To think it's inevitable that JC will be PM and TM should just let it happen ASAP

They are now pretty much at the same popularity and in the years to come there will be millions more Labour voters and millions of Tory voters that will pass away. It's pretty much a done deal right? So why doesn't TM just go now?

"The world is changing. It cannot be stopped. There is no going back to this past that never existed."

Huh?

The only way to change our parliamentary system is through parliamentary action . Or a referendum. These may come.

As for the past that never existed whatever that means: stuff that happened before you were born, make, actually happened.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 12:27

And of course, we have referenda where they are agreed by Parliament.

MaryMcCarthy · 10/07/2017 12:32

*"Jezsus has now announced he will write off all outstanding student loans (at a cost of £100billion +).

He is a complete fantasist."*

He's announced nothing of the sort. I suggest you pay closer attention to your news source, or change your news source to an accurate one.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 12:33

Didn't he "announce " thinking about it. Big fecking deal.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 10/07/2017 12:52

Apologies - my news source was the BBC - will change it immediately as per your suggestion.

It was an 'aim', not an announcement - I misheard - I'm still of the opinion he's a deluded fantasist though, as i cannot see for the life of me where the £100 billion is coming from.

makeourfuture · 10/07/2017 12:56

Well it has been interesting watching you guys attempt to retrench after what must have been a terrible shock. Still strong and stable - "bold" I think is the word now.

There is no way, however, that the significance of the GE can be over-stated. Especially to May's pm-ship, nor to the supposed Tory hedgemony

Her plea for help now would not happen from a position of power.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 12:56

Calling him a deluded fantasist is frankly the nicer of the things you can say about him.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 12:57

Who the fuck are "you guys"?

brexitstolemyfuture · 10/07/2017 13:00

Aren't the current calculations that most people will never pay off their student loans?

So canceling them and allowing more money to slosh around the economy sounds like not that bad of an idea.

For what it's worth I don't agree with free higher education universally. But some should be free for skills we are lacking in.

JC has now stated, through the shadow chancellor, that it was an "ambition" to write off student loans and bring about their end. I thought it was part of their manifesto. Is the manifesto therefore a list of ambitions? How can you vote for that?

We will get another Labour government probably next time. The party will need to re-group and the main problem is JC despite his current popularity as a backlash against the conservatives. Will JC be nearly 80 by the next election?

I am enjoying Ian Duncan Smith and Chukka Ummuna on Good Morning Britain. They both present well despite their differences and can maintain a sense of humour in the face of the wall of sound that is Piers Morgan.

The tories look very tired and uninspiring and if they unseat TM, then they will only have a holding PM. Having said that, wasn't John Major just that and he served a few terms.

The last election, although Labour failed to win, just showed that you absolutely cannot second guess the British public.

BMW6 · 10/07/2017 13:21

What does "retrench" mean? I googled but no hits

LadyinCement · 10/07/2017 13:26

What the Tories missed at the last election was that Labour had nothing to lose - they were 20 points behind in the opinion polls. Echoing the same message of stability but with a few little tweaks was going to achieve nothing. But in offering free this, that and the other Labour (well, Corbyn's crew, anyway) attracted attention and made them look very different from the same old same old.

A Manifesto is just a declaration - you can write absolutely anything in it. Obviously certain things like nationalisation were preposterous. Nice idea, but £68 billion to buy back the water companies was obviously just a touch unaffordable. And as others were super-keen to stress on MN, the Manifesto was just a discussion, as some of us were rather alarmed about the land tax (£12K council tax for me, and I live in a very ordinary place).

BMW6 · 10/07/2017 13:26

Tories are "bold" you say make?
Not like you to be complimentary about them!

Are you OK?

makeourfuture · 10/07/2017 13:56

Not my words! Just am hearing Tories say they are " bold" now.

Driving boldly over the No Plan cliff.

ElsieMc · 10/07/2017 13:57

I thought a manifesto was a published list of intentions by the party in question. Not a list of popularity raising ambitions.

strikealight · 10/07/2017 13:59

So we are still all Tories if we hate JC. Hmm

Disillusionedone · 10/07/2017 14:09

I bet the Tories like Chuka. He practically is one.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 10/07/2017 14:28

I do agree with this brexit.

I also think £9000 is enough for fees & they shouldn't be allowed to rise further; also that the interest on the loans needs to be addressed too.

specialsubject · 10/07/2017 14:32

Free university for the stuff we need (engineering , tech, maths) was in one party's manifesto. As was cancelling hs2.

Unfortunately that party is ukip.

LadyinCement · 10/07/2017 14:52

When I did that online "what party are you" test I came out as a bit UKIP - because of the hs2, the free university for certain things... and deporting foreign criminals. Even the Labour Party candidate who I was speaking with admitted to scoring as UKIP on these!

Grin

specialsubject · 10/07/2017 17:38

lady yes, I found that. Why we can't have a sensible policies party is beyond me!

If labour had ticked those three boxes, even though none of them affect me personally, they might just have got my vote despite corbyn.

I suppose I should make it clear that I didn't vote ukip, not that we had one.
