To think they can't just shrug their shoulders and say bad luck - Royal Mail

So I was staying with a couple at their home and ordered an expensive phone to be delivered, my bank card, details etc were registered there so I thought at the time it was pretty permanent. Something happened and I had to leave in a hurry, the item was delivered to the address. Post office took a photo and the woman of the house also sent me a photo showing the item had been delivered and what should she do with it.
Fast forward a month, we've fallen out.
I've asked when I can collect my post - "what post" was the response. Ive contacted royal mail who haven't got a signature but they have got a photo of the fact that they dumped an £500 phone on a doorstep - great job guys !
Everyone is just shrugging their shoulders and saying it's not their problem, well I don't have a phone I paid good money for.
What would you do ?
Just to make it worse, the woman of the house is a police officer.
Haven't spoken to her, just her dickhead husband emailing denying all knowledge and no doubt disposing of my phone as we speak.

Also, if you didn't want it to be left on the front door, or anyone else to accept the delivery, why didn't you gave instruction to the seller?

swingofthings · 01/07/2017 18:42

I still don't understand why you're not calling her. If she's not answering her phone, keep going to her house until she's there.

Notknownatthisaddress · 01/07/2017 18:42

The post office took a photo of the woman when they delivered the (phone) package? Confused

Never known this in my life.

The 'action' you take should be against the woman (your former friend,) not the post office. You have no case.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:42

Tiggy I haven't disagreed at all.
At any stage, we are all in agreement that it's the person who has the phone that needs to pay up. There's been no suggestion at all of claiming from RM or parading myself in the local paper.

OP posts:
SnickersWasAHorse · 01/07/2017 18:44

I don't feel it's her that has nicked the phone, as that would be bloody stupid, I think it's him.
So the 'her' is the wife of the couple who sent you the picture. The 'him' is the husband?
Why do you think he took it?

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 01/07/2017 18:44

Are we talking about Royal Mail in the UK or Australia OP?

SnickersWasAHorse · 01/07/2017 18:45

There's been no suggestion at all of claiming from RM

So why bother contacting them when you knew for a fact it was delivered?

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:46

I feel, she has put it in a cupboard and he doesn't know she has put it in a cupboard and that would be the ideal scenario that when she arrives home he says, i've been having an email argument with icloud and she says oh don't worry here is the phone.
However the more I think about it, why hasn't she responded to the messages, she reads everything he's not allowed any privacy sooooo who knows. Just not what I'd expect.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:47

SnickersWasAHorse Because she didn't respond and I needed proof of delivery from them

Plot holes from this story aside, this is not about Royal Mail. I'm not sure why you're being so insistent on something that isn't relevant to the situation at hand. Perhaps you should try working on directing your anger, hostility, and frustration towards the appropriate party aka your friend?

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:49

Indeed

Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 18:49

Went to the post office to get proof of delivery.... unlike the proof of the photo sent by the woman.....

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:51

I felt the official post office proof would carry more weight and indeed it will

OP posts:
Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 18:52

It WONT prove anything!! How will a photo of the phone on the doorstep make things better??? She'll say it was taken off doorstep!

FFS!!!

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:53

The two combined I'm hoping paint a picture, but yeah that occured to me as well. Again hence I'm pissed with RM because it should never have been on the door step.

OP posts:
Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 18:57

But that is totally irrelevant to the story! Your "friend" has stolen £500 from you!

You had your bank card registered to her address, so would've needed to be resident to pass money laundering etc. So I presume had lots of belongings there?

But you return from an emergency trip and CANNOT get access? So what's happened to all your stuff??? Never mind the phone???

Or when you left you took everything with you?? Really?

MusicForTheJiltedGeneration · 01/07/2017 18:58

I feel we'd get more sense from the OP if we communicated via the medium of interpretive dance.

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 18:58

Yes I took everything, there wasn't much we arent talking washing machines and fridges. And she did indeed take another photo of a top I'd left there.

HotelEuphoria · 01/07/2017 19:01

Ffs your friend stole it, so you threaten friend with police then follow up. Why is it ok to rip off the Royal Mail?

GabsAlot · 01/07/2017 19:01

gt imei number from where u bought it report it stolen

Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 19:01

So what else is registered there? Where are you living now?

You cannot just change bank details without proof of address!

Hi Barclays, this is Charlie, could you send me a new card and pin to this address?!? You'd need proof!

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 19:03

I think you'll find Charlie if you can get through security, mothers maiden name, d of b etc you can change your address very easily.

OP posts:
Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 19:06

I think you'll find you can't!

So your homeless now?

And yes Royal Mail can shrug their shoulders! They've not stolen your package.

Whole story makes me wonder why when you moved out for an emergency, your friends cut ties and would not let you back in!

icloud75com · 01/07/2017 19:09

No I didn't say I was homeless.
You can change your address, give Barclays a ring now if you like
It's nothing to do with them not letting me back in, I have my own house which was being repaired whilst I stayed with them temporarily, there's no reason for me to go back there.
We fell out over something utterly ridiculous, I'm not going into it but frankly I'd be embarrased on their behalf if I have to show the police their messages as a result of all this. It isn't me that looks an idiot and she's clearly pissed when she wrote it !

Charlie97 · 01/07/2017 19:13

You have your own house but registered your bank card to their address? GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
