AIBU?

To bake a cake with DD and take it to the mosque?

I know it's a tiny gesture in the grand scheme of things. But I thought maybe baking a cake for the worshippers to eat when they break their fast tonight might be a nice idea? We live a couple of minutes away.

It's just, in other terrorist attacks, there is an immediate outpouring of love and support. Athough it's early, there seems to be a lot less today. Coupled with the biased media reporting. Thought it might be a nice way of showing solidarity and love.

But are they going to be in mourning? Does it seem patronising? I'll absolutely accept if I am BU, please don't flame me.

Get some fruit, like a platter of grapes, dates, cherries, maybe almonds too etc, that way there won't be any issues with those who keep halal strictly who might not be able to eat cake otherwise

The cake was delivered yesterday and went down a treat.

An absolutely beautiful idea... yes do that, they will be very pleased. You can give it to them in the daytime and they will save for the evening.

We went to a meal at a local mosque and they were so caring and generous.

Pennina Unless a cake contains alcohol or meat products (like the amazing cheesecake I had once that turned out to have pork derived gelatin in it) it's halal Smile
I keep coming back to this thread, its been so positive and heart warming. A lot of people, both Muslim and non Muslim are feeling really on edge these days and it's such a nice reminder that most people are actually kind and decent, I really do think that gestures like this, which might seem small to some, can have a big impact.

Surely it's nice for it to keep being bumped though, maybe others will be inspired to spread cake love as well Smile

Ooh, that kind of thing really annoys me. It's not something I've ever been aware of until lately, but since dh went strict vegetarian, you notice stuff like that!
Pork gelatin in certain breakfast cereals, sweets etc.
Just why?!

As a muslim I think this is a lovely idea and IMO would not be seen as a "celebration" cake. Our fast breaks at around 9.30pm but check your local mosques timetable (you can usually see it online) as Im in the midlands so the times may vary x

I know, I find it quite odd Tequila I suppose it's cheap and effective and not enough people care to warrant a change unfortunately.

As a Muslim I think it's a lovely idea. Thank you OP. In the spirit of Ramadhan I've been sharing food with my non-Muslim neighbours. It's been really well received. A bit of love goes so far ❤️

Sounds like a lovely idea!

We always make something for our Muslim friends for when they break Ramadan and they're always appreciative.

Now more than ever I imagine they'd be very welcoming of any gesture of solidarity or friendship.

I think everyone's been feeling a bit raw the last few weeks. All these attacks and all the scaremongering really do not help at all. Sharing love with a bit of food is just the best thing ever. OP and all the other posters who have shared food with their community you are amazing. Let's hope everyone does this and gets to know all the people around them.

I have no mosques nearby otherwise I'd be cake baking as well.
Or Muslim neighbours. Otherwise they'd be getting cake too. Smile

Missed the comment saying youve already made and delivered itBlush really happy we have people like you in the world OP and im so shocked at the negative comments on here that it wouldnt be welcomed, its that kind of attitude that creates a divide.

Same, I'm with you there. I'm not seeing how it can be construed as anything else but a kind gesture, and obviously people feel the same regardless of their religion/colour/background given the majority of posts on this thread.
Muslims have come on to say it's lovely, and is well received.
Less of the divide, more of the coming together.

Apparently she brought a cake to a fire station today - I'd just read about it before seeing this thread. Made me giggle but was obviously just me. As you were.

And for the record, I think it's s lovely thing to do, OP (and Adele) and I'd gladly join in if I could bake!

Ah, sorry, been staying away from the news for the past couple of days so missed that one! Smile
Seeing as you say Adele took a cake yesterday, and this thread was posted the day before, maybe Adele's a secret Mumsnetter?
Maybe she's on this thread...
