take a trainee or NQ to scribe but it's highly unlikely there will be two senior associates/partners there to instruct counsel

You'd be surprised.

Cases like this very rarely happen and maybe the partner wanted to be there. High publicity etc.

Anyone know which firm represent them.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 14:13

i think theyd rathr he wasnt on pain meds at all

how sad just to prove a point

CA i mean

Yamayo · 13/07/2017 14:13

Beyond experience.... that is so sad

Maybeoneday77 · 13/07/2017 14:14

Thankyou all for your kind comments and support. Let's hope for the kind outcome for charlie today. Thanks for keeping us updated. I worry for GOSH and all their amazing staff.
My son used to scream as if he was being tortured when he had fits. The last 3 mths he lost so much energy that he couldn't cry or move or laugh but he still had silent fits. If there is any feeling or consciousness of any kind, it surely involves pain.

cjt110 · 13/07/2017 14:14

Thank you straighttalker Is it faster acting/more suited to a young child than venous mophine?

CalmItKermitt · 13/07/2017 14:14

Straighttalker - hear hear. Agree with every word.

Having a sick child doesn't mean you're a good person.

Ceto · 13/07/2017 14:14

Gobbolino, why are you obsessing about the solicitor issue? The solicitor does not have a "direct function" such that the hearing cannot continue without him or her. Surely that is obvious, and that is (obviously) all that I was saying.

Just for information, I am a solicitor specialising in litigation.

opinionatedfreak · 13/07/2017 14:15

CA (I paraphrase) "he can't be on oral morphine. He can't swallow. Gosh are liars"

How can people with such limited comprehension of the level of care he is getting (drugs will be given via Ng tube) think that the possibly have the level of understanding to process this case.

I despair.

The country is sick of experts...... And people will suffer as a result.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 14:15

Armstrong begins to question his first witness on a video link to New York. Also has an audio link to another witness elsewhere.

5achel · 13/07/2017 14:16

Sorry if it's been said but @skyFixerJim tweets seem more informative than rozenburg

ChocChipBitch · 13/07/2017 14:16

'Beyond experience' that is fucking awful. A tiny baby that is beyond experience, beyond every sensation the world has to offer, sat at my desk with tears in my eyes Sad it's just so wrong. That poor boy needs peace

muckypup73 · 13/07/2017 14:16

opinionatedfreak,i tis beyond believable.

straighttalker · 13/07/2017 14:16

You're right, stitchglitched, I forgot to add

  • the cynical adoption of religion and Christianity to further selfish ends
  • the welcoming of pernicious aspects of US evangelism to the UK
  • the fact they have permitted their dying son to be used to further Donald Trump's anti-socialist healthcare agenda.

Yes, I'll hold to what I said. No sympathy left for them. Endless amounts for the baby though. I'm very very sorry that no-one has yet done right by him, but people are trying.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/07/2017 14:16

The Judge is going to want to hear from this expert this afternoon what the chance/prognosis is of this possible treatment

No doubt - and Armstrong has already said it's now 50% rather than the originally claimed 10%

But what I'm wondering is how he can prove it since there have been no tests ... and if he can't, whether the judge will delay things yet again on the basis of little more than wishful thinking

opinionatedfreak · 13/07/2017 14:17

He will be on oromorph (which acts more slowly) as it removes the need to have an Iv line in. With the amihbt of time he has been in ICU I suspect IV access might not be straightforward any longer.

having a cannula sited definitely causes distress if you are capable of feeling distress

BishopBrennansArse · 13/07/2017 14:17

Whilst I disagree with the parents' stance on this (without criticism- they're parents doing what they believe is best at the end of the day) I can't understand them storming out of court.

If you're going to fight for something you need to be at that fight.

It's going to be hard - excruciating- to hear the legal arguments. But this is the most important hearing.

MillieMoodle · 13/07/2017 14:17

Can I just query something - the GOSH statement says that they didn't give him pain relief until recently because they thought he was beyond the experience of pain? I.e. So badly brain damaged that he couldn't even feel pain? But now they're saying that they're giving him morphine because they don't actually think he's beyond the experience of pain? Are GOSH saying they don't think he's as badly brain damaged as they said initially?

CaveMum · 13/07/2017 14:17

As someone pointed out on Twitter, if Charlie is not brain damaged (as the parents claim) then surely they have to accept he is in pain? Being ventilated isn't a picnic.

DarthMaiden · 13/07/2017 14:17

Catching up....

Shock at his parents storming out of court

Wonders if that was pre-meditated to show they don't acknowledge the authority and decision of the court?

5achel · 13/07/2017 14:18

So all this talk of pain is irrelevant then if he can't experience it?

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/07/2017 14:18

Catherine Glenn Foster is an American lawyer who came over with the 'pastor'. Ultra-right, anti-abortion and, like many others, has latched onto and appears to be manipulating those poor desperate parents for her own agenda.
