To bake a cake with DD and take it to the mosque?

I know it's a tiny gesture in the grand scheme of things. But I thought maybe baking a cake for the worshippers to eat when they break their fast tonight might be a nice idea? We live a couple of minutes away.

It's just, in other terrorist attacks, there is an immediate outpouring of love and support. Athough it's early, there seems to be a lot less today. Coupled with the biased media reporting. Thought it might be a nice way of showing solidarity and love.

But are they going to be in mourning? Does it seem patronising? I'll absolutely accept if I am BU, please don't flame me.

Ahh that's nice OP Smile

You are an absolute star!

Really you are. And your little DD

BitOutOfPractice · 19/06/2017 13:27

Love and cake has won! That's great!

starfleet · 19/06/2017 13:32

We like cake. And dates. And tins of Quality Street/Celebrations.....Smile

It was a very kind and thoughtful gesture Pixie.

disastrousflapjack · 19/06/2017 13:38

Really glad you went ahead. It's such a small thing to do but such a powerful and lovely one. Flowers

glueandstick · 19/06/2017 13:46

What a lovely thing to do. Well done.

See if we all forgot about colour/religion/feelings about Star Wars then it would all be ok. Live and let live :)

IloveBanff · 19/06/2017 13:50

That's lovely, OP.

stoplickingthetelly · 19/06/2017 13:50

I think the cake is a lovely idea. Baking it yourself rather than just buying something shows that you have really thought about them because it takes more time and effort.

NameThatPrune · 19/06/2017 14:09

Please don't be put off by some of the replies in this thread OP. You're suggesting making a lovely gesture at a time a community has been violently victimised.

Whatever you take along doesn't really matter- you are showing caring and solidarity which really really matters and thank you so much for doing that. And it is great to take your DD with you.xxx

GeekyWombat · 19/06/2017 14:17

A lovely idea. I think biscuits are more immediately practical (less need for cutting, plates, napkins etc) but the idea behind it is fab.

bambambini · 19/06/2017 14:24

Lovely idea OP, i imagine it must be difficult to be obviously muslim after the recent events. I did wonder if folk would feel comfortable with a home baked cake from a stranger but sounds like it went well and was much appreciated.

OnnaNoHito · 19/06/2017 14:39

Glueandstick - thoughts about Star Wars? If one of my friends ever turned out to be a prequels fan they'd be out of my life faster than the Falcon made the Kessel run Wink

I'm glad the cake went down so well, Op. If anything, the more people who go into their local mosque to show support, the more people will see that the Muslim communities who worship there are lovely, friendly and welcoming!

WaitrosePigeon · 19/06/2017 14:56

Because of this thread, I did it too OP. I've just got back. They were so welcoming and kind.
I was a bit nervous going into 'their' place but I had no need to be. Really nice people.
So thanks, OP. Glad you went too Flowers

Sorry, missed that you already had! That's really lovely OP.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 19/06/2017 15:16

Pixie and Waitrose - you're both amazing people.

RedStripeIassie · 19/06/2017 15:19

Ahh that's nice. Glad you did it

LesLavandes · 19/06/2017 15:22

Such a lovely thing to have done OP ❤️

mateysmum · 19/06/2017 15:22

Perhaps cake is the way to change the world!

It's all rather nice and British isn't it - a cake with of course , a cup of tea and the world seems a better place.

SapphireStrange · 19/06/2017 15:24

Beautiful gesture, OP. Good for you and your DD.

StatelessPrincess · 19/06/2017 15:29

Pixie & Waitrose, you have both made my day reading this thread, thank you x

TequilaSunshine · 19/06/2017 15:35

Read the OP and thought it sounded like a lovely idea. Just read the rest of the thread and seen you went ahead and it was well received.
How lovely. Also the other poster who went on the back of this thread too.

everybodysang · 19/06/2017 15:35

this is nice. I think we might do the same later this week.

I wonder if Sadiq Khan thinks it "is part and parcel of living in a big city" still., because it isn't and never ever should be thought so. Not in our cities anyway.
