DH has told me I should back away from this as I'm postnatal and it's affecting my own frame of mind. I can't get the image of that swollen-bodied desperately ill little boy out of my head.

Screams of "If he's fighting, we're fighting!" are making me feel sick.
He isn't fighting. He can't fight anymore. The fact he's on permanent Life Support undeniably proves that his body is fighting to die. And they won't let him.

He is a shell. And I try to keep it in my mind that they are grieving parents, who just want that last chance, but at what cost?

Charlie is existing in a kind of purgatory at the moment while the people fight about what's right or wrong. What about him?
When did we start letting parental emotions dictate legal and ethical decisions?

CaveMum · 10/07/2017 15:05

Soda if he went into multiple organ failure he may well die. His appearance suggests his kidney's are already failing.

Ceto · 10/07/2017 15:05

Did Connie say this morning that her lawyers had the new evidence before the earlier hearing but didn't use it? If so, I suspect they won't be impressed and indeed may reach a point when they can't represent the parents any more, because in effect it's an allegation that they were seriously negligent.

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 10/07/2017 15:05

CA on Facebook are baffled that Armstrong just said parents haven't made that claim.

Demonstrably not true.

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 15:06

Hi all - thanks to the link to the new thread.

fruitlovingmonkey · 10/07/2017 15:06

That poor baby. The parents have completely lost sight of his interests. Horrible behaviour.

cjt110 · 10/07/2017 15:06

I cannot imagine the heartache his parents are going through but this feels like a tug of war over a prized teddybear

Nquartz · 10/07/2017 15:07

LogicalPsycho not to the same extent, but this is really upsetting me too, I need to stop reading the thread before bed because it's affecting my dreams.

Alittlepotofrosie · 10/07/2017 15:07

Shes said it more than once for fucks sake. I imagine that they will have to question each expert and court processes can take a long time.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 15:07

She absolutely did make that claim yes.

Nquartz · 10/07/2017 15:08

LogicalPsycho also Flowers for you

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 15:09

She said it this morning on the Today programme!!!!

meddie · 10/07/2017 15:09

yes Soda children can die on a ventilator. Either from catching an infection that overwhelms them or if their other organs start to fail or of lung failure.
Ventilation is unnatural. We breathe by creating a negative pressure within our chests which sucks air in. Ventilation works by forcing air into the lungs (positive pressure) the very act of doing this can cause damage to the lung tissue (its called barotrauma) .
Ventilated children are prone to chest infections due to the fact the tube goes directly into the lungs and you have to artificially suck secretions out that a well person would cough up). Every infection causes more damage and can often mean ventilator pressures have to be increased to effectively oxygenate the patient. This in turn causes more barotrauma and a vicious cycle. But this is a slow process and not a particularly nice way to die.

GOSH Qc has started.

ChristopherWren · 10/07/2017 15:09

This is very sad - that poor little boy. I'm struggling with what we seem to have become in this country.

Stopnamechanging · 10/07/2017 15:10

LogicalPsycho, you are lovely, I find myself agreeing with you on lots of threads.

I hope you are okay.

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 15:10

Re the 10% thing.

This is where the things the parents have said in the media will come out as not true. As it is one thing saying it on the radio and another your legal representation having to say it in court.

This is when I imagine sticking to the facts have the judge a clear response in the last case. Yet it has all been so muddied on social media fact and fiction have merged

milliemolliemou · 10/07/2017 15:11

Heard his mother on R4 this morning. I can understand why she's fighting but she said she had "no evidence" that he was brain-damaged. As previous articles I believe have said, MRI scans don't necessarily show damage where ECG indicate. How is the child going to get to US hospitals for treatment or can they use the million they've raised to bring one of the doctors over sooner rather than later? If the poor baby dies between now and a decision and any treatment then I suspect GOSH will be sued. Any idea on how much GOSH has already had to spend?

alpacasandwich · 10/07/2017 15:12

GOSH are essentially nursing a dead baby in their ITU while the parents are on TV. Horrid.

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 15:12

GOSH representative now up

Charlie Gard Case 3
cjt110 · 10/07/2017 15:12

meddie That's almost how a friend's father died. Went into A&E with a chest infection, sedated, ventilated and the ventilator caused so much damage he passed away :(

LogicalPsycho · 10/07/2017 15:12

I half wish that GOSH would just acquiesce and say "Fine. Take him" and sever all contact and care of Charlie Gard.

I feel for the families of the desperately ill children in GOSH that have to read this every day, and then spend their time in wards with fucking Featureworld photographers popping in and out for the next scoop.

I feel for the hardworking, dedicated Doctors, Nurses, HCPs, Auxiliaries and everyone who works together at GOSH to keep Charlie as comfortable as possible, against a tirade of constant vicious abuse. They are only human, and have to return home every night to see this play out in the media, have their profession and reputations vilified, and then get up in the morning and head straight back to give Charlie their care, and his parents their unwavering support.
I salute them.

Maudlinmaud · 10/07/2017 15:13

Logical Flowers
I'm lurching from one emotion to another. Angry at what is happening to a tiny bit of hope for Charlie. But mainly confusion. This seems cold and callous.

cjt110 · 10/07/2017 15:14

Hear Hear LogicalPsycho I agree with all of that last post.

DarthMaiden · 10/07/2017 15:15

The issue with that logical is that it sets a very danger precedent whereby media involvement overrules the law.

Equally if GOSH allowed him to go the US having argued it's not in his best interests, they are then party to action that would cause him harm.
