To not want to eat Mcd, drink while pg, and watch trash US TV shows

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 04:06

After reading recent threads, I'm wondering where all the educated and informed people on here are?????

Who would like to agree that

1)Mcd suxs not just because of what they serve (because they are menu changing but also because they are a boring chain taking over the world and closing small business, pay minimum wages, make max profits, they are not a restaurant, where's the cutlery and table service, do i need to go on?

  1. Alcohol can harm a baby, and it's not really worth a risk, we shouldn't need to drink while pg

  2. Why does everyone's profile list trash US shows- Desperate Housewives, Lost, CSI, etc, etc

Rant over, anyone agree? ah just agree with me

Am I too late to get some of that whiskey? Normally time for my second bottle of red but whiskey might hit the spot faster.

OrmIrian · 23/03/2007 11:48

Ah if you're talking about globalisation then generally yes I do care. Not sure why you only mentioned MacD's though.... with so many corprorations to choose from. And what has alcohol in pregnancy got to do with it?

expatinscotland · 23/03/2007 11:49

This thread has made me want to go to McDonald's for lunch.

I'll have a large fry with ketchup and coffee.

Mmmmm.

I'm watching Ugly Better tonight. Can't wait!

Sooooo trashy. I love Salma Hayek.

littleEasterlapin · 23/03/2007 11:55

do you lot just put "whisky" into the search all messages, or something?!

leftofcentre - globalization is a really interesting argument. Why don't you start a thread about that, starting off with a well reasoned OP, and you may discover where the educated and informed people are.

lilymolly · 23/03/2007 11:55

Nice comment........

littleEasterlapin · 23/03/2007 11:56

Oh, and you might want to avoid the word "sux" unless you want it to degenerate into an argument about grammar and spelling.

millysimmons · 23/03/2007 11:56

I love mcd's breakfasts & last pregnancy had
a craving for double sausage & egg mcmuffin almost every monring!! WOrked for them when I was a student too!!
Love trashy TV too & make the mopst of watching it when DH is away as he HATES it
Alcohol.....will have to keep that to myself!!!

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 11:58

NOTE I never said intelligent anywhere, in original post, I just said informed and educated, which in the Mcd issue I am, but who cares anyway you all love it.

I started this post because, i read the other one where most people agreed it was ok that dd went to mcd twice in one excursion, It made me very and that so many people thought it wasn't a problem.

and yes i need a life, just can't believe how people fall for the toys, the playground, the new menu, and don't care that they are everywhere and you can't find other food, and sure business are there to make money but some are more ethical than others.

OP posts:
BandofMothers · 23/03/2007 12:00

That would have been a better OP!!!

leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 12:01

Piglit, what's your opinion then?

OP posts:
lilymolly · 23/03/2007 12:03

FGS....
Noone is suggesting we are all falling for the toys/marketing etc, in fact I have never dd to Mcds, she is 15months, but have absolutely no proble with other people taking their dd/ds. IMO if it is everyday, I may question it, but at the end of the day its up to them.

I was more annoyed at the tv comment, I actually watch serious tv programmes, as well as trash. I think you really have no right to criticise anyone for watching "trash"
You really need to get something else in your life to worry about, I struggle to hold down a full time job, look ater dd, dog dp and 2 horses.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2007 12:04

I don't 'fall' for any of it.

I like the way the fries taste. And the coffee, and the McFlurries.

If you don't then don't go there. Fair enough.

BarbieLovesKen · 23/03/2007 12:07

to your question - yes you are being unreasonable... go off and have a burger... might cheer you up a bit..

littleEasterlapin · 23/03/2007 12:07

BoM is right.

so many threads dissolve into fights because the OP is ill thought out, or includes other (diverting) things - as with this one.

Gingerbear · 23/03/2007 12:08

leftofcentre, why don't you bugger off to a nerdy intellectual chatroom then, to discuss World Domination by Corporate Thugs then, instead of harping on about it on mumsnet?

Come back when the PMT has subsided dear.

BandofMothers · 23/03/2007 12:08
Grin
leftofcentre · 23/03/2007 12:13

Ok logging off now.

Enjoy your Big Mac lunches, and the extras you get with that.

In regards to my OP can I not have a few more people agree with me?????????????

I have enjoyed chatting to you all though

I do wonder why, no one wanted to know what they cooked all their food in before they started using oil?

Hulababy · 23/03/2007 12:16

leftofcentre - I disagree that you can't find anywhere else to go to eat. OK, maybe on that one thread, which was taking about a different country where the options where limited - although there was also BurgerKing IIRR, so why not pick ont hem too.

We take DD out for meals at least once a weeka nd have done since she was a tny baby. She is almost 5. We have never treated McDonalds as one of those - our trips to McD's few and far between and normally when we really do want something fast and on the go. There are so many different pleces to eat pout. Yes, some are chains but others are not. I never have any problems finding non-McD eateries TBH.

However if you are talking about globalisation, then I think you will find that there are far more than just McDs resposnsible for that.

As I said before, some of your original arguements were also inaccurate.

Hulababy · 23/03/2007 12:18

leftofcentre - I don't need to ask. I am also educated about some of these things too. I still choose to occasionally eat there.

BandofMothers · 23/03/2007 12:21

Most of us already knew dear!!!!!!
We just don't care as much as you. Once a month is not going to kill anyone!!!!
Byeeeeeeeee

foxybrown · 23/03/2007 12:22

leftofcentre - you are quite rude. What business is it of yours how other people live their lives?

If you have so much time on your hands to be worried about these issues which are of no consequence, why don't you use that time to do something useful that matters?

Twinkie1 · 23/03/2007 12:28

God I'm not even pregnant and would love to do all you listed.

I would love to eat a big greasy quarter pounder with cheese right now but of course being posh I would lift out the gherkiny thing and put it back in the box.

I had a few glasses of wine last night and you can bet your bottom dollar will go out with PNG and drink shit loads tonight - need it after a shitty week

And finally tomorrow when I am feeling hungover my lovely, rich, clever, handsome husband will take the kids out whilst I lay ont he sofa watchings hite US TV - have it all on sky+.

I don't mind being uneducated and uninformed, I am happy and don't slate people that I don't know.

Do you mind me asking your level of qualifications, the jobs you have held and what publications you read to be so high and mighty???

sandcastles · 23/03/2007 12:29
  1. But they also create a huge amount of jobs

  2. Freedom of choice & all that!

  3. Who cares! We like what we like!

OrmIrian · 23/03/2007 12:30

Actually foxy - you are right loc is rude!

IntergalacticWalrus · 23/03/2007 12:30

I'll eat your gherkin, Twinkie
