AIBU?

To ask how often you do laundry?

I've been looking online for a suggested housework schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) and was surprised to see laundry listed as a weekly task in many!

There's only two of us, and what with clothes, underwear, exercise clothes, towels, bedding, etc., if I don't do laundry every day, it starts piling up.

I don't have a dryer and have limited airing space so can't do more than one load a day - do others just do several loads on a designated day?

All. The. Fucking. Time.

Cleanermaidcook · 04/07/2017 21:27

Family of 4.
We get the free gas + electric from british gas on sundays so do most of it then and another couple of loads in the week.

pudding24 · 04/07/2017 21:27

Passthecake I know what you mean, there's only 2 of us, DH wears an outfit for several days, so it's just my stuff! I'm constantly cold so I'm always usually wearing a woolly jumper or cardigan, then I exercise on 4-5 days so that all needs washing too... plus the towels! Blush

Indo about 6 loads a week. There are three of us (including 5 yr old). Im very fussy about mixing loads as i like to keep clothes in good nick.

theconstantinoplegardener · 04/07/2017 21:29

Family of five here and I do at least one wash a day, if not two. School uniforms, other clothes, towels, bedding, bathmats and hand towels...I never see the bottom of our laundry hamper.

AfraidOfMyShadow · 04/07/2017 21:30

It feels like it's all the time!

With just DH and myself it was 1-2 times a week. But now it is every other day and it still builds up. I like to economise and group clothing together before washing. I feel DSS changes clothes every hour.

Family of 4 (plus dog partial to rolling in fox shit) and I wash most days. I hate it building up in the laundry baskets, though, so will chuck a load on before bed and peg it out in the morning before work. It means I'm not overloaded with rugby, football, cricket and judo kits at the weekend.

I'm a bit weird with towels and wash them often. Bedding gets done weekly, too, because everyone's a bit sweaty at this time of year and the DCs are filthy hobgoblins.

gabsdot · 04/07/2017 21:30

Family of 4 here,
The kids do one load each per week of their own clothes
I do about 4 other loads during the week of mine and DHs clothes, bedding towels etc.
My washing machine has an extra big drum so It fits loads in.

VanillaSugar · 04/07/2017 21:31

Every. bLoody. Day.

Salzundessig · 04/07/2017 21:32

2 adults, 2 children in nappies. I do 2-3 clothes washes, 2-3 nappy washes a week and one bedding/towels a fortnight.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 04/07/2017 21:35

Just 2 of us and I do at least one load a day.
We both wear uniforms to work and work in germ riddled dirty places so daily uniform shirts and undies and DH gym stuff get done every day.
Non work stuff doesn't get washed with work stuff and towels and bedding get done seperately too.
That's if I'm doing the laundry, if it's done by DH there's a jumble of stuff rammed in the machine and nothing gets washed properly.

Millybingbong · 04/07/2017 21:37

i do 3-5 loads on a sunday night/monday and no more the rest of the week.

ElleDubloo · 04/07/2017 21:39

Family of 4 here, and it varies. I prefer to let it pile up and then do a couple of loads on a sunny day so that it can dry outside. Perhaps once every 2 days on average?

RoseVase2010 · 04/07/2017 21:39

Three or four days a week for two adults and a toddler. One's a tradesman so wears clean clothes every day, I'm just a messy eater and the child is two and always ends up a bit sticky no matter what happens. Plus h.orse riding clothes

LondonSouth28 · 04/07/2017 21:39

I enjoy a brief and fleeting moment each week where my washing machine and dryer are not on. It is a brief and fleeting moment - so brief, incredibly brief, depressingly brief...

ShangriLaLaLa · 04/07/2017 21:40

Multiple washes most days. I'd hoped as the DC grew up, it would ease off but teenage DD creates by far the most 😩 I don't see me conquering the laundry mountain anytime soon.

megletthesecond · 04/07/2017 21:41

Twice a day. Me and 2 dc's.

I can't let gym, mucky garden or running kit fester so that has to be done on the day. Once add in uniform, work clothes, towels etc it's easier to do a couple of loads a day and keep on top of it.

In fact I've done three loads today. Pinks and reds, darks (uniform and work) and swimming kit.

DonaldStott · 04/07/2017 21:42

About 3 loads over a saturday/sunday.

Pinkponiesrock · 04/07/2017 21:43

I think I do 2 loads a day every fucking day!
None of my children can manage to come home in a school uniform that can be worn again plus they all have clubs and sports every day that require various kits. DH and I both run and I ride so that's more sports kit plus all our work and normal along bedding, swimming towels, 9 swimming sessions a week Confused. I could provide someone with a full time job!

DonaldStott · 04/07/2017 21:43

That's for me, dh and 8yo dd

Flowerpower321 · 04/07/2017 21:43

About 20 loads per week. Bedding weekly is 3 loads, towels another 2 before we start on clothes, swimming kit etc. Honestly don't know how some people manage with only a few loads per week unless they don't wash towels and bedding weekly (vom) or they make their kids wear dirty uniform!

JsOtherHalf · 04/07/2017 21:43

2 adults, 1 DS.

2 or 3 loads of washing a week, all on the same day. I tend not to use the tumble dryer.
Airer in bath, and another in spare room.

RainbowsAndUnicorn · 04/07/2017 21:43

Once a week, large load drum and easy to do just one darks, whites and bedding/towels in a morning. Can't justify the water or power to do just a few bits daily.

Longdistance · 04/07/2017 21:45

We do every other day, or every 3 days. Usually 3 loads. We do have loads of clothes though, so we're never desperate for that item of clothing as they'll be something else to wear.

Same with spare bedding. We have loads.
