Was my DH BU for making the neighbour wash his dog's piss off our car?

We have a neighbour about 4 doors away who has several dogs and is often seen walking past our house taking his dogs out. He's never spoken to us since we moved here 3 years ago, never smiled back, and if we are outside when he is walking past, he looks at the pavement. He does seem to talk to some of the other neighbours

A few weeks ago both DH and I were at home during the day, when said neighbour walked one of his dogs past. We just happened to be looking out the front window (as you do when you notice someone walking past), when we saw the dog lifting his leg and pissing against one of our rear car wheels and the bottom part of the bumper . The neighbour didn't seem to make any attempt to tug at his collar, he just carried on looking at the pavement, and so the dog carried on until he was finished. The neighbour then proceeded to carry on with his walk.

DH's instant reaction was to knock on the window to stop the neighbour from walking on, and gestured to him (like a "what are you doing" kind of gesture), he then went outside while I stayed inside.

I saw them have a few words, which was DH pointing at the car and not looking very happy, the neighbour appeared to be shrugging but apologising, and then went back to the direction of his house.

DH came back in and said that he politely asked him to make sure his dog doesn't do his business on our car again and that he wants it washing off. I'm not as assertive as DH so I told him that it wasn't necesssary to get him to wash it off, as long as he tries to not let his dog do it again, but DH's view was that if he was someone that actually acknowledged us from time to time rather than ignoring our existence then he would've taken that view, but why should we when he clearly doesn't like us etc etc

The neighbour appeared about 2 mins later just with his wife now and a bucket and brush.
Whilst washing it off they didn't look up.

Ever since then, the neighbour has gone from not much acknowledging us, to now grimacing at us, staring across at our house when he walks past, and furthermore, making a point of crossing the road just before he gets to our house and then crossing back to this side once past our house.

Could I kindly just ask for the general consensus of who WBU here, should my DH not have said anything and/or not asked him to wash it off? I said to my DH that maybe he felt humiliated but DH said that it's arrogant of him to think his dog can piss where ever he likes and not accept the consequences if it's against someone else's personal property.

But he didn't do that, did he? He got a kick out of humiliating a man he thought wasn't doffing his cap enough at him. And he has a chorus of congratulations to encourage that behaviour...maybe to YOUR son or daughter!

He made an irresponsible pet owner clean up after his pet. Without his intervention the guy clearly didn't give a toss about where his pet pissed.

OP's DH deserves a Public Service Award.

Mrstiggywink49 · 03/07/2017 22:06

Your DH sounds like a man asking for trouble. He could have just ignored it, there must be many times when dogs pee up cars and no one gives a toss. Try to get on with your neighbours....it's incidents like this that escalate into punch ups and worse. Who is to say your neighbour doesn't have a friend who is a bit of a bully just like your DH? ......he might feel like putting a brick thro your window!

squishysquirmy · 03/07/2017 22:08

"Your DH sounds like a man asking for trouble."
I disagree.
If he is a bully, then he will have well a honed instinct by now and will know exactly who to pick on and who not to.
Sad

Awful

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 03/07/2017 22:09

Dixie I am a huge admirer of yours!!! I have to agree with you ...I don't believe for one second the car was parked way up the drive!! That was drip fed and I just don't buy it!!!

LucieLucie · 03/07/2017 22:09

Hep my lord what planet are you on??!!!

Fails to clean up after their pet pissing?? Are you for real!!?

It's not an offense of any kind for any animal to piss in public Biscuit

Similarly it's not an offence of any kind to allow an animal to piss in public.

However, it should be an offence to be so fucking stupid.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/07/2017 22:10

Without his intervention? 😂

It was a car tyre, the dog didnt piss in his roast dinner!

My point remains. No way would he have done this with another bloke. Just the one him and the OP had already took a disliking to incidentally. Hmm

That should have read

Similarly it's not an offence of any kind to 'fail' to clean up after an animal has pissed in public.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/07/2017 22:15

Well the dog shouldn't have been on you drive but I don't actually believe it was.

I dont believe it was on the drive either Dixie. Our road is a huge dog walkers route. Fields as far as the eye can see behind us and a massive park and fields at the bottom of us too. So many of them park across their drive instead of IN it. But the trespassing aspect throws a different angle on it you see.

Also for future reference. Bit of useless information for you all. If you tell your insurance company that you park in tour drive and it gets damaged on the road. It invalidated your insurance. This happened to one of ExDHs very pissed off friends when his car got clipped. Insurers wouldn't pay out because it wasn't parked on the drive as he'd said in his policy.

Babbitywabbit · 03/07/2017 22:17

Neither is it an offence to fart loudly as you walk past someone in the street. Doesn't mean it's not disgusting though. Quit with the pedantic twattery about whether the neighbour has actually committed an offence. It was fucking rude to allow the dog he's walking to piss up someone's car.
Dh is still a knob and a bully. But it's quite possible the think that without defending the neighbours actions

squishysquirmy · 03/07/2017 22:19

Careful now babbity. Someone on this thread will tell you that public farters should "clear up their farts after themselves and their windy pets".

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 03/07/2017 22:19

Pixie IMO the car was parked on the road or else at the bottom of the drive so that the wheels were on the footpath!! I trust Dixie's instincts as well as my own.....plus the OP hasn't been back to defend her useless husband!!

I STILL can't get over the cheerleaders on this thread makes mental note to ignore the idiots

Lastgirl check me out. I am not a troll. Typical response from an animal lover when a right minded person doesn't agree with them. Pathetic.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 03/07/2017 22:28

Hey Dixie!!😃Yes, I remember...these threads always go the same way!!

But if there is one thing that annoys me in life, it is bullying alpha-males!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😆

Lastgirl Clearly I must be if your definition of a troll is someone who doesn't agree with you.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 03/07/2017 22:37

Sorry Mumsnet!! And sorry to Hep!! 💐

Shewhomustgowithoutname · 03/07/2017 22:50

13 pages about dog pee. I dont see why it is at all acceptable to allow a dog peeing on peoples' property or public places. It is dirty and likely germy. You would not wash your hands in dog pee and prepare food. Kids always touch things likely touch where a dog has pee d. Then child sucks thumb or eats biscuit. I was fussy about DCs washing hands before eating. Some are not so fussy. Still people think this is OK. Just so that it is clear my DCs are all teenage plus so not likely to be in the category mentioned.
Dog owners should keep their dogs and the waste products on there own property

AwaywiththePixies27 · 03/07/2017 23:31

No one said it was. Confused

rwalker · 04/07/2017 06:27

yes they did one woman pages back admits that see lets her dog do it
can;t believe people are says he's bu for not wanting neighbour dog to use his property as a toilet and making him clear up after his pet he was in control of and let it do this .

Topbananaa · 04/07/2017 06:38

Your DH sounds like a knob I'm afraid, I'd have been mortified if my DH did that!
