Don't need education to march...try it

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 23:35

Yep exploding...curious why marching is such a threat..

silkybear · 15/06/2017 23:36

I think the march on the 1st july is going to be too late. Owen jones is holding a march this saturday, have a look at his social media. With brexit talks starting monday and Qspeech wed, now is the time. If i could get up there I would.

Antigonads · 15/06/2017 23:36

So the police have a choice between policing a peaceful march or dealing with a terrorist incident? Give me strength.

But hey, think of the overtime chaps.

silkybear · 15/06/2017 23:37

Im not saying dont go to the 1st but if you can make this weekend as well i think it will send a stronger message xx

PoohBearsHole · 15/06/2017 23:38

Sorry, I'm asking the poor what? If they would prefer to have a private education or if everyone should be able to access an equivalent education. If we don't want an us and them situation.

Lovestonap · 15/06/2017 23:38

"The country is in a terrible state. Resources are overstretched. Therefore we cannot allow you to safely protest the state of the country. For the sake of the tired, demoralised, underpaid emergency services please do not protest the current system......"

Yeah ok then... Seems fair Grin

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 23:40

Pooh create another thread if you want to talk about that

Silky can you post a link...I might be in town this week

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 23:41

Anti are you planning an attack that weekend then?

SilverdaleGlen · 15/06/2017 23:41

#ToriesOut is not really a march with a point other than to overturn (yet a fucking gain) a majority decision. So the election wasn't a run away success but they got the most, they can form a government. No March is going to change that so PLEASE people give the emergency services a fucking break.

Do something specific or achievable, march for more beat coppers, march for that fucking cladding to be stripped off every building, he'll join forces and go rip the bastard stuff off yourselves. But don't stamp and shout pointlessly against an election already won.

FreeNiki · 15/06/2017 23:42

And tantrums in person and on mumsnet

GrumpyGreta · 15/06/2017 23:43

These 'Tories Out' marches mostly annoy me because they are just lots of shouty people shouting about not getting their own way. Reminds me of a child having a tantrum because they didn't get the toy they wanted.

The country voted. That's the fairest way that I can see of finding out who should be in charge. Get over it and try again next time.

time4chocolate · 15/06/2017 23:43

Well Peregrina, let's just hope then that there won't be a terrorist incident or other such emergency then on 1 July because there won't be the police available to deal with it, they will be elsewhere. I am fairly sure they would rather be elsewhere saving lives than standing around collecting bunches of bloody flowers (excuse my language)

PoohBearsHole · 15/06/2017 23:44

Not saying you need an education to march, march all everyone wants but I'm not sure we can expect a result from doing it. From past marches and what they've achieved.
I'm not saying marching isn't worth a shot but lobbying your local mp for change would also be a good use of time Smile

CrossWordSalad · 15/06/2017 23:44

Anti are you planning an attack that weekend then?

I don't think I've ever read a worse post on MN

GrumpyGreta · 15/06/2017 23:44

freeniki clearly on the same wavelength!

Isawesausittingonaseesaw · 15/06/2017 23:45

Thanks OP - good to know which weekend to go away!

PoohBearsHole · 15/06/2017 23:47

As I said earlier I derailed the thread, I also APOLOGISED for that. But the democracy that allows us to march also had the info) majority.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 15/06/2017 23:47

Why is it an issue to any of you if you don't believe it

If Corbyn wins the next one I will not have an issue with you marching...if any of you can be added to get up off your sofas

Tis your democratic right

BillSykesDog · 15/06/2017 23:47

Grenfell. Police cuts. Fire cuts. NHS cuts. Oh and poor and black lives matter

This is exactly what I mean. You've also mentioned austerity, the election result, the DUP...I'm sure there will be other things too. It's just totally ineffective because it's an unfocused general umbrella movement for discontent where people turn up, get angry and go home. They never achieve anything because nobody is ever sure what exactly they want, just that they're angry about lots of stuff and they don't like it when people disagree with them.

What do you hope it will achieve? What do you think it will achieve? It's very unlikely it will result in a democratic vote being set aside. It's very, very unlikely to convert people to the cause. They probably won't even be very clear what the cause is.

It's counterproductive because a general protest about not getting your own way just makes you look like entitled bad losers. It's like a huge toddler tantrum.

Oh and getting personal weakens your own argument because it makes you look like you can't actually think of a decent argument so resort to insults instead.

Lovestonap · 15/06/2017 23:47

For the people who say they are tired of politics, I am ashamed to confess that only now, in my thirties am I awake to the fact that politics is EVERYTHING and EVERY DAY! Not just once every 5 or so years.

To argue that caring about politics is distracting from real human pain doesn't understand that every single tragedy has its roots in a political decision somewhere, whether we are talking about terrorism, health and safety, access to health care etc.

And anyway, look on the bright side, with Trump's decision not to come to UK that's one less march they'll have to police (and that would have been a real humdinger!)

explodingkittens · 15/06/2017 23:47

Oh, a meme. Excellent Hmm

silverdale, the link I posted was written before the events of the last couple of days. I think it's highly likely that the focus will be very much on recent events and the appalling derelictions of duty regarding basic respect for ordinary people's safety that are now coming to light.

MInor not info Blush

Antigonads · 15/06/2017 23:47

Pegrina said For the police it would be the chance of overtime pay, so which do you think they would prefer - policing a good natured demonstration where the protesters gave them flowers, or having to deal with a terrorist incident or this appalling fire

So fuck off with your comment about me planning an attack.
