Me and 2 friends are going for a weekend away, staying in quite a nice hotel.
We are driving down in friends car.
I packed a small suitcase (the smallest size ) and 15 mins ago she texts saying "can't bring a case, boot has alcohol in etc so we are taking a small hold-all...I said I haven't got one and we are leaving at 7 am in the morning.
She replied use carrier bags?????
I said no.
Why tell me this late when there's nothing I can do
Would you be annoyed ?

Going somewhere with three crates of cans, I should think taking your things in a carrier bag would suit the tone nicely.

RaspberryPi1 · 01/07/2017 08:27

Better to lose some money and not go, rather than being treated like shit and go.

UnaPalomaBlanca · 01/07/2017 08:29

She's going to a nice hotel with 3 crates of cans? And she expects you to check in with your luggage in a carrier bag?
If you still want to go, put your case on your lap. ( unless it's a smart car or a mini, there's got to be room for a small case)

wtffgs · 01/07/2017 08:30

Oh god! Write off the money. It doesn't sound like fun anyway.

Dump their abusives arses and find new friends, please. They are not friends and will laugh at what they can get away with. 🍷

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 01/07/2017 08:31

I've dumped friends for much less than this. Op please respect yourself and ditch these scumbags

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 01/07/2017 08:32

You're not their friend, you're their amusement.

After this trip I would just cut them out, it's better to have no friends then have frenemies who humiliate for their own amusement.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 01/07/2017 08:34

Hi op. Hope you don't mind me asking but how old are you?

It feels like you're friends with these people because they're there. Not because you like them.

And you're going on this trip because it's something exciting to do - and all of social media shows people having adventures all the time so you're not normal if you're not also doing it!

I hope you stick up for yourself this weekend and they are nice to you. I really wouldn't go. They sound like users. Not friends at all.

You sound lovely. You deserve friends who look out for you. Who don't humiliate you. And just generally are nice to you. Ditch these guys as soon as you can. Concentrate your energies on finding likeminded people. A trip to Manchester will be so much more fun with people you like. Take care

Carrier bags and crates of cans - classy weekend ahead!

paddlenorapaddle · 01/07/2017 08:36

When you get there go to the front desk by yourself and say no drinks or concessions to be added to the room all purchases must be paid for in cash if you say that they can't add subs used to work in hotels

Do it as soon as you arrive

RandomDent · 01/07/2017 08:37

It can be the nicest place in the world but if you have dickheads for company you will hate it. Please please don't go.

Ellisandra · 01/07/2017 08:40

Would you like me to start a thread for you, ready to go for Monday?

"My friends treated me like shit on our weekend away and haven't paid me back for the hotel yet"

Confused

The answer to shitty so called friends is not "standing up for yourself". That's what you do when it's a shitty work colleague. When it's a "friend" the answer is to walk away.

MorrisZapp · 01/07/2017 08:41

Ok this is mental. You're loading up a car with beer to drive for four hours in order to have beer when you arrive in... Manchester? You do realise that you're going to go past about eleventy billion Asdas on your approach and that your beers are going to explode after that journey?

Is there some kind of mega cheap beer warehouse in the north of Scotland or something? Coals to Newcastle comes to mind.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 01/07/2017 08:45

Ellisandra I was just about to post that I doubt they will pay her back the full amount, if any at all.

alltouchedout · 01/07/2017 08:50

Bad idea op. I hope your trip goes well but you need to chuck those bitches asap. They're vile.

plominoagain · 01/07/2017 08:55

Oh op , I get why you're going , sort of . I used to think too that a particular set of bad friend were better than none at all . And I was wrong . You're not a friend to them love , you're the entertainment .

If you feel you have to go , then take what you can from the weekend , feel resigned to not getting the money back, then bin them from your life . You will find other friends that will treat you better .

namechangefox · 01/07/2017 08:57

Lowry is a nice hotel.

Have a word with reception and make sure your card is not to be used to pay the final bill. It's for holding purposes only.

Enjoy your weekend.

Then never have anything to do with those two weirdos again.

It's like the nasty girls at school. They won't miss you, they'll just move on - or turn on each other.

RandomDent · 01/07/2017 08:57

Oh god this is like couples who should have split up but stay together because they've booked a holiday. Talk about miserable.

Groovee · 01/07/2017 08:59

I hope it's a good weekend and that they don't treat you like shit. If they do, cut contact on the return!

Inertia · 01/07/2017 09:10

Your 'friends' are shits who are out to deliberately humiliate you.

namechangefox · 01/07/2017 09:13

And OP, DONT be the first at the bar, hold back. DO split the bills according to exactly what you had, and DO clamber into the front seat on the return journey and loudly exclaim 'MY turn in the front on the way back'.

And sing all the way home. Suck your teeth every time the driver breaks. Fart. Need a wee every 10 miles.

You will be able to enjoy this weekend now you've woken up to their shenanigans.

FlyingElbows · 01/07/2017 09:25

Morris they'll driving for considerably more than four hours if they're coming from the north of Scotland! It takes us about that long and we're twenty minutes south of Glasgow. Op why would you not just fly?

TwoLeftSocks · 01/07/2017 09:33

You deserve better than this.

ItsNachoCheese · 01/07/2017 09:47

They are ripping the utter piss out of you Angry seriously you deserve better friends than these 2 arseholes. Get rid of them and you will probabaly notice a big weight lift

Marmalady75 · 01/07/2017 09:47

Flyingelbows I'm guesyshe meant the north then clarified with Scotland. My dh regularly drives from the central belt of Scotland to Manchester for work and it's about 4 hours.

GabsAlot · 01/07/2017 10:29
