Charlie Gard case

AIBU to feel the drama over this poor little boy is not helpful? I read the Pope and Donald Trump were suggesting they help- when several courts have agreed it is in his best interests to let the little boy die with dignity. I feel sorry for him as he may be in pain and it is unfair to add further to false hope for the parents as well. I also feel that many, many people has awful situations where babies die, sadly, for example stillbirths and other cases which are just un-heard and un-noticed and people have to deal with it, so why is there such a huge focus here.

Well said, Darth.

User843022 · 07/07/2017 15:28

' that's a silly response as the whole thread is about the threats to GOSH etc, so to participate, you will have looked at the page, otherwise you can't really can you?'
A 'silly' response? I don't need to go on fb to know about the case and people's responses Confused.

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 15:30

Any news from the pro life pastor? I wonder how his fund is doing?

User843022 · 07/07/2017 15:31

'Sadly, I expect this thread to be deleted if it descends into a bunfight, which is exactly what some are trying to provoke'
No I'm not trying to provoke a 'bunfight'. Just stop and think when you say awful things about people, you are just as bad as the 'mob' you are criticising.

ShatnersWig · 07/07/2017 15:32

Myrtle No, indigo is a fool for earlier on the thread using words like vegetables to describe seriously ill people, suggesting we are all praying for his death, that none of us know what we are talking about when some of us have read the entire court transcripts, and others of us actually have experience of GOSH, have had terminally ill children, or are doctors and nurses

TheWeeWitch · 07/07/2017 15:32

@DarthMaiden superb; measured and articulate. Thank you.

mydogisthebest · 07/07/2017 15:32

Indigo, I take it you are one of the barmy army lot. Who exactly is "praying" for Charlie to die? I have not seen one single post with that sort of remark in it.

I am praying for Charlie to be released from his suffering from an illness which there is no cure for

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 15:34

Ignore them, they have no concern for anything other than causing trouble.

Let's continue our support for GOSH, the medics and staff and hope for Charlie to be comfortable.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 07/07/2017 15:37

Hello folks. We appreciate that this is an ongoing news story that you, quite understandably, want to discuss- but we ask that you are also mindful that, regardless of your views on how this has been handled in the Press, there is a real life family involved here who are going through something truly awful. We've already had to delete several posts for being firmly not in the spirit of Mumsnet- and if it continues on this path, we may have to delete the whole thread.

Our Talk Guidelines are explained here if anyone is not familiar with them.

'Ignore them, they have no concern for anything other than causing trouble'
Ignore who, me? or CA on fb Confused

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 15:40

Please, don't respond to them, this is what they want, to get the thread deleted. We must be able to debate this with intelligent people, mumsnet is full of educated and thoughtful posters.

Don't engage with them anymore.

Alittlepotofrosie · 07/07/2017 15:41

I'm not comfortable with the suggestion, which has been repeated more than once over various threads that charlie is blocking a bed and that another child might need it. While he's alive his life has value. He's not taking up a bed, he's a sick child being cared for in a hospital and bed numbers should never be a factor in deciding when to let him go.

JaneEyre70 · 07/07/2017 15:42

I really am struggling today to understand why GOSH aren't doing what the courts decided was best for Charlie. His parents have used this last week for everything other than acceptance and saying goodbye. GOSH initially went to court in April saying that Charlie was suffering, we are now in July and from that gut wrenching photo Charlie is now suffering even more now and his organs are failing. How can this all be in his best interests? It's just appalling behvaiour now from both sides Sad.

User843022 · 07/07/2017 15:42

'she doesn't know the difference between their and they're and/or your and you're for a start, so I'd say she's a fool'
Lovely. A grammar pedant just whats needed here.

'Are you one of these barmy army people protesting outside the hospital about a case you know nothing about? You sound like it.'

No. I can see both sides. I just don't like mud slinging from anyone whichever 'side' you are on.

JaneEyre70 · 07/07/2017 15:43

behaviour

53rdWay · 07/07/2017 15:45

Agreed Alittlepotofrosie.

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 15:46

Alittlepotofrosie it won't be a consideration at all, certainly it never was when I worked in a London HDU.

The uncomfortable fact that is that there will be other babies and children who need an ITU bed, they have either not had surgery or procedures due to no beds or have been cared for elsewhere.

That is true, it definitely will not have been a factor in the discussions though, neither will money have been.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 07/07/2017 15:47

Apparently the pastor has a meeting with Charlie's parents at 5pm.

indigop · 07/07/2017 15:47

I'm dyslexic I can't spell well . but thanks for calling me an Idiot . I don't care what you think of me , my friends son recently had surgery at GOSH I'm aware of the amazing work they do . A family member worked there for a while but that doesn't mean I do not feel for those poor parents and the poor little soul- I'm not part of the mob I haven't actually told you my opinion on charlie because I don't think it's right or relevant. I posted out of disgust for those slagging those devoted loving parents and my thoughts remain with them .

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 07/07/2017 15:49

Wonder if the pastor can make them see what most of us here see

I doubt it though

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 15:51

He is apparently coming to run the social media campaign and take over the interviews etc.

He met with Trump about it earlier in the week.

mydogisthebest · 07/07/2017 15:52

JaneEyre, I am wondering that too. The thing is that GOSH cannot go the newspapers or on tv or post on facebook so we don't know the reasoning.

They said last Friday that the parents had asked for extra time to say their goodbyes and I assumed that probably meant the weekend. Here we are a week later though and the hysteria is ridiculous.

I am sure GOSH have good reasons for not taking Charlie off of life support but it is hard to see what they are.

As you say, the photo of him is heartbreaking. I just keep hoping that he is not in pain

Inkanta · 07/07/2017 15:53

I am not comfortable either with the posts criticising the parents.
