AIBU to feel the drama over this poor little boy is not helpful? I read the Pope and Donald Trump were suggesting they help- when several courts have agreed it is in his best interests to let the little boy die with dignity. I feel sorry for him as he may be in pain and it is unfair to add further to false hope for the parents as well. I also feel that many, many people has awful situations where babies die, sadly, for example stillbirths and other cases which are just un-heard and un-noticed and people have to deal with it, so why is there such a huge focus here.

There is a new gofundme for Patrick Mahoney to pay for him to be in London from the US to co ordinate the campaign.

He is a pro life pastor, if you search in FB it will bring up his latest video as he arrives here.

Yes there seems to be an unsavoury mix with the US intervention of political point scoring as Obamacare is dismantled, anti abortion lobbyists and doctors out for a buck.

LogicalPsycho · 07/07/2017 14:15

Is there any particular reason the parents haven't paid for this?

On their merchandise site it says "All funds go to Charlie's fight" just above their bank details.

So...pay for these people to fight for Charlie. That's what the money is for.

LogicalPsycho · 07/07/2017 14:18

www.gofundme.com/help-us-save-charlie-gard

The new GoFundMe is asking for another £5000 from the gullible public.
I know that's a lot of money in one go, but I'm sure the parents could manage this and have enough spare left over.

JessicaEccles · 07/07/2017 14:18

This is becoming like that film 'Ace in the Hole' Sad. It's just horrible.

muckypup73 · 07/07/2017 14:19

This is really starting to stink.

totallyliterally · 07/07/2017 14:20

A pro life pastor coming here is just what this needs. Jesus Christ. Poor baby boy :(

Sky news article quoting Connie saying he isn't suffering or in pain, I wouldn't let that happen.

The whole this is way out of control.

MissEliza · 07/07/2017 14:20

Oh god the Terry Schiavo case. The Charlie case is becoming like but I couldn't remember the woman's name. That went on for years.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 07/07/2017 14:22

I said a few days ago, not sure if it was on this thread, that this circus is getting worse every day that passes. Just when I think its reached its peak, something new happens.
There's no dignity left in this situation. It's just horrible. Poor Charlie.

MsHooliesCardigan · 07/07/2017 14:23

Logical Exactly, can't the parents pay for this out of the £2m? Whilst I still have some sympathy for the parents, I no longer have any respect for them. This is beginning to leave a very nasty taste in my mouth.

goodbyestranger · 07/07/2017 14:23

At some point soon surely some another extremely ill child will need the ICU bed - won't that force the doctors hand to tell the parents enough is enough? I thought the beds were in huge demand.

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 14:26

The beds are in huge demand, they can't just move him out though.

This pastor disgusts me

MissEliza · 07/07/2017 14:35

So this GoFundMe appeal is for some fundamentalist Christians from America to fly over and add to the circus? FFS.

mydogisthebest · 07/07/2017 14:36

I've just looked at that pastor's facebook page - I feel sick and angry

Stopnamechanging · 07/07/2017 14:38

They are already here, this is just ridiculous.

Ellie56 · 07/07/2017 14:40

Words fail me.

MirandaWest · 07/07/2017 14:41

Had a look on the CA Facebook page and there's going to be a meeting with GOSH staff and the parents later on with a letter signed by the 5 doctors who believe there's a 10% chance treatment could work.

Not sure what I think about this really. I find it all very sad but despite the logical and rational part of me believing there's nothing more can be done, there's something like this latest development and I find myself wondering.

Maudlinmaud · 07/07/2017 14:43

Apply enough pressure.
Shout loud enough.
Release emotionally charged images and videos.
Get as much high profile attention as you can.
Overturn the rulings.
Ignore medical advice.
Seems to be working.

SerfTerf · 07/07/2017 14:46

I can't help being impressed by Connie Yates. I think she's wrong but she's formidable.

Pomegranatepompom · 07/07/2017 14:52

It's basically bullying.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 07/07/2017 14:52

The issue is allowing a young child to suffer and receive constant painful, invasive care that achieves nothing for him except to forcibly stretch the process of dying out as long as possible - but makes a whole lot of adults feel better they haven't had to make a tough decision. How can that be considered ethical

I asked a medical question. Nothing else.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 07/07/2017 14:54

Is it possible that Charlie could die of natural causes before Drs switch of his life support?*

I don't pretend any medical knowledge, but I'm pretty sure one of the court judgements mentioned that Charlie's in the terminal phase of the disease

If this is correct, it obviously follows that he could well pass "on his own" before life support is removed - though probably that would depend on how long this is dragged out for

Thank you.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 07/07/2017 14:55

I'm annoyed at whoever reported my comment. I have an idea though.

I can't obviously repeat it but I stand by it. Why is it ok for the parents to slag off the hospital that is caring for their son, their "army" has personally slagged me off on another site and told me that I clearly wish my daughter dead, because according to them after her transplant she lives a normal healthy life with no health issues whatsoever Hmm I think I am entitled to call them selfish all I like.

EB123 · 07/07/2017 14:59

I just saw the latest photo, he looks so bloated. How can anything think that he looks like a thriving baby? Poor little lamb. I really hope he is allowed to pass peacefully soon and not become an experiment.
