To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

birds no they weren't invited onto Newsnight, because Lily Allen was instead. If she cared, she'd have said 'no, I don't want to, I want this person to go instead'.

The rest of your comment doesn't have anything to do with Lily Allen, but I agree with you. It is political.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 11:39

How do you mean 'grow up'?

user1480459555 · 16/06/2017 11:55

"Grow up" surely means to stop acting like a spoilt child wanting attention all the time. Also to keep her mouth shut when she clearly knows little about whatever subject she is shouting about.

Not only does she think she knows it all, she also seems to think she speaks for the whole country. Her comments about refugees, the Calais camp and, particularly, Brexit are NOT my views nor the views of most of my friends and family

notknownatthisaddress · 16/06/2017 11:59

I don't hate her, but I find her a ridiculous and pointless little oik.

She never had any talent, she got famous because her dad is famous, and she is a cheeky little cow for apologising on behalf of her country to those people in Syria. I don't know who she thinks she is but she makes me cringe. I wish she would fuck off.

notknownatthisaddress · 16/06/2017 12:01

As some people have said, if she loves the refugees SO much, then why does she not take some into her home.

Or give up all her money for them?

These celebs fuck me right off, whining about how we should all give give give, and and then fucking off back to their very middle class, very white, posh Berkshire villages.

HandbagKrabby · 16/06/2017 12:03

It's important voices are heard whether we like what they're saying or not. So many arseholes are not talking who have played a part in this, save your ire for them.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 16/06/2017 12:05

Most of those people who let go of the hands of their children and their neighbours children in the blackness, who are now dead, are going to need the nonexistent MH services that "there wasn't a magic money tree" for (TM to a Nurse)

Birds I had to pop to the loo and have a cry after reading that, you have nailed the horror. what a fucking week

re numbers, I think she and they are just frustrated with reports saying "20 dead" when we all fucking know that there are bodies that might never be recovered, I cant articulate it but saying such a small number in such definitive terms minimises it. I am tired and emotional today

MomtoOneMarvelousBubba · 16/06/2017 12:11

Erm really littleblack raise awarenessHmm it's been all anyone anywhere: newspaper tv radio has talked about since the blaze began. No one needs stupid lily Allen jumping on the bandwagon drivelling on

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 12:14

There is a woman on the BBC right now who can't find her mum and other relatives.

She is calmly talking about her search.

I would much rather have her opinion than Lily Allen's.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 12:17

As some people have said, if she loves the refugees SO much, then why does she not take some into her home.

Yeah, I know a social worker, she never takes the sick babies into her home!

There's this dentist who loves teeth and he never works at the weekends!

Teachers who don't teach children all the time. Make me sick.

I know a charity worker who lives in a big house!

DISCUSSTINGGGG

Her comments about refugees, the Calais camp and, particularly, Brexit are NOT my views nor the views of most of my friends and family

Ah, I see.

nina2b · 16/06/2017 12:22

An irritant whose views are of little consequence.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 12:23

histiny She did say she going to take refugees in and since then refuses to answer any questions about it, though.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 12:26

AFAIK, I think its quite complicated to take in refugees on an individual basis.

I just think its very interesting that someone who is compassionate, emotional and engaged is so loathed.

Nailed it.

frenboop · 16/06/2017 12:29

I think she is awful and actually a bit dangerous for suggesting the death toll has been deliberately suppressed for political gain. What a horrible, self-serving thing to say.

frenboop · 16/06/2017 12:31

"she raises awareness"

Grin Grin Grin

thank god I heard her talking about it otherwise I would never have known that there WAS A FUCKING MASSIVE FIRE IN TOWER BLOCK IN LONDON and people have died.

Hmm
sleepingdragons · 16/06/2017 12:36

Some really nasty people, shpwing their true colours here.

Lily Allen is at least trying to do something. You seem to want her to get back in her box and just sing pop songs.

I'm encouraged to see she's bothering to try to do something about it.

What are you doing about this issue apart from having a pop at people who are trying to help?

frenboop · 16/06/2017 12:37

What is she trying to do to help exactly?

IdontTrusther · 16/06/2017 12:38

I dont like it being turned into a political event.

how long has that block been un safe for? the last long gov we had was actually labour - when did the blogs start under which government and even then just because the blogs started in year x doesn't mean the building was safe prior to that. she is using this to get political leverage in because she is brain washed in some strange way - thats why i am not keen on her speaking out right now.

KERALA1 · 16/06/2017 12:39

Of all the characters related to this atrocity you "hate" lily Allen? Not the MPs that voted against upgrading social housing? Very odd.

frenboop · 16/06/2017 12:42

No it should not be a political event.

Both parties and both governments are at fault here

if it is the cladding then the true fault lies with the manufacturers who said it met safety standards and clearly lied.

nina2b · 16/06/2017 12:42

She is not trying to "help" in any way whatsoever. In actual fact she is trying to help herself. She thrives on the oxygen of attention.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 16/06/2017 12:47

The residents had been fighting for action for years. Their fears were ignored, and they were even threatened with legal action! They couldn't afford action themselves because of the cuts in legal aid.

Someone gave the go ahead for a tower to have millions spent on refurbishment then wrapped it in flammable casing. Someone didn't care that there was only one exit. Someone didn't care that the fire alarms didn't work. Someone didn't care that even the emergency lighting didn't kick in.

What do you mean it isn't political?

alltouchedout · 16/06/2017 12:49

I really have no time for the predictable "this shouldn't be about politics" bleating. On twitter I saw this:

People shouting "don't politicise this tragedy" as if whether people preventably burn to death in their houses isn't a matter for the state and I 100% agree with the sentiment.

McTufty · 16/06/2017 12:54

alltouchedout

I agree with the sentiment but I am unpersuaded at this stage (though I may turn out to stand corrected when more info comes) that this wouldn't have happened if Labour has been in power, and I think it's the party political element that isn't helpful.

Clearly the state has failed and every discussion needs to be had about that but that this tragedy was the fault of this Tory government isn't quite as clear yet, at least based on what I've gathered.
