The judge sounds open minded. I think Charlie will get this treatment after all. I'm not sure how I feel about that possibility.

Judge: can you reverse profound structural brain damage? Armstrong: that depends on whether it will improve muscles, permit normal breathing

LapinR0se · 10/07/2017 14:36

I think this is definitely heading in favour of Charlie getting treatment BUT we have not heard from his doctor's or anyone at GOSH yet (will we?)

ShatnersWig · 10/07/2017 14:36

Maudlin Of course the judge sounds open minded! That's what they have to be as a matter of course! In every single trial they preside over. He has said nothing that can be inferred either way yet and probably won't until the judgement later in the week.

LapinR0se · 10/07/2017 14:37

Doctor*. I did not add an apostrophe or an s, thank you Apple autocorrect

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 10/07/2017 14:38

Head not growing which parents won't accept

Judge asks again whether structural brain damage can be undone. Says Charlie’s head is not growing. Armstrong: parents don’t accept that.

Surely that is easy enough to prove/disprove?

LapinR0se · 10/07/2017 14:39

There will be no evidence heard today.

DubiousCredentials · 10/07/2017 14:39

How can you dispute if something is growing or not? Confused

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 10/07/2017 14:40

On the subject of the judge, when this new hearing was announced last week one of CA posted :"oh I hope the judge thinks with his heart this time, not his head". YCMIU...

sodablackcurrant · 10/07/2017 14:40

AFAIK Great O St. brought this case re the new treatment. They appear to have done this to ensure that EVERY avenue has been explored, no ifs, buts or maybes.

They are quite rightly protecting themselves. They don't agree that it will have any effect on the little child, but the judge must decide.

I reckon that of course GOSH will have to testify. They just haven't yet. (I'm not able to watch so someone might tell me whose testimony the judge has commented on, thanks.)

LogicalPsycho · 10/07/2017 14:41

Thanks Lapin I'm following him now.

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 14:41

From that it sounds like this is just the part where they request the hearing? I am now trying to be open minded and think ok what do the parents know that we haven't been told.

So at least a week of this as evidence will be heard then a further gap until the Judgement.

brexitstolemyfuture · 10/07/2017 14:41

No evidence today? So no hope of a conclusion today then? It needs to just be over ASAP

CaveMum · 10/07/2017 14:42

Thanks for new thread.

Shame we won't have an outcome today. How much longer must the poor boy be kept in this misery?

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 10/07/2017 14:42

"there is a significant difference between the experts".
Does anyone know why this new information has only just come to light? Is it simply because they have really only just heard about Charlie's situation?

LapinR0se · 10/07/2017 14:43

They're asking for a different judge now...

AndHoldTheBun · 10/07/2017 14:44

I imagine they see Charlie's head/face apparently growing as his oedema worsens (as it seems to have worsened in the most recent photos), but that not the same a his skull circumference increasing as you would typically expect it to do rapidly in a baby/toddler Sad
I imagine medical staff regularly weigh and measure him as part of assessing how he's progressing.

CaveMum · 10/07/2017 14:45

They're asking for a new judge?!

Ratbagcatbag · 10/07/2017 14:45

I'm not watching as at work. I just feel desperately sad about the whole thing. His parents asked for time to say goodbye and instead whipped it all up further.
Who is asking for a different judge Lapin? (If you don't mind) 🙂

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/07/2017 14:46

Does anyone know whatt the reporting restrictions referred to are?

LovelyBath77 · 10/07/2017 14:46

I think this should be helpful to GOSH, if they confirm the decision the hospital can't go against that, if they allow moving him also that means it will be out of their hands.

Just seen the tweet asking for a new judge.

totallyliterally · 10/07/2017 14:46

@Ratbagcatbag the parents are asking for a different judge as he said before treatment was futile.
