New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

Maybe GOSH have supplied the skull/head measurements in their evidence to the court but not provided it to the parents and their lawyers?

WeDoNotSow · 13/07/2017 12:01

I think the judge is demanding his head is measured by an independent party

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 12:01

arguing with somone on twitter ca facebook are very considrate of spiteful posts

i nearly spat my drink out

nauticant · 13/07/2017 12:01

This sounds like a sorry farce.

Sadly, yes. The head measurement thing for example. An unsupported assertion "a growing head" has turned into a key fact when I doubt either way it proves anything. However, it's been latched onto because unlike just about everything else it is concrete, albeit potentially meaningless.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 12:01

Judge: question raised by letter I have just read is whether Charlie’s brain damage is irreversible.

TheWeeWitch · 13/07/2017 12:02

I'm sure GOSH have head measurements! They would be as incompetent as CA say they are to have not prepared for this question.

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 12:02

nauticant, agree, this has been promoted as important when I wonder if it is relevant at all.

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 13/07/2017 12:03

Sorry to gatecrash, but I followed the link about the Ronald McDonald houses wish list and it doesn'5 give you an address to send to. Would you just google it or am I missing something?

Ceto · 13/07/2017 12:03

They should get Charlie's assigned Health visitor to dl the measurements

Can the idiots really not work out that this isn't a matter of someone running a tape measure around it? It is clearly skull measurements that are needed.

EB123 · 13/07/2017 12:03

I do worry how some members of CA manage to get through life, they seem to be very naive.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 13/07/2017 12:04

rabbit whether it's relevant or not is a bit beside the point, the judge asked for it so it should be provided. I can only assume as someone said above that it is in their written evidence as it seems such a basic error otherwise.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 12:04

th doctors letter is all lies apprntly

even though noone know whats in it

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 12:04
Hmm
stitchglitched · 13/07/2017 12:05

I think it is best that an independent party measures the head. At this stage GOSH are accused of lying no matter what.

sodablackcurrant · 13/07/2017 12:06

The hospital will have updates on every facet of the child's current status.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 12:06

Replying to @JoshuaRozenberg

Even if it's damaged... So? Many live with brain damage

hlp

Laiste · 13/07/2017 12:06

Surely the correct wording is 'skull' measurement. Obtained by a scan - not a darn tape measure! Confused

Oogle · 13/07/2017 12:06

I'm wondering if GOSH QC will say something along the lines of "measuring Charlie's head is futile due to the swelling caused by oedema, this is why we have not submitted measurements"

Or something to that effect.

This whole case is incredibly sad and the crowing on CA is making me bloody angry. Why on earth would GOSH want to "kill" a baby? Sad

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 12:06

Victoria Butler-Cole for Charlie’s guardian rises to challenge Armstrong’s accuracy. Says his comments are being made for benefit of press.

Sirzy · 13/07/2017 12:06

When ds was on life support he very quickly became very swollen/puffy all over. When he was thankfully well enough to come of it he settled back down quickly. Photos certainly don't provide proof of any growth in a situation like this.

Actually I would have thought the only accurate way to show it would be subjecting him to more scans?

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 12:07

Butler-Cole has got the measure of Armstrong now, says it is for the benefit of press.

stitchglitched · 13/07/2017 12:07

I think the letter he was reading was feom the parents side. But they just see the word doctor so 'its all lies'.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 13/07/2017 12:07

Tbf, littlebrown, there's some of that on this thread too.

The drug development and clinical trials process is different for rare diseases for which there is no known treatment already. It has to be or nothing would ever be developed for them.

GOSH applied for the approval to treat Charlie before he deteriorated on the same level of evidence, if not less.

I think Armstrong is quite right to point this out, but his case will depend on either proving that nucleoside bypass can repair neurological damage caused by mitochondrial depletion of that a whole host of world leading doctors from a number of countries have somehow managed to misinterpret MRIs and brain scans. Both of which seem massively unlikely.

ShatnersWig · 13/07/2017 12:07

The Barmy are already gearing up for "that vile gollop woman I hate her" followed by cries of "so do i"

That's one of the worst aspects to all this. 99% of the vile comments aimed at GOSH staff and those on the other side of the coin are all coming from other women. There are literally only a couple of men on the CA page (at least who ever speak).

meddie · 13/07/2017 12:07

Skull measurement is only one indication that would point to lack of brain growth and development and its a crude measure and yes its done with a tape measure, it would need to be taken in consideration with EEG,s scans and the actual clinical picture (ie how the patient is behaving)
