New thread so that we can await this morning's hearing.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 5 threads have been.

Fingers crossed that this can all be resolved today and that Charlie and his parents can find peace.

I can't quite believe that given how much of this seems to be based on head circumference, no measurements have been taken since Monday.

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 13/07/2017 11:51

That makes sense puzzled wouldn't want to second guess what they have done and why. Just that it's the sort of thing that sticks out and gets grabbed on.

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 11:51

Didn't realise that GOSH not been on yet, going to follow twitter for a bit.

FoxyRoxy · 13/07/2017 11:52

littlebrownbag

Yes, especially when the patient is unable to consent to being a human guinea pig. Surely you cannot volunteer someone to have a previously untested treatment?

pasanda · 13/07/2017 11:52

Barmy - They should get Charlie's assigned Health visitor to dl the measurements

That'll sort it!!!

nauticant · 13/07/2017 11:52

This case illustrates one weakness of the adversarial system of law. In the inquisitorial system you'd probably have a handful of experts appointed by the court who would feel free to speak from their own expertise rather than their own side and there'd be less of lawyers paraphrasing in a "sexed up" form what experts had said to support their own case.

ExpatinBah · 13/07/2017 11:53

Live : The judge has said that 'unlikely to be concluded today'. An American doctor is giving evidence at 2pm (UK time)

TheWeeWitch · 13/07/2017 11:53

Ok. It's now the head circumference thing.

I've noticed in the recent photos of Charlie that his forehead seems distorted, kind of indented, and that the lower part of his face seems swollen compared to the rear of his head. Wondering if there is significance in this? Fully aware that this is pure armchair speculation.

smilingmind · 13/07/2017 11:54

They told Connie she should take his red book to court

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 11:54

Very long pause now between tweets

Sirzy · 13/07/2017 11:55

Ahh yes the red book will solve everything does anyone actually fill these things in?

meddie · 13/07/2017 11:55

The WeeWitch it could be developing microcephaly. If a brain is not growing and developing then there is no external force on the skull to grow. The fact that his head circumference would be falling off the centile chart would be indicative that there is failure of brain growth and development

HouseOfMouse · 13/07/2017 11:55

I agree with whoever (above) said that the parent's counsel doesn't have much to go on. What he is saying doesn't seem to amount to the evidence that the judge will need if he is to overturn his previous decision (and those of the higher courts). Only fair that the "evidence" is heard, via video-link or whatever, but it is already sounding dubious. Also, Connie would not have been able to measure skull growth (which is the relevant measure for determining brain damage), only head circumference.

darbyshaw · 13/07/2017 11:56

Of course, the red book would solve everything! Why didn't anyone think of this before?!

CA really are devoid of any intelligence aren't they? A more stupid group of fools you would be hard pushed to find.

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 11:56

Actually I think that if GOSH had provided the head circumference , it would have been submitted with the evidence wouldn't it and the judge wouldn't have made an order for it to be supplied by tomorrow.

GabsAlot · 13/07/2017 11:56

but why is th judge insisting o a tape measurement?

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 11:57

They hold the red book in high esteem.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 13/07/2017 11:57

Watching. Armstrong is getting on my tits. I know he's doing his job but he sounds like a child coming put with any old crap that just cannot be substantiated. I'd be quite shocked if Charlie's head hasn't been measured after Monday's hearing (and Connie doing it does not count).

meddie · 13/07/2017 11:57

If Charlie is oedematous then the measurement would not be accurate anyway. Swelling of tissues due to fluid does not equal skull growth

FlyingElbows · 13/07/2017 11:57

I don't know whether to shake my head in disbelief at people who think health visitors, the red book and calpol are the entire extent of paediatric medicine, or just be really pleased for them that their experience is so limited. They are beyond unhelpful even if well intentioned.

nina2b · 13/07/2017 11:58

This sounds like a sorry farce.

pasanda · 13/07/2017 11:58

They are positively glowing over on the CA FB page. They seem to think that it is going very positively for them and the fact that GOSH haven't provided a head circumference is because they are liars and are hiding something.

Does anyone know whether, if GOSH have done this measurement, it can't be told until it is 'their' turn in court later today. Or whether the judge can order this measurement this morning?

TheWeeWitch · 13/07/2017 11:58

This is what I'm taking about in my last post - his head shape looks odd to me, but my own babies have both had weird shaped heads too, so I'm probably running a tangent on this one.

rabbitnothare · 13/07/2017 11:59

pasanda I thought that evidence has to be given ahead to the judge but I am not a legal person, maybe someone else will confirm.

LapinR0se · 13/07/2017 12:00

Charlie Gard: judge is now reading through a letter from doctors. Press have no access to the written evidence at the moment.
