AIBU?

To not want to eat Mcd, drink while pg, and watch trash US TV shows

After reading recent threads, I'm wondering where all the educated and informed people on here are?????

Who would like to agree that

1)Mcd suxs not just because of what they serve (because they are menu changing but also because they are a boring chain taking over the world and closing small business, pay minimum wages, make max profits, they are not a restaurant, where's the cutlery and table service, do i need to go on?

2) Alcohol can harm a baby, and it's not really worth a risk, we shouldn't need to drink while pg

3) Why does everyone's profile list trash US shows- Desperate Housewives, Lost, CSI, etc, etc

Rant over, anyone agree? ah just agree with me

I am laughing at LOC going 'go on, ask me! ask me!" and nobody is rising to it. LOC, I would guess you are almost certainly wrong anyway. You seem a bit hazy about nutrition.
You say you like to question things, but you don't like it much when you get answers!

re heating and transfats, one of the good things about rapeseed oil is that it remains stable at high temperatures.

1.)MickeyDs...I don't go there a lot, but if I'm out on the road as I am quite frequently with my job and having coeliac disease, strangely enough its about the only motorway service where I can guarantee a gluten free meal (if I have a Big Mac without the bun). So, not as evil as Little Chef/Moto etc etc IMHO cos McD doesn't make my insides wither and die if I eat there. I also particulary love that orange goop they put on Big Macs, especially so since becoming pregnant!
2.)alcohol...a glass or two of wine once or twice a week is perfectly acceptable and can be beneficial in lowering BP...of course we shouldn't neck a bottle of wine a day if pregnant but most women make sensible, informed decisions regarding their own limits. Also, you can't stop alcoholics/drug abusers from getting pregnant, unless you advocate sterilisation now can you?
3.)I have a 2:1 from a leading university and consider myself both educated and informed. I have the intelligence to realise that TV series like these (including British and American) are just good old escapist fun...they aren't a documentary...maybe you should do the same??

finally....you would get a much more sympathetic, educated and informed set of responses if you pose an educated and informed question!

So There (tongue sticking out emoticon!)

Haven't had a chance to read whole thread (am looking forward to doing it later ) but along with everyone else, can't resist posting my responses to OP:

  1. I've seen Supersize Me and McLibel and read Fast Food Nation, so I am probably at least as well informed on this as the OP.

If she has really taken in Fast Food Nation she will understand why people eat there. She will also appreciate that McDonalds is one of many who operate in the same way and by no means the worst in a lot of ways.

We eat at McD's when we're travelling and need food that is fast, cheap and predictable, so a sit down restaurant meal would hardly be rational. MacD's beef in this country is British so all the feed lot stuff in FFN doesn't apply. Ethically I'd rather eat there than KFC, incidentally.

Please tell me you never eat non-organic or proper free-range chicken, Leftofcentre.

  1. I do lots of things that might harm my baby while pregnant, like crossing the road.

  1. No US tv shows on my profile but that's my loss - there is some seriously good stuff on atm.

Now I'm going to go and cook dinner for my highly educated husband from the contents of my organic box.

oooh, ta!

For what it's worth, I've always maintained, since my uni days, that the more intelligent someone is the more 'crap' tv they watch. I know lots of clever people, and they all watch every bit of USA 'trash' going. I, on the other hand, just listen to the radio a lot....

Is this another one of those "I am better than you so look how smug I am" thread?

Report
Washersaurus · 23/03/2007 19:49

No rhubard - it came across to me more as one of those "You are all uneducated, ill-informed idiots..whereas I have read a book and watched a docu-film" kind of threads

I think OP could have been worded better so as not to offend the vast MN population (not that I'm agreeing we are all idiots).

Hey there aloha - rapeseed is the best super super healthy oil but it must be cold-pressed, anything hydrogenated generally means "all the natural goodness taken out" to me!
