AIBU?

To ask how often you do laundry?

I've been looking online for a suggested housework schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc) and was surprised to see laundry listed as a weekly task in many!

There's only two of us, and what with clothes, underwear, exercise clothes, towels, bedding, etc., if I don't do laundry every day, it starts piling up.

I don't have a dryer and have limited airing space so can't do more than one load a day - do others just do several loads on a designated day?

Family of 6, I do laundry Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. A white load, dark load, colours then towels/beddings.

I don't have a tumble dryer either.

PurpleDaisies · 04/07/2017 21:06

Two of us here and we do laundry once or twice a week. There's not enough to justify a load if we do it more often.

MrsExpo · 04/07/2017 21:07

Well I don't! There's just two of us as well and I do laundry maybe three or four loads per week. A couple of loads of clothing, one of towels and one of bedding. In winter that increases to pretty much every day as we have a dog who is a mud magnet in winter (we live in the country and mud is a fact of life from October to March) so we wash a lot of dog towels.

I can't imagine having a weekly routine written down which days ... Monday ... wash, Tuesday... Hoover house, Wednesday... clean bathroom ... etc, etc .... I just what needs doing as and when it arises.

Family of 4 - everyday.

ChoudeBruxelles · 04/07/2017 21:07

All the fucking time!

Groupie123 · 04/07/2017 21:07

Clothes weekly, bedding monthly (changed fortnightly so 2 sets), towels get handwashed daily immediately after use (keep ariel in the bathroom) and hung to dry

loveulotslikejellytots · 04/07/2017 21:08

Yeah I do at least a load a day. Me, DH and 18 month old. The 18 month old generates enough on her own for at least 2 loads a week. A load of bedding a week, a load of towels, a load of the dogs bedding/blankets a week. That's 3 loads. I tend to do all that on one of my days off work when the weathers nice as we don't have a dryer.

If I did laundry once a week I wouldn't leave the house for the entire day, I'd just be rotating drying washing and re-filling the machine! Sod that. I don't really notice the laundry, I tend to stick it on in the evening before bed, put it out in the morning, me or DH get it in.

burntoutmum · 04/07/2017 21:08

I feel like I'm washing every day!!

Realistically I wash uniform every Saturday and Wednesday and probably another 3 loads of clothes washing around it and then bedding/towels - so actually probably most days!!

KinkyAfro · 04/07/2017 21:08

I do it all on a Saturday, usually 2 loads but there's only 2 of us. DP does his stinky work stuff separately once all ours is done

Family of four. At LEAST once a day. Ugh.

haveacupoftea · 04/07/2017 21:09

Every sodding day. I blame the dog

OnlyRose · 04/07/2017 21:09

Just me - I do a load of clothes twice a week, plus towels/bedding whenever they need done.

loveulotslikejellytots · 04/07/2017 21:09

Meant to say that some loads are technically half loads. My machine has a half load setting which comes in handy when the load can't really wait (nappy explosion this morning so I had to change dd's bedding) no other washing to go in with it.

Akire · 04/07/2017 21:09

Laundry just gets done as it builds up, some people it's 3 loads day others 2 a week. I live in flat limited space so only do half loads as I know will dry before start smell.

Changedtocovermyass · 04/07/2017 21:10

Family of 5. More than one load a day, one is 16 months and in reusable nappies but that is only one load every 3rd day. Most of the laundry is bedding / towels. Bedding because 5 beds = 1 load for 5 days of the week and we have someone swimming 6 days out 7.

lorelairoryemily · 04/07/2017 21:10

3 of us and I do a load every day. I'd never keep on top of it otherwise

Writerwannabe83 · 04/07/2017 21:10

Me, DH and DS: about 4 washes a week on average.

thedcbrokemybank · 04/07/2017 21:11

Family of 6 + 2 dogs. I do at least one load per day, sometimes 2 or 3. Today I have done 3 loads (wools, lights, darks). It is a never ending task. We all do lots of sport so I am constantly kit!

hennybeans · 04/07/2017 21:11

Family of 5 and dog: I do around five loads every Sunday. I use the tumble dryer though.

Vinorosso74 · 04/07/2017 21:12

Probably 8 loads a week so most days. Obviously some are towels and bedding but we seem to generate a lot and there's only 3 of us

YellowLawn · 04/07/2017 21:13

4 of us and we do 4 or 5 loads a week
1 bedding
1 or 2 darks
1 lights
irregularly a load of teatowels (boilwash) or socks (smelly feet males/washed separately)

NoWordForFluffy · 04/07/2017 21:15

Probably averages at 1 per day, though we check the forecast so as much as possible can dry outside. This can mean 4 loads in one day then none for a few days.

Passthecake30 · 04/07/2017 21:18

Probably about 9 washes a week, I alternate in the colder/wetter months so it dries over night on the airer with the underfloor heating having been on.
It does feel like mainly my washing though, even thought there's 4 of us here Blush

BuffyFan · 04/07/2017 21:21

Family of 5, including toddler twins. If I don't do a load every day, it mounts up and I have to get through it all at weekends or somebody has to go without clean sheets for a bit longer

I can see how if you had a drier you wouldn't have to do loads every day, but through the winter at least I've only space inside for 2 loads to be drying at a time, so I have to maintain momentum!
