We live in a close of four houses on side of the road- it's literally our road and then the houses on the right hand side. Driveways can take 2 cars in all 4 houses.

Neighbour knocked earlier today to say they are going on holiday until Friday. Neglected to mention that family were coming and leaving their cars here.

Anyway one of these said cars is blocking DHs car in. We cannot get it out without me reversing mine, clearing some junk out of the garage so he can drive in to reverse sideways into my space and out.

Garage is full of shit. It's stuff we can't store in the house because it's damp etc.

AIBU to consider hiring a tow truck to get the car moved?? I'm going to have to take DH to work for 6am now Angry

If I was you I would just clear the garage out!

Bloody hell. Your garage must be very different from mine. There'd be no "just" about it - more like a solid weekend of sorting with increasingly bad language...

TeacherPresent · 30/06/2017 17:11

How utterly irritating!

flapjackfairy · 30/06/2017 17:12

Dont know if anyone has mentioned that if the petrol cap is open by any chance it is considered a fire risk so the council must move it !
Just saying ...

Michellelovesizzy · 30/06/2017 21:20

Socksey

Sorry I missed the diagram, r they proper blocked in?

Michellelovesizzy · 30/06/2017 21:21

Mrs Hathaway

Would probably move some stuff from my garage before having one of my neighbours car towed sorry if that sounds abit to much hard work for you

MrsHathaway · 30/06/2017 21:59

Because those are the only two options?Hmm

Seriously though you haven't seen my garage. DH stashes all kinds of awkward and bulky things in it.

HiJenny35 · 30/06/2017 22:01

God yes it certainly does sound like a lot too much hard work for me, if someone's inconsiderate enough as to park over your drive then I wouldn't think twice about getting it towed. It's not hard to see a drop kerb and if you can't then you shouldn't be driving. Certainly wouldn't clear out my drive and have to manoeuvre around it while they were away due to their ignorance.

WaitrosePigeon · 30/06/2017 22:04

Op!!!

Michellelovesizzy · 30/06/2017 22:21

Really u would have your neighbours car towed??? Maybe if some random done it I would or if my neighbour was a wanker! But if this is the only thing they have ever done wrong my first instinct would not be to have there car towed!
By the way I am not saying ur wrong I might just be soft

Michellelovesizzy · 30/06/2017 22:22

I don't think these people have just park right over there drive and the op dose not seem to want to share a picture

Michellelovesizzy · 30/06/2017 22:24

Mr Hathaway

It seems that way get the car towed or empty out the shit from the garage!

K1092902 · 01/07/2017 06:32

Mumsnetters- I apologise for lack of update. Mixture of being super busy at work and having a poorly DD.

Neighbours and co have still not returned. Had v heated argument with neighbour yesterday as they said they were returning and didn't and won't be until Monday. Apparently they are away due to family bereavement and have had to extend their trip. Hopefully getting a friend of someone DH knows to tow the car today.

We got DHs car out and another neighbour very kindly allowed us to park it on their drive and have left their other car at a friend's house around the corner.

DH is most embarrassed that he had to use a pink Fiat for two days while I sorted the garage out to manoeuvre his which is an Audi Q7 so much longer and bigger than mine and takes up the length of the drive pretty much. RedSippys diagram is pretty much spot on

Police didn't show up. Didn't bother calling again as they clearly aren't bothered

Neighbours brother (who's car it is) has threatened to call the police if his car isn't here when he returns. DH has taken a day off on Monday especially Grin

StealthPolarBear · 01/07/2017 06:40

So did you ring them or did they call you?

MyOtherProfile · 01/07/2017 06:42

Please tell me you got lots of photos as evidence for when they come back and call the police and that you kept a log of your calls.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 01/07/2017 06:54

Can they just tow it to cover their drive not yours. Have slightly more sympathy if a bereavement but still they shouldn't have done it.

DestinationSofa · 01/07/2017 06:57

What was their reason for leaving it in such a stupid place ?

K1092902 · 01/07/2017 07:16

Plenty of photos and neighbour willing to make a statement if necessary.

should because we feel it more fitting they will have to pay £30 to get it out of the lockup this guy has as well as the tow fee

OP posts:
Ceto · 01/07/2017 07:23

I hope you told neighbour's brother you will be delighted for him to call the police and explain why he committed this offence.

Ceto · 01/07/2017 07:24

Towing it to a lockup and refusing to release it is seriously not a good idea. Just tow it down the road.

Collaborate · 01/07/2017 07:54

Even moving the car may be an offence - taking without consent.

Michellelovesizzy · 01/07/2017 07:56

Ceto is right it probably theft

ScissorBow · 01/07/2017 08:03

I'm all for that solution. Lesson learnt. I am always gobsmacked how people don't realise their shit parking affects others.

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 01/07/2017 08:43

What fucking dicks!

I'd have been raging. I came home
From work once and my BIL had blocked my drive by parking across it. He knew I was on. My way home

I wanted to shout and strop but didn't so I can only imagine how raging you are - FYI I did say to BIL if you're gonna block me off my drive you might as well have parked on the frigging thing. What's more enraging is that we could have put both his and mine in anyway

BewareOfDragons · 01/07/2017 09:17

I think this is where the UK falls down. In other countries, it would be towed and they'd have to pay a big release fee to get it back.

Inertia · 01/07/2017 09:38

Are you allowed to tow it away?? Surely that would be theft? Can't you just tow it to their own driveway?
