People's Assembly

For those of us who are sick and tired and angry and devastated.

In my days of left wing political activism we used to think that the answer was to argue and debate and win people over to our political ideas.

Same story here.

Those debates are why I am no longer left wing, and this is the problem - left wing politics do not stand up to harsh scrutiny and debate, they are grounded in unanswerable fallacy and have absolutely been refuted by history.

This is why the modern left relies on emotional thinking, sloganizing, violent rhetoric, disengaging from and dehumanizing the other side as "scum", and so on. It simply isn't in the interests of some organizations to enter into good faith discussion of politics and expose their ideas to the harsh light of question

Dehumanizing the "other side" and pretending they are "evil", and there is "no point even speaking to them" is a ploy used to stop people speaking to each other and exposing the truth, and it's only bad behaviour and bad ideas that need to hide behind that.

It's worrying to say the least when this translates into re-running votes until the "correct" answer is given

Lots more worrying when austerity cuts in one of richest countries in world result in lots of deaths and people needing to use foodbanks.

Perhaps the current debacle will stop politicians calling vanity elections. It seems to backfire.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 10:29

Cross Why Is it that important to you? I do know an awful a lot about them

Prey tell. Why are the allegedly formerly left wingers on this thread now so glad they can turn their back on the poor? I've not met any previously left wing activists that arent currently mortified at what is happening

But I guess this is a forum where anyone can make anything up

NerrSnerr · 16/06/2017 10:35

'Why are the allegedly formerly left wingers on this thread now so glad they can turn their back on the poor?'

Has anyone said they're turning their back on the poor. There are different ways to help/ support/ contribute. Just because someone chooses not to march or doesn't agree with a particular march it doesn't mean they're not doing anything.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 10:40

That is not what PP said Nerr

My point was specifically in regard to left wing debate not being persausive enough being the reason they are no longer LW

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 10:41

It was not unfortunately about the march as most posters would rather derail to score pinprick points

makeourfuture · 16/06/2017 10:47

Always and forever towards a better world!

Always and forever for the many, not the few!

We can do this! And we will!!

pipsqueak25 · 16/06/2017 10:47

'champagne socialists' - i thought labour was supposed to be a workers party or does it just apply to communism ? all these so called socialist anti capitalist types will be there then with their smart phones and bling then, my ex neighbour used to bang on about how proud he was to be a socialist then went and bought a porsche Confused, - he was a bit of a tosser admittedly.

makeourfuture · 16/06/2017 10:48

Heal this Nation....or get out of the way and let those who can get on with it!

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 10:50

pip what? I have a smartphone so I can't want a better world for all?

What am I allowed to own then?

Freddystarshamster · 16/06/2017 10:53

Punch ups and arrests on marches usually happen when EDL are present. Last time I looked they were extreme right wingers, not a leftie among them

No but they're vastly outnumbered by the extreme left who counter March. Have a guess which group causes more violence/has a higher arrest rate

BillSykesDog · 16/06/2017 10:55

Always and forever for the many, not the few!

Except when it comes to election results...

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 10:56

I can't have a Porsche? Or a smart phone. Don't tell me no flat tv's either!

Can you send me the list of what I'm allowed and not allowed in order to be a socialist.

PS I have been to Cuba. Surely that counts

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 10:57

We will march we will sing we will join together

And we will be there for the many not the few

makeourfuture · 16/06/2017 11:00

Growth not failed austerity.

Safety not fear.

Plans, not over the cliff.

everthibkyouvebeenconned · 16/06/2017 11:02

bill, it wasn't Labour who called a snap election last month because they didn't like the result (not enough seats) of the last one.

But you know that.

Love the idea that you can't oppose the govt and own a smartphone. You couldn't make this stuff up.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:08

bill

You aren't serious, right?

Good god.

explodingkittens · 16/06/2017 11:08

Oh Bill ffs. Posting pictures of nazis? Come on.

I rest my case. You couldn't make this right-wing shit up.

BillSykesDog · 16/06/2017 11:10

Actually, Labour very much approved the plan:

BillSykesDog · 16/06/2017 11:12

Of course I'm serious. There are huge, huge historic parallels with the Nazis and how the hard left are behaving now.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:12

Well if they hadn't bill they'd have been accused of 'blocking democracy'.

BigYellowJumper · 16/06/2017 11:13

Sorry bill but comparing a peaceful protest to Naziism is beyond far-fetched.

How ridiculous.
