Are weekday weddings a bit shit, for guests?

Hi there,

following on from another thread on here - it got me thinking about weekday weddings

I have been invited to a few but only ever attended one weekday wedding, which was a family member and even then a lot of people did not turn up

It seems a bit cheap to me, that the B&G are happy to inconvenience every single guest, as long as they can save a few quid?

I have to attend a wedding on a Wednesday in a few weeks and I'm annoyed I have to ask for a day off to attend a wedding rather than have an actual day off!

Revolution909 if it bothers you that much don't attend the wedding simple really

But then your weekend day is freed up in its place?

Not every one has a Monday to Friday job! If your that inconvenienced by it don't attend, they invite you because they care about your friendship and will understand if you can not make it. Don't make out it is bothersome as that makes you look like a total shit.

I can not attend as husband has to go for sure and I then I will would be left with childcare duties, so I can't win. And no it doesn't free my Saturday (that at. Least would be a normal use of my Saturday), it also means I can't party as I have to work the next day...

revolution909 · 04/07/2017 23:15

And that was supposed to be a "can't"

grannytomine · 05/07/2017 08:20

How awful, you will have childcare duties for your children. What is the world coming to.

How does it not free your Saturday? Instead of going to the wedding you have a Saturday to do whatever you want just like you would if you took a day off in the week and didn't go to a wedding.

Why can't you party if you have work the next day?

Meh, we got married at 3:30pm now a Friday, so people who wanted to come and had to travel could take the day off, and have the weekend for a bit of a mini break. Those closer could take half a day off and attend with no issues. A handful of people couldn't come, but tbh neither DH or I know many teachers, hospital staff etc so it was all people with 9-5:30 jobs, so suited fine. I regret nothing. Grin

Had save the date for a Friday wedding for months. I was really looking forward to booking 2 days off booking a hotel and having mini break with dh and dd and catching up with dh family which we haven't seen since dd was 8 months (she now 5) but the full invite is adults only so we won't be going as it's not nearby and we have no one to look after dd after school. I was really looking forward to dd seeing family for the first time properly but they are obviously not bothered so that's life Sad
