To think it's inevitable that JC will be PM and TM should just let it happen ASAP

They are now pretty much at the same popularity and in the years to come there will be millions more Labour voters and millions of Tory voters that will pass away. It's pretty much a done deal right? So why doesn't TM just go now?

StickThatInYourPipe · 02/07/2017 20:21

Out of interest, did you vote OP?

FriendPlease · 02/07/2017 20:23

Actually I know a lot of young people who voted tory and will continue to do so in any eventuality. But anyone would be foolish to ignore the significant rise in labour votes. I'm happy that despite the obvious bias from certain major media outlets, labour still did well. There is hope. Now they can start really effectively oppose tories on their failed austerity measures.

BMW6 · 02/07/2017 20:27

I read the other day a saying ascribed to Churchill

" If a man is not a socialist by the time he is 20, he has no heart. If he is not a conservative by the time he is 40, he has no brain."

OP - there are more voters over 40 than there are 18-20, so I think you are likely to be disappointed.

I daresay Labour will be in Government again - highly unlikely that they never will again!
There may even be Corbyn as PM but inevitably he would find Governance infinitely harder than Opposition and will be a huge let-down to his "fans".

brexitstolemyfuture · 02/07/2017 20:32

I voted lib dem because of my area, I thought people campaigning for labour in the local area were mad but labour got three times the votes they did at the last GE. I would vote labour next time.

Foolish to say JC will not be PM. Haven't you learnt your lesson?!

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/07/2017 20:34

Corbyns getting on in years. I wish him no ill will but hope to God he's never PM. 🤞🏼

MorrisZapp · 02/07/2017 20:34

Of course labour will govern again. It's a cycle. But it won't happen by closing your eyes and saying Jeremy Corbyn three times.

Voiceforreason · 02/07/2017 20:44

Given that the'baby boomer' years were from 1945 till 1964, the ages of these voters currently are 72 down to 53. Hardly decrepit. The political shift from older to younger will not become apparent for 10 to 15 years. By this time JC will be between 78 and 83 years old. His boat has sailed. The Labour Party is a house divided and in disarray. He is politically devisive within his own party. Hoping to whip up support for another election is futile.

Dragongirl10 · 02/07/2017 20:47

Op you are in cloud cookoo land, the Tories won by 50 seats that is a lot!!! You may love JC but tghat does not change the facts.

Also in case you have been asleep for weeks Brexit is happening....

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 02/07/2017 20:50

You're delusional, OP. Just like Corbyn and the majority of his followers.

But that's okay, because the likes of you and him will never be in charge of this country.

Binkybix · 02/07/2017 20:50

Apparently the average age for flipping from left to right is 47 and is increasing. I'm sure Labour will come in again one day soon. Everything is so up in the air I'd never say never at moment, but I don't think Corbyn will get it. He did much better than expected but it was against an absolutely shocking Tory campaign and manifesto.

FidgetSpinner · 02/07/2017 21:06

Seems anything is possible at the mo.

BMW6 · 02/07/2017 21:12

Thinking about it further, are you pretty young OP?
I ask because as an old gimmer of knocking on 60 I've seen Labour and Conservative rise and fall in popularity over god knows how many GE's.

Sometimes it's very close but a working majority. Fewer times a working minority. A couple of times absolute landslides to the "other" side.

I do not ever recall anyone ever suggesting anything as puerile as you suggest in your opening post. Governance is tough. Hard decisions have to be made, and many, many compromises too.
Do you REALLY want any Government to say "Oh dear, the Other Party is almost as popular as us - so even though we got more votes and seats in a democratic Election we'll just let the Opposition take over irrespective of the Electorate"

Because one day Labour will be in the position the Tories are now. It may even be with the Beloved Leader JC as PM.

Would you propose the same then?? Nah. Only when it suits you.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 02/07/2017 21:17

Not even funny.

You do understand that the vast majority of people didn't vote for Labour under Corbyn, don't you? More people wanted the Tories. And the argument that Tory voters didn't want the DUP coalition is stupid. Labour would need other parties to shore them up - I voted Lib Dem and I would be seriously pissed if my vote was counted as pro-Labour when it was consciously anti-Labour because I think Corbyn is a tosser and as corrupt as any Tory.

