Anti Austerity might mean and end to the freeze on public sector pay freeze ( while DUP are bunged 2 billion, MPs voted to massively increase their pay? 33 % or more?! )
Or simply having to pay an extra £ couple of thousand on cladding for social housing so it was safe/complied with EU regulations ( so glad Brexit will cut all that needless red rape?) & therfore didn't act as an inferno?!

FriendPlease · 01/07/2017 22:30

Maybe it was a chance for people to show that they oppose any more austerity measures by the government. I would say anti austerity is to Invest more on public services in a way that benefits the public (so not just to invest more in reports and committees or to line the top managements' or contractors's pockets). I think we can all agree that after about a decade of austerity measures,a lot of people are doing really badly and are a hell of a lot worse off and they must be getting fed up now. Austerity hasn't worked, we've given it a go, it doesn't work, time to try something different.

hackmum · 01/07/2017 22:32

Completely bizarre idea that people shouldn't exercise their democratic right to protest to save the police from having to work overtime. There really are people who have no concept of democracy.

Stopnamechanging · 01/07/2017 22:33

There really are people who do pointless things without consideration to recent past events. Selfish comes to mind.

It looks like the march was useful already:

Thanks again OP Flowers

hackmum · 01/07/2017 22:36

Also, all those people who were getting angry because you were sure the march was going to be violent...you're now getting angry because it was a good natured march with people singing and laughing and having a good time. Do you realise how stupid that is? I suppose by definition you don't.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 01/07/2017 22:38

Failing to see the anger, just bewildered exasperation.

Stopnamechanging · 01/07/2017 22:38

No, I just think that you don't give a shit about anyone else. It was pointless

To remind you of the protest march in London on July 1st?
applecatchers36 · 01/07/2017 22:49

Yes you are right, it's pointless drawing attention to the fact that at best Austerity hasn't worked (those books still not balanced) and probably has contributed to the deaths of? 100+? At Grenville tower.. At the very least shall we just brush under the carpet the disability / fitness to work assessments/ deaths?!

That is separate from the huge cuts in NHS, Police, social care, Housing services...you reap what you sow...

Best to ignore it all after all am sure you will need never need, health, Police, social care etc..?!

oldtrees · 02/07/2017 00:02

'30,000 excess deaths in 2015 linked to cuts in health and social care'

Commenting on the analysis, co-author Professor Danny Dorling, from the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford, said:

"It may sound obvious that more elderly people will have died earlier as a result of government cut backs, but to date the number of deaths has not been estimated and the government have not admitted responsibility."

everthinkyouvebeenconned · 02/07/2017 00:03

So where were the little snowflakes interrupted in their shopping today?

The rest of you bilious lot Alka Seltza all round

Great day for the marchers...and oh we didn't riot.....Get a grip bilious peoplr

oldtrees · 02/07/2017 00:05

Co-author Professor Martin McKee, from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, added:

"The impact of cuts resulting from the imposition of austerity on the NHS has been profound. Expenditure has failed to keep pace with demand and the situation has been exacerbated by dramatic reductions in the welfare budget of £16.7 billion and in social care spending. With an aging population, the NHS is ever more dependent on a well-functioning social care system.

The possibility that the cuts to health and social care are implicated in almost 30,000 excess deaths is one that needs further exploration.

Given the relentless nature of the cuts, and potential link to rising mortality, we ask why is the search for a cause not being pursued with more urgency?"

This is from Oxford Uni and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine - hardly a left wing think tank.

everthinkyouvebeenconned · 02/07/2017 00:08

I suggest all those 'worrying about our services think about the facts

Doh! That would be too simple

AwaywiththePixies27 · 02/07/2017 00:10

If you're that concerned about hard pushed police officers having to police a peaceful march you can always check whether your local MP voted to keep their pay capped the other day. Hmm

everthinkyouvebeenconned · 02/07/2017 00:11

1% people but that's ok yeah?

Those evil tories killing people again. I'll transfer my attention back to the grown ups.

Two professors from Oxford University and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine sound pretty growon up to me.
