I've seen loads of threads on here lately with people questioning how people can be a certain dress size at a certain weight.

I'm really interested to se how much it can vary from person to person and if people who are the same weight and height could be completely different dress sizes as I suppose muscle mass is a factor too.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

I'll start it off:

Height: 5ft 4.5
Weight: 8 stone 12 lbs
Dress Size: 10

Size 18/20
Was over 20 stone the other year slowly losing 👍🙁🙄

Suebnm · 04/06/2019 15:22

I am 5 feet 3, and 6 stone 2. A size 4.

I am tube fed though and lost a massive amount of weight very rapidly when I first went on the tube feeding.

Hobbz · 04/06/2019 15:39

5'5''
11 st 4 lbs
Measure size 12-14

However, I wear a size 12 from most brands now (size 14 too big). I've been losing weight (still going) and last time I was a size 12 was 16+ years ago and I was a good stone lighter. I would've definitely been wearing size 14 at this weight back then.

CrunchyCarrot · 04/06/2019 15:56

Height: 5'10.5"
Weight: 8st 11 lbs (yes I am underweight and trying gain)
Dress Size: 14

soulrunner · 04/06/2019 16:26

5'7''
10st 10lbs
size 10.

Blobby10 · 04/06/2019 16:36

5ft 9"
Overweight (hovering between 12st 7 and 13 stones)
Depending on where I shop anywhere between a size 10 and a 20 but generally a 14

Which is quite bizarre as 20 years ago I was the same height but 11 stones and STILL a size 14 wanting to be a 10 or 12.

So for the nerdy mums, I've now processed all 20 pages of this gorgeous dataset and here is the formula you've been waiting for!

Your dress size is approximately 3 times your weight in pounds, minus your height in cm, plus 104, all divided by 33.

JoeNLHN · 10/07/2019 05:08

For example, if you are 5'6" and weigh 148 lbs, your predicted size is

(3x148 - 168 + 104)÷33 = 11.5

This number is accurate only within plus or minus 1.5 sizes, so you could be anywhere between 10 and 13 depending on your shape.

Zebraaa · 10/07/2019 05:16

Wow that’s very clever. I can’t even begin to understand how you’ve discovered that formula.

Freesunglasses · 10/07/2019 05:59

5ft 7
11st 6lb
Size 12

JoeNLHN · 18/07/2019 05:57

Zebraaa it's called two-variable regression :) Always a geek in da house, baby-brain or not.

cheeseandbiscuitss · 18/07/2019 06:46

5ft3
9 stone 1
Size 8

I've always found this surprising and think I should be a size 10 but they never fit and always come up too big.

crispysausagerolls · 18/07/2019 06:52

5”6
54kg/8.5 stone
Anywhere from a 6-10 depending on the brand, the garment type and how I want it to fit

Lovingthesunshine88 · 18/07/2019 06:59

5ft 3
10 stone
Size 10

Urbanvoltaire · 18/07/2019 07:54

Joes Calc says I'm a size 11

5 foot 8
65kg
Size 12 bottoms and 14 top as I've broad shoulders.

V impressed @JoeNLHN

hipslikecinderella · 18/07/2019 07:59

Amazing calc.
I'm 5' 5"
9 stone 9
Size 10 ish

SmallHope · 18/07/2019 08:07

Height: 5ft 1.5
Weight: 8 stone 12 lbs
Dress Size: 10 (I have clothes in size 6, 8 and the odd 12 too, so depends on style/cut).

I used to be 8 stone 5 lbs but since I began running a few months ago I've put on half a stone; I've lost half an inch and my clothes fit better. Muscle replacing fat maybe?

SmallHope · 18/07/2019 08:17

@JoeNLHN amazing calculator! I'd already said I was usually a 10 and your formula had me at 9.7 - very accurate!

You should sell the formula to online shopping sites Grin
