AIBU to think 37 isn't too old for a 3rd DC?

Hiya Smile

My first child was born when I was 29. I have always wanted a 4 year age gap, so the DC would be at school. I am 33 and have just had my second 2 months ago. We were lucky we got the age gap we wanted and I do know that.

I plan on another 4 years for the 3rd but if it doesn't happen, that okay and I'd rather have the 2 we have than another DC less than 4 years from now.

DH is claiming I'll be too old at 37!! Shock and we should start trying "soon"! Our second is only 2 months!

AIBU to think 37 isn't too old?

I'm 37 and my 3rd DC is 4 months old. It's fine.
But, I will be completely honest, I wouldn't want to be any older.

I hope not I hope to have my 1st at 37!

SheSaidHeSaid · 21/06/2017 19:29

Definitely not! I know plenty of people who have their first at that age.

I had my 3rd at 38! Now pregnant with my 4th at 41😳😱.

TinyTumble · 21/06/2017 19:37

1st at 38, 2nd at 40, 3rd at 41 (& 11 months). Delayed start due to difficulty conceiving. Healthy full term pregnancies.

MsJudgemental · 21/06/2017 19:38

I had my only DS through IVF when I was 38 and his dad was 47. If you can afford it and want it, go for it.

SparkyBlue · 21/06/2017 19:43

I had my first dc at 36 and my second dc at 39.

IloveBanff · 21/06/2017 19:47

I had my first and only at 37. No problems. I didn't even have morning sickness. She was born 4 days after the due date and was perfect. (She still is now aged 26 Grin)

ragdoll700 · 21/06/2017 19:49

I hope not im 38 and trying for our 3rd now.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/06/2017 19:49

37 isn't too old. But younger is better imo.

Crunchymum · 21/06/2017 19:50

I'm 37 and about 7 weeks. Not 'too old' by any means.

Crunchymum · 21/06/2017 19:51

It's my 3rd child btw

BoggledMind · 21/06/2017 19:52

No 37 isn't too old. I'll have just turned 37 when I have my second baby and we're planning on trying for a 3rd when I'm 38. I know so many people who had their first child after 35 and it is becoming increasingly common to have children later into your 30s.

Fairylea · 21/06/2017 19:53

It's such a personal thing. Lots of women have their first babies at 35 plus. For me personally, at 36 with two dc, I would feel too old to have another. I'm feeling older and tireder than ever!

imip · 21/06/2017 19:53

I had my 2nd at 36, 3rd at 38 and 4th at 40. This is nothing unusual in my area.

MsHooliesCardigan · 21/06/2017 19:53

I had my third at (just) 40. It was by far the easiest pregnancy and I didn't stop working until a week before he was born.

CaptainBraandPants · 21/06/2017 19:54

I had my first at 31, second at 34 and third at 38. It was fine, but the sleepless night were definitely harder third time round.

bonzo77 · 21/06/2017 19:55

Errr no! Had my 3rd 2 weeks before I turned 39. But be warned... don't try to plan your gap, start trying sooner rather than later because fertility drops off. Despite regular periods, all signs of ovulation and DH satisfactory sperm results, it took us 2 years of no contraception (18 months of serious trying) to get pregnant.

RippleEffects · 21/06/2017 19:55

Its not too old but there's plenty of info around about fertility as you get older and possible complications the older you get.

I had DS1 at 29 (1st cycle off the pill), DS2 at 31 (2nd cycle off the pill), started trying for DD a few years later and had four miscariages. The gap between DS 2 and DD is therefore 5 years.

Its really early days after having your little one, but maybe play through with your DH the practicalities of a few scenarios of life with a baby at 35, 36, 37, 40.

bonzo77 · 21/06/2017 19:55

Oh, and baby 3 was the easiest in every way!

ohbigdaddio · 21/06/2017 19:57

I'm struggling to conceive #1 and I'm 38. I thought I'd get pregnant easily (been trying for nearly 18 months.) You sound very organised - not a criticism at all - but I'd say life isn't like that and you never know what will happen.
Plenty do have children later on so of course you could be successful and have your 4 year age gap.

choccybiscuit · 21/06/2017 19:58

I had my third at 39

FlippinNorah · 21/06/2017 19:58

Had my third at 38. It was fine when he was little but I'm 53, he's doing GCSEs and I'm noticing that I'm starting to run out of steam a bit and he's not getting the same level of input/energy from me as his older siblings did. (5year gap). Also I'm starting to want my life back.

outputgap · 21/06/2017 20:00

Norah! Appropriate name, as now I'm scared. I'm 42 and dc3 is still a baby. Let's hope he can do his own revision plans, eh?
