To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

"Pointless person"

She's a mother, so no, not pointless whatever you think of her actions.

Boomcack · 16/06/2017 20:18

Sometimes people don't like it when truth is spoken. She put her neck on the line. Just because you don't like the messenger doesn't make the truth less true

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 20:27

pointless person?!

Wow.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 20:30

Can you tell us more about your 'pointless person' comment?

I'm really interested in the thinking behind it.

GinSwigmore · 16/06/2017 20:34

Big yellow
The woman Amina you referred to then went on to talk about how muslims would see the police response to the fire as revenge for recent terrorist attacks so highly unlikely you would be seeing her on QT.
Her interview (starts 4 minutes in) :
transcript for the first section before the highly contentious revenge comment:
www.reddit.com/r/unitedkingdom/comments/6hf82u/bbc_interview_with_local_resident_amina_giving/

She and the bloke both mentioned number of child fatalities who have no one to speak for them/next of kin not available. They were both of the opinion there were chances to get residents out had the ''stay put'' advice not been adhered to.

as for Russell Brand he came up with this project and saw it through:

NameChanger22 · 16/06/2017 20:38

I really like her and her music. She's trying to help people. Most people in her fortunate position don't bother. I don't know why you could attack anyone that wants to help others. There are some seriously evil people in the world, go after them.

Smellbellina · 16/06/2017 20:40

What is it about posters on MN being so very keen to SHUT PEOPLE UP.
Fuck off!

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 20:42

boomcack where did you get the impression I don't like the truth? As for a disgrace, that's a bit over the top. I'm commenting on my opinion of someone else, which were all entitled to do. If you are a fan of LA why not come here with facts of her positive actions instead of slating me as a disgrace... just because I don't like someone...

OP posts:
Boomcack · 16/06/2017 20:44

This is a nasty post, you 'hate' her??? Really?? A woman you dont know?? Based on what exactly?? Urrrgh

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 20:47

I'm not saying she's evil, or a cunt, or a bitch, I'm saying I DONT LIKE HER. She's only involved when she thinks she can reap the benefits (mostly publicity) and never A) has all the facts before she starts spouting and B) thinks about the actual victims of the atrocities she's talking about and C) understands that her voice is NOT the voice of the many.

Honestly, if your friend turned to you and said ooo not really keen on Rita Ora would you label them as a disgraceful woman hating terrorist sympathising compassionless bitch who has no sympathy for the dead? Didn't think so. You'd give your opinion and move on.

Simon Cowell doing a charity record is nothing new incidentally (He also arranged Everybody Hurts a few years ago for Haiti. He was asked to do that by Gordon Brown. I really don't think he needs the publicity).
There is also going to be a Stand up comedy benefit too. Having seen who's on the bill, they don't need the publicity either.

I've seen this type of thread many a time on MN: Lily Allen, Tess Daly, Jack Monroe, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amanda Holden, Russell Brand amongst others. There are always reasons to take against someone but the same person will always have good points.
in Lily Allen's case I believe she was very brave to talk about her stillbirth and about her stalker (she was stalked for seven years iirc) and allowed therefore more light to be shown on those two topics. For those two examples alone I am grateful to her.

Sparklingbrook · 16/06/2017 20:59

Yes more's the pity.

As for that list of slebs I struggle to see some of their good points at all.

GinSwigmore · 16/06/2017 21:08

Oh and James Corden. One on him just the other day.
Not sure any sleb annoys me to the extent I could be bothered to start a thread though. Except Tayto (Never forget! ;-)
It all comes down to the idea of those in the public eye/those who court publicity being ''fair game''. I prefer the Thumper's Mum approach to most things and at least Lily doesn't flounce off twitter every five minutes, bless her. (Looking at you, Stephen Fry).

And I like at least four Lily Allen songs including:

This is bloody good to line dance to :-)

user1480459555 · 16/06/2017 21:11

Boomcack, Thanks to Lilly Allen the press etc are being more honest about the death toll.

Really? You honestly think Lily Allen has had a major influence on the press?

The numbers of dead are being released as and when they are identified nothing to do with Ms Allen.

Oh and another reason I dislike her is that she absolutely ruined that Keane song "Somewhere only we know". I loved that song until she screeched her way through it

Boomcack · 16/06/2017 21:11

It's obvious from the title and the initial list his nasty you wanted the thread to be OP. Shame on you

GinSwigmore · 16/06/2017 21:13

There's always something positive.
ooh and it was Thumper's Dad!
He says a lot, Thumper's Dad, who knew?

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 21:14

Gin excellent first post! Totally agree there are good and bad points. Anyone who doesn't need the publicity remain private and tasteful with the help and support they give. Anyone needing the publicity usually clings on to half truths and anything else they've heard just to have something to say which unfortunately I have seen so many times from Lily

ClappingThighs · 16/06/2017 21:15

Haha user last bit made me giggle!

boom eh? What?

OP posts:
ocelot41 · 16/06/2017 21:17

I understand that the police and journalists can only give the numbers of confirmed dead. Given the numbers missing, its likely that that number will go much higher. But given the intensity of the flames and that many children were in residence, we may not ever know the full toll. Its horrific. I don't blame Lily for trying to point that out. RIP to all victims.

GinSwigmore · 16/06/2017 21:18

did someone say Shame on you?

This thread usually goes btw as it is not deemed in the spirit of MNHQ...

GinSwigmore · 16/06/2017 21:26

Correction, she did flounce off social media once. Ah well.
She was there at 2.30am and helped out so I still think YABU I'm afraid.

Theimpossiblegirl · 16/06/2017 21:35

YABU
Good for her for using her fame to raise awareness of what has happened. Pretty sure our current Government would rather everyone involved quietly went away and people didn't comprehend the absolute horror of the fire at Grenfell Tower. It's not going to happen, this needs to be kept public and open to stop it from happening again. Decisions have been made by people in charge of housing, funding and regulations that have directly contributed to the death toll.
