To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

OP posts:
Lweji · 17/06/2017 09:41

there will be a list somewhere with details of the number of people officially resident in the block

But nobody knows who was in there at the time.
Visiting.
Subletting

Or out and unaccounted for because they don't know yet that people are looking for them.

Authorities will get there, but it's too soon.
Surely it's not hard to understand this?

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 09:41

Handbag yes I think you have it there. What a difficult situation

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 09:48

A journalist posed as a relative to get into hospital to interview a survivor but they're too principled to speculate on the number of victims?

Someone will be paying council tax on each property and combined with tax, ni, school and NHS records it should be possible four days after the tragedy for someone in authority to say that provisionally they estimate the loss of life to be in the region of ... I find it massively disrespectful to all concerned that is not happening.

Papafran · 17/06/2017 09:50

Maybe the media learned from overestimating the numbers in 9/11 not to be so quick to jump in?

Excuse me while I snort. Um, where the hell have you been during the Leveson inquiry? And did you see the horrendous article by the DM claiming to have identified 'the person who caused the fire'? The day after it happened, with a photo of him, without verification from anyone of the actual cause of the fire.

You are totally twisting what I am saying about lists. We might not have exact figures due to subletting etc but an estimated 600 people were thought to be inside. Anyone who is reported missing must be presumed to have died.

Eyewitness accounts also suggest a slow response to the fire and dangerous advice for residents to stay inside their flats rather than escaping, leading to them being burned to death.

stargazer2030 · 17/06/2017 09:52

I have just watched the interview. She is obviously very emotional. Yes I think she is speaking without thinking but her hearts in the right place. How awful to get the knives out for her like this.
I would much rather see heartfelt sentiment like this than the polished to within an inch of their lives interviews many celebs give.
To say you hate her for this is just so wrong.

Papafran · 17/06/2017 09:57

Authorities will get there, but it's too soon. Surely it's not hard to understand this?

No, that is not the point. The papers are not coroners or an official inquest. But the way they frame their reporting influences public opinion of the tragedy. If they downplay it and later release official figures or release them in dribs and drabs, it lessens the impact. That is why the residents and people on the ground are angry- their experiences are not being reported fully. They are told 'well we don't know that more than 17 died' by reporters, when they have had to stand outside the building for hours, watching loved ones and children screaming from the windows before succumbing to the fire. They know full well that more than 17 died. I suspect that the majority of bodies will be incapable of identification anyway.

Yes, someone might have been away that night, but it's extremely likely that anyone who lived there and who is unaccounted for is no longer alive and should not be presumed to be on their hols (presumably in a place with no phones or media).

Ipigglemustdie · 17/06/2017 10:06

Yanbu. Can't stand her. And when she forced some fake tears out and apologised for England bombing Syria that time ugh

ChickenVindaloo2 · 17/06/2017 10:08

She grinds my gears/boils my piss as well. Her personality and her music. I also dislike Gwyneth Paltrow.

I think it's because I find them patronising and trying to hard to be "cool".

Clavinova · 17/06/2017 10:13

I am sure that Lily Allen is horrified by the loss of life at Grenfell Tower - how could anyone not be?

However
She has a twitter account lily#labourtine and last year she tweeted;
"I have no faith in the Labour Party. You should have spent the last few days taking advantage of conservative weakness."

She has been a self-publicist since her teens and her new album is due to be released this month (June 2017).

Those poor families affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower have spoken more eloquently than Lily Allen ever could despite her variously attending private schools such as Bedales, Millfield and Hill House School (Prince Charles' old prep school).

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 10:22

These are horrific events -Manchester, London terrorist attavjs and now this dreadful fire.

These are major incidents and we are talking only a few days since it happened. peolkes expectations of what the authorities can provide in terms of accurate information are so unrealistic.

They will be following established procedures around identification, care of families etc. Identifying survivors may also be difficult.

They don't need this additional pressure from social media and celebrities. Why not just let them do their job. The idea that there is some cover up is nonsensical. It's slrsFy horrific no 'cover up' is going to make this easier for anyone in authority. There is no point in a cover up.

But this all takes time, the emergency services are poorly resourced and I'm sure many people -people like you and me - have been working all the hours they can to give relatives the information they need.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/06/2017 10:25

I still agree with papa

I dont think its a conspiracy as such but i think the tack officials are taking is wrong

You would have to be fucking stupid not to realise that the death toll is large

And it infuriates people to be treated like idiots,

I appreciate its hugely difficult but an official acknowledgment of the scale would possibly be in order

I am probably wrong though

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/06/2017 10:28

I have been avoiding the media reports so if i have made a glaring mistake in my post I apologise in advance

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 10:29

Perhaps what we are seeing is a lack of leadership over this. People want reassurance from a leader -the PM - that they will get justice. Absolutely. I can understand the district of the authorities. But I think that battle will have to be fought in the months to come.
Those poor people Flowers

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 10:29

'Distrust'

Violetcharlotte · 17/06/2017 10:30

Lilly Allen lives close to Glendale Tower. She's speaking out and using her profile to voice what local people are saying.

Violetcharlotte · 17/06/2017 10:31

*Grenfell

Bloody autocorrect!

Puffpaw · 17/06/2017 10:35

Lily is very irritating. Maybe she does genuinely care, if so help out with the volunteer efforts and let victims and people like Dany Cotton do the talking when it comes to what happened. It is crass for her to speak as she did, it comes across as self promotion adn virtue signalling and detracts from the real issues.

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 10:37

It's not the emergency services that should be providing a provisional number, it's the council. They've had several days to provide a provisional number, not a list of people guaranteed to have been there, but a provisional number. I don't understand why people can't see how disrespectful it is to not even acknowledge the potential number of lives lost and how cruel it is to keep a tiny spark of hope for relatives and survivors. How can you possibly begin to start any kind of processing if the authorities won't even provisionally acknowledge your loved ones even existed?

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 10:41

handbag when have you ever seen a case like this where the authorities released a provisional figure? They don't do it for a reason.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/06/2017 10:41

I agree handbag

Thats what i am thinking but i am struggling to write it

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 10:42

Yes I see that Handbag

The local authority is conspicuous by its absence here. And you wonder if they actually knew how many people were housed there. I'm shocked that families with very young children were housed in these high rises. I know other Local authorities have tried not to do this -that was 15 years ago though and it seems things have changed a great deal since then. Sad

I'm wondering how long TM will last

Terfing · 17/06/2017 10:45

I believe she lives in the Cotswolds? I read that on Twitter, so take it with a pinch of salt.

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 10:50

There hasn't been a case like this though has there? Do you not even exist until you've been identified by a coroner? There will be people there with no family to report them missing and may never be identified. To not acknowledge they lived there is horrific. It's inhumane.

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 11:07

It is horrific. But this is the reality of a fluid population in high density housing some of which is privately rented out to whoever.

And as I said before it is really early days and you do not know what work is going on behind the scenes with relatives before more information is released to the media.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 17/06/2017 11:23

I find at baffling that after such a few horrific few weeks people have the will to post 'yeah I hate her too '

Don't get me wrong there are many celebs and public figures that annoy me !

But I don't have hate in my repertoire of emotions today .