The comment about Tory voters dying is extremely nasty and far from the ethical Left politics I believe in. You could equally say that those millions of young Labour voters will grow up.

Nikephorus · 02/07/2017 21:25

He wasn't, but lots of people didn't vote as they couldn't see it happening. He could easily get the 10-20% extra to get a majority of the vote was soon imo.
On that logic you could equally say that plenty of people didn't turn up & vote Tory as they thought they were on course for a landslide and their votes wouldn't be needed....

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 02/07/2017 21:28

So the party who got the most votes by. Sizeable majority should just move aside and let the person who lost be a sizeable majority take over the country? Which part of democracy do you not understand?? Jezza basically turned round to his key electorate and said vote for me and I'll give you £40k. The Tories basically said to their key electotate look we have issues financing cars we are going to ask you to pay some more. Members of the jezza cult really seem to have been brainwashed and think the guy can actually walk on water. I know he's a bloke with a beard promising the meek can inherit the earth and promising to feed the 5000 with no more than 5fish. His speech at glastonbury was not the modern day equivalent to the sermon on the mount! but I would just like to remind the cult members, JC is not the son of God with a predetermined life to rules the world. Luckily people have a few years to to get a grip before we have to vote again

Maxandrubyrubyandmax · 02/07/2017 21:29

Care obviously

SuperBeagle · 02/07/2017 21:34

Voting tendencies will continue to align with socioeconomic status, geographic area, education etc. That's not changing anytime soon, and it means that many young people will vote Tory.

The80sweregreat · 02/07/2017 21:40

No way will this happen. Sorry but i cant see it at all. Not a tory voter but for labour to get another 65 seats is an uphill struggle. Tories will not want another GE. They are in it for the long haul now i think.

FizbotheClown · 02/07/2017 21:40

Except you're forgetting those in the middle getting older and moving to the right.

I'm one of those. Some of us have voted labour in the past, seen labour over spending and find it scary. Also many who didn't vote may well have been complacent Tory. I doubt they'll be so complacent next time with the thought of Corbyn in power. I also think some may have voted labour to make a point knowing full well they'd never stand a chance. Think the thought of Corbyn getting any closer to power would be enough to send them voting in right the other direction.

brexitstolemyfuture · 02/07/2017 21:41

delusional? I was called that by aibu and flamed when I talked of trump and brexit. Now look at where we are.

Fact is labour got 40% and Tory's got 42%, another GE in 6 months and the winner will be too close to call.

OP posts:
Figaro2017 · 02/07/2017 21:43

Lets go with your argument OP and the Tories become unelectable for generations. Who would you see forming an opposition? Lets face it we have regressed to two party politics again so would you like to see one party politics? Thats not a recipe for disaster......

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 02/07/2017 21:47

I really despair over the number of people who don't seem to understand how democracies work.

wanderings · 02/07/2017 21:48

Maxandrubyrubyandmax
I've been waiting for the connection between the modern JC and the JC of the first century. I'm surprised Corbyn himself wasn't promising the second coming of Jesus, he was promising plenty of other miracles.

I also can't help wondering if Corbyn thought he had little chance of winning, so he made wild promises that he had no hope of keeping, and was genuinely surprised by the result that happened.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 02/07/2017 21:54

Personally, I like the system whereby the party who won the most seats gets to govern for a parliamentary term then we all vote to decide if they get another 4 years or if we want the other lot to take over.

What exactly is the alternative you are proposing?

mummymeister · 02/07/2017 21:55

brexit obviously its been a while since there has been a JC thread so you just had to start one.

but honestly, by your usual high standards, this is a pretty lame one.

HE LOST. HE DIDNT WIN. HE GOT LESS THAN SHE DID. HIS PARTY BEAT NO ONE.

Don't try and predict the future. remember John Smith or are you not as old as me. Jezza has a lot more skeletons in the cupboard and with any luck some intelligent journo will find them and he will be discredited.

he is an old man, with bags of charm and charisma but no morals at all. He knows how to whip up a crowd - he always has done but great orators and great revolutionaries rarely make great leaders. Numerous rallies I heard him speak at and he was anti the EU.

I hope he never ever leads this country. but of course if he did get voted in he wouldn't be leading this country would he. Momentum would. funny how you never mention them in any of your posts.
