To think they can't just shrug their shoulders and say bad luck - Royal Mail

So I was staying with a couple at their home and ordered an expensive phone to be delivered, my bank card, details etc were registered there so I thought at the time it was pretty permanent. Something happened and I had to leave in a hurry, the item was delivered to the address. Post office took a photo and the woman of the house also sent me a photo showing the item had been delivered and what should she do with it.
Fast forward a month, we've fallen out.
I've asked when I can collect my post - "what post" was the response. Ive contacted royal mail who haven't got a signature but they have got a photo of the fact that they dumped an £500 phone on a doorstep - great job guys !
Everyone is just shrugging their shoulders and saying it's not their problem, well I don't have a phone I paid good money for.
What would you do ?
Just to make it worse, the woman of the house is a police officer.
Haven't spoken to her, just her dickhead husband emailing denying all knowledge and no doubt disposing of my phone as we speak.

Why is it royal mails problem. You have a photo from the house owner showing it has been delivered. Your issue is with them.

MrBobDobalina · 01/07/2017 16:58

It's not RM, you yourself agree that it has been delivered to the address on the package!

witsender · 01/07/2017 16:59

Not royal mail's problem, you have a 'friend' problem. If she sent you a photo they can't claim it wasn't there, I'm sure she wouldn't want you going to the police.

Must have been a pretty big, pretty quick falling out?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/07/2017 16:59

There must be much more to this story but I don't think you can blame Royal Mail entirely. Why did a month pass without you collecting it?

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:00

I really don't think they should have dumped it on a doorstep, that is not delivering a parcel is it ?

OP posts:
icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:01

I had to leave the country for a month to deal with a family matter but that really isn't relevant, I'd received a message from the woman to say they had the parcel within days of me leaving. And asked her to keep it safe, we were still talking then.

I think you should be threatening your former friend with legal action. You have the photograph to prove she took in the item, so she hasn't a leg to stand on.

nutbrownhare15 · 01/07/2017 17:02

If you have thetexts I'd let her know you have them and will go to the police if she doesn't hand it over. It's theft. Nothing to do.with rm.

Whosthemummynow · 01/07/2017 17:03

But the parcel was picked up from the doorstep if it was ever just left on the doorstep and you have proof your friend had it. Royal mail has nothing to do with this. As it was actually delivered and recieved

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:04

I've said I'm going to give him til Monday to have a look around the house to find the parcel before I report it .... Was told to report away, then sent him the photo that she'd sent via a message and he's gone quiet.
So we agree it's them not RM ?

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 01/07/2017 17:05

You absolutely have proof your friend received your parcel? This isn't Royal Mails failing, is it?

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:05

The photo RM took shows they did indeed just dump it and think that was perfectly acceptable behaviour.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 01/07/2017 17:06

Nothing to do with Royal Mail.
You have an email from her confirming that it arrived.
Tell her you'll go to the police if it isn't handed over.
I can't imagine her bosses being too pleased with her!

youarenotkiddingme · 01/07/2017 17:06

If you didn't have friends (or ex friends) photo and message to say they had it them you could have blamed Rm for leaving it in an unsafe place.

But you have proof it didn't go missing from there.

I agree give to deadline you've stated and then report.

DonutCone · 01/07/2017 17:07

The Royal Mial element is a total red herring. You know who has the phone and it isn't then, so I don't know why you are trying to make it their fault.

Maudlinmaud · 01/07/2017 17:07

I'm surprised RM dumped it. I usually have to trek to the post office to collect things. So annoying.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:09

I'm pissed that I'm in this situation and I do think RM have contributed to it, the phone case didn't get dumped, I had to go and pick that up from the post office and sign for it. I just can't believe the more expensive item was just left and now it's getting out of hand !

OP posts:
ShinyGirl · 01/07/2017 17:11

Royal mail de!livered your parcel.

How is it their fault that you've had a barney?

GreenHillsOfHome · 01/07/2017 17:12

You have a message from the woman saying she had it? Therefore it's not RM's issue, it was successfully delivered to and received by the occupants of the address you provided.

It's the police for stolen goods.

Untangled07 · 01/07/2017 17:12

It's not Royal Mail's fault. Even though they left the parcel on the doorstep it safely found its way into the house, so they've kept their end of the bargain. Or are you going to pretend the parcel wasn't delivered (despite knowing it was)? Potentially getting the poor postman/woman into trouble? Angry

If I were you I'd try and sort things out amicably with this couple. If that didn't work I'd consider going to the police.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:13

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on what constitutes delivery !
Dumping it doesn't count in my book.

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 01/07/2017 17:13

Million dollar nosey question.
What did you fall out over?
You don't have to answer.

AnnetteCurtains · 01/07/2017 17:13

But it was delivered
You appear to just want the RM to stump up for it

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/07/2017 17:13

The Parcel made it inside the address. You have photographic evidence of this. Therefore it was delivered & there is no way you can claim it wasn't.

Your ex-friend has stolen it.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 17:14

I've been to Royal Mail and asked for proof of delivery and been provided with a photo, there's no pretending of anything - I'm not dishonest - unlike the police persons other half !
