We live in a close of four houses on side of the road- it's literally our road and then the houses on the right hand side. Driveways can take 2 cars in all 4 houses.

Neighbour knocked earlier today to say they are going on holiday until Friday. Neglected to mention that family were coming and leaving their cars here.

Anyway one of these said cars is blocking DHs car in. We cannot get it out without me reversing mine, clearing some junk out of the garage so he can drive in to reverse sideways into my space and out.

Garage is full of shit. It's stuff we can't store in the house because it's damp etc.

AIBU to consider hiring a tow truck to get the car moved?? I'm going to have to take DH to work for 6am now Angry

Who called whom?

ChameleonCircuit · 01/07/2017 11:12

Even apart from any bereavement (which I am exceedingly sceptical about), who parks their car blocking a neighbour's drive and goes on holiday?! No-one deserving of any consideration. I'm raging on behalf of the OP.

wowfudge · 01/07/2017 11:17

It's not theft as they have no intention of permanently depriving the owner of it.

youarenotkiddingme · 01/07/2017 11:24

Wtf is wrong with some people?

I agree with getting it towed and making them pay for release

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 01/07/2017 11:25

Towing it to clear your drive =ok.
Towing it to lockup and asking for £30 to release =not ok.

Did you ring neighbour or did they ring you?

ShowMeWhatYouGot · 01/07/2017 11:53

I just don't understand how people have the cheek to do this :( how is it ok to block someone's drive

MrsHathaway · 01/07/2017 12:06

Towing it away from your drive to block holiday neighbours' drive (ie where they should have left it in the first bloody place) is one thing but removing it altogether is quite another.

I don't know what you think the lairy brother can do about the car until he gets back - presumably he now has your threat to remove in writing together with his rebuttal.

Please be very careful, OP, as two wrongs don't make a right and you could end up in serious trouble.

If the friend is a professional tower rather than a friend with a Hilux then s/he ought to know the relevant bits of the law and might have helpful and safe suggestions.

TSSDNCOP · 01/07/2017 12:18

£30 is cheap. Bullshit on the bereavement claim.

HappyFlappy · 01/07/2017 12:24

Ceto is right it probably theft

Not theft. Theft is the intention to deprive someone of their property (I believe) - not just make it awkward for them.

would shift it if I possibly could, if only to a legal place. I'm really surprised that the police or the council won't shift their backsides about it - perhaps it depends on how much serious crime they have on at the moment.

PrimalLass · 01/07/2017 12:44

I would just get it moved onto a double-yellow line so they get a ticket Grin

Michellelovesizzy · 01/07/2017 15:42

Happy flappy

I think it is theft and the £30 release fee could be seen as blackmail, I would really make sure your in the right on this one wouldn't risk it!

Michellelovesizzy · 01/07/2017 15:49

I really don't think members of the public can get cars towed and then tell the person they have to pay £30 to have it released from some random lock up that some guy owns!

LexieLulu · 01/07/2017 15:51

Would it be a police matter or a council one? I'm sure if you found a council number they would tow away? (Usually eager to get fines)

Michellelovesizzy · 01/07/2017 15:54

I think if the car is causeing an obstruction and the people can't get of there drive it's a police matter not council

K1092902 · 01/07/2017 20:20

Neighbour has returned!!! Will update when I can

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 01/07/2017 20:28

Maybe they read that the car would be towed!

mistlethrush · 01/07/2017 20:29

I'm surprised that you got no response whatsoever from the police

CotswoldStrife · 01/07/2017 21:13

Was the neighbour's car parked over a drop down?

BlessYourCottonSocks · 01/07/2017 21:53

I'm assuming you've been in phone contact with them as neighbour's DB has issued threats. My response would have been 'every fucking window of your car has been tanned in, mate. And your stereo's gone. Fucking kids around here...'

And then I'd have been out there at midnight making sure they were...

MipMipMip · 01/07/2017 22:08

Where did you see about threats Bless? Which page - been looking and can't find it. Thanks

ButtonMooooon · 01/07/2017 22:10

Mip today at 06:32. Not sure of page as I have load all pages on the phone

ineedwine99 · 01/07/2017 22:15

Placemarking Grin

Spadequeen · 01/07/2017 22:16

They parked like twats and now have to deal with the consequence. Doesn't matter that there has been a bereavement, this happened after parking like a twat.

Hope this evening went ok

K1092902 · 01/07/2017 22:19

DH is currently outside in the raining swearing very loudly as neighbour tries to manoeuvre the car. I'm sat in the window with DSD giggling with Wine
