New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

Wouldn't a recent MRI show up what is happening?

MirandaWest · 13/07/2017 12:21

Someone on CA said "I wish GOSH didn't have to have a say and the judge just heard positives"

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 12:21

Constant on the Barmy:

who is this woman?
i think she's the GOSH lawyer
nah, she's something to do with Charlie's guardian
doesn't need a guardian, he has parents
parents know best

and then repeat the cycle, with people constantly saying that Butler-Cole is GOSH lawyer. These are supposed to be the Army, who have been following this case intently, watching and reading everything, but they don't even flipping know who is who and what they do.

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 12:22

Genius:

Atleast this judge seems to actually be listning to both parties, as other judge didnt really care about charlie. X

Followed by its the same judge

MrGrumpy01 · 13/07/2017 12:23

From the book of Proverbs

New International Version
In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines.

Seems very apt.

MidnightAura · 13/07/2017 12:24

How is everyone following this? On twitter?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/07/2017 12:24

As I mentioned before, if this is going to be dragged out on the basis of opinions it might never end (unless Charlie slips away on his own of course)

It's important to understand that in America doctors will try, use (and perhaps even say) almost anything, as long as someone's prepared to pay. The UK system is different, and since Charlie's a UK citizen I'd have thought that the judge would stick to what's required

In other words, evidence not opinion

TheWeeWitch · 13/07/2017 12:25

@nauticant

@SkyFixerJim is also tweeting to the Sky news feed, alongside Rozenberg's tweets.

Both are coated here -

cjt110 · 13/07/2017 12:26

Lets not give those morons at CA any further effort. They clearly do not care about what any evidence shows...

It reminds me of a man who was hunted down by locals who grafittiied his home. When asked by Jeremy Paxman why they had done this, one retorted "Well.... he's a paediatrician. We don't want him near our kids"

They thought the poor man was a paedophile and made his life hell. He was in fact a paedatrician.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 12:26

What happens next? Is it GOSH lawyers turn, or the video conference? Thanks.

TheWeeWitch · 13/07/2017 12:26

*collated

unweavedrainbow · 13/07/2017 12:27

@FoxyRoxy The fact that Charlie is a baby and so can't consent makes this so much more complex from than ethical point of view. The amount of benefit that he would potentially have to derive from an experimental treatment has to be that bit greater in order for it to be ethical to try the treatment at all, otherwise the worst case scenario is that Charlie has to endure, what is to him, pointless suffering for no good reason. I hope this makes sense.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 12:27

Yesterday many comments were delated by FB and people who made threats blocked, so reporting the group does seem to help make changes there.

LovelyBath77 · 13/07/2017 12:27

Sorry- on CA I mean.

dustmotesinthesun · 13/07/2017 12:28

I really hope this doesn't get dragged out too long.

I sent a message to GOSH via facebook. They sounded so grateful to have support. I really feel for the staff who are sitting on that ward today, monitoring Charlie, administering medications and generally comforting him. It must be a very tense atmosphere on that ward.

cjt110 · 13/07/2017 12:28

TheWeeWitch I;m following that too... nothing since medical evidence handed over 8m ago by Armstrong?

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2017 12:28

It seems that the evidence is being handed over to the judge and he is reading it cold.
The Mail Online has this quote:
"Mr Justice Francis also slammed 'public debate' about the 11-month-old's legal battle and said: 'Comments by people who know nothing about this case are unhelpful'."

blueskyinmarch · 13/07/2017 12:29

I am following it on Twitter. I don't do FB so I haven't previously seen the ranting of CA but I am seeing it now on the Twitter responses. They are seriously deluded if they think getting Charlie to the US means he will make a full recovery. The whole thing has just turned into a circus. Poor wee lad. Just let him go peacefully.

meddie · 13/07/2017 12:29

Lovelybath cerebral oedema is swelling off the brain inside the skull. This is not the issue, its different from swelling within the tissues of the body. They are actually talking about the measurement around the skull.
In the first two years of life a childs head grows at a fast right, this is because the growing brain pushes against the skull (this is why babies skull plates are not fused together to allow this to happen).
You would expect that growth to follow on along the centile chart. By taking regular measurements you could see if the baby was not growing as expected and this could indicate that there was an underlying problem with brain growth and development.
Its not a diagnostic test its just an indicator which would lead you to carry out further tests. As the patient grows the lack of skull growth becomes more obvious.
Its already common knowledge that Charlie has severe brain damage as he is unable to suck, swallow, cough or breathe so the skull measurement doesn't tell us anything apart from his brain is failing to grow. Its a very basic and crude measurement, but a useful indicator to alert you to investigate further

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 12:29

cjt* That's an urban myth.

stitchglitched · 13/07/2017 12:30

The sky feed is a bit more detailed than Rozenberg's tweets. Such as when Butler Cole said Armstrong performing for the press the parents murmured angrily and the Judge said she had a good point.

cjt110 · 13/07/2017 12:31

Shatners Really? Blush consider me told but it's definitely the same mentality - even if a load of tosh. Sorry Blush

MrsKwazii · 13/07/2017 12:31

I know that a link to the McDonald's houses has already been posted to support them. I'd like to add one to the Sick Children's Trust which also runs free home from home accommodation at hospitals across the country, including at GOSH: www.sickchildrenstrust.org/our_houses/index.html They do an amazing job supporting families with children in NICU and PICU to stay by their child's side.

nauticant · 13/07/2017 12:32
