To bake a cake with DD and take it to the mosque?

I know it's a tiny gesture in the grand scheme of things. But I thought maybe baking a cake for the worshippers to eat when they break their fast tonight might be a nice idea? We live a couple of minutes away.

It's just, in other terrorist attacks, there is an immediate outpouring of love and support. Athough it's early, there seems to be a lot less today. Coupled with the biased media reporting. Thought it might be a nice way of showing solidarity and love.

But are they going to be in mourning? Does it seem patronising? I'll absolutely accept if I am BU, please don't flame me.

"Can we stop with the comparing of whose terror sttack gets more coverage it's very distasteful and quite frankly incorrect."

With all due respect I would rather you didn't tell me my opinion.

I really do feel that SO FAR this attack hasn't been reported in the same way and there is absolutely a lot less of talk on FB (maybe that says more about my friends tho Sad )

The BBC news spent all morning talking about London and Manchester with no coverage of any other news but today they are now talking about Otters.

Trills · 19/06/2017 09:09

Yes, I understood that it was just your local mosque (even if I still decided to remind you of sundown, sorry Blush )

I still think it is nice and friendly and the opposite of what all the bastards want.

mowglik · 19/06/2017 09:10

OP it's a lovely idea, it's very common and a big part of Ramadan to exchange gifts of food with neighbours so this is a lovely gesture from a non Muslim neighbour. They will be touched I'm sure.

Re dates they will probably have loads, cake sounds perfect.

brexitstolemyfuture · 19/06/2017 09:10

How about baklava?

nomorebabiesyet · 19/06/2017 09:12

Yes very nice idea. Just be careful with vanilla extract as pp said re alcohol.

nomorebabiesyet · 19/06/2017 09:13

Dont worry about dates. If you want to do it then make something you would make your own family. They will be so greatful x

Whatthefoxgoingon · 19/06/2017 09:13

I'm sure any food will be absolutely fine. Lovely gesture. Anything we can do to encourage greater unity and harmony among communities has got to be good!

Trills · 19/06/2017 09:14

Just bake something that you are good at baking, don't worry about whether it's the "right kind of thing".

If someone brought you some baklava at Christmas you wouldn't complain that it was not mince pies, so nobody is likely to be disappointed by your lemon drizzle.

icelollycraving · 19/06/2017 09:14

mrspeely I meant as they are celebratory not that they aren't eaten!

notanevilstepmother · 19/06/2017 09:14

A cake is a lovely idea. Cake

Foniks · 19/06/2017 09:14

Lovely idea. I'm pretty sure they'd be happy and not feel patronised at all. At time like this, it's beautiful to show solidarity above anything else. You probably already know many Muslims feel vilified for things beyond their control, and there have been awful things said on social media about "they deserved it" this will be wonderful for them to see that no, doesn't matter what is being said online, here in the real world we care.
You're a lovely person op.

wizzywig · 19/06/2017 09:16

Lovely idea op. Im sure they would really appreciate any goodies, or a card perhaps if you think they are overloaded with food

Goingtobeawesome · 19/06/2017 09:17

What bias?

Ifailed · 19/06/2017 09:17

I think a lovely, traditional cake is a great idea, it shows that although we may not share the same religion and cultural background, we are all the same really and it sends a message of support.

ICJump · 19/06/2017 09:19

Pretty sure all my Muslim friends would happy accept your cake.

purits · 19/06/2017 09:21

There will also be a female section in the Mosque and you may find that when you deliver the cake you'll be greeted by one of the women who attend the Mosque

How lovely.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/06/2017 09:22

I have felt really heartened by the way that whole communities have supported each other in the aftermath of terrible events.

Cake is always a good idea isn't it? Do it OP.

originalbiglymavis · 19/06/2017 09:23

No need to be nippy. When I was a kid we had separate girl's and boys playground.

Hulder · 19/06/2017 09:23

I think it's a lovely thing to do.

Every Muslim colleague I've known has been a big cake eater Smile

I wouldn't take stuff they already have like dates, or traditional foods (they will have bucketloads of these) - surely the point is coming from a different culture and showing solidarity?

I'm sure the op didn't take s cake to church. The point is that many Muslims (and Sikhs and Jews and other groups) pitched in with help and support when those attacks happened and op just wants to find a way to express her solidarity and support now. Not exactly crime of the century to want to do that is it?

Ifailed · 19/06/2017 09:27

Suprasegmental
What a mean post. Wildly reported, the level of attacks and general Islamophobia is on a rise, this event highlights it. I think the OPs idea is a lovely way of showing support to her neighbours.

AdoraBell · 19/06/2017 09:28

Cakes are not purely for celebration OP and this sounds like a lovely idea.

PixiePopPops · 19/06/2017 09:28

*I seems a bit "look at me".

Did you take a cake to a church after the last time a Muslim person did something bad?

I haven't seen any biased reporting. Things like "suspected terrorist incident" and "large white male" are the two quotes I remember from what I've read.*

That's what I was afraid of. But I feel my solidarity with humanity against ISIS is pretty much a given. Today, people ARE writing 'they deserve it' all over social media (fucking scumbags, idiots playing straight into ISIS hands). I feel like solidarity isn't a given today, as heartbreaking as that is.

Also, I'm surprised you haven't noticed the biased reporting. See the attached tweet.
