The other night DP received this message from his DF:

'So, Fathers' Day Sunday. I've just treated myself to a new watch. £13 between you three.' ( DP has 2 siblings)

Now I know it's not a lot of money but I'm fuming, I'm hoping it's a joke. I just find it so rude! We don't get DF anything for Father's Day usually except this time I've got DP a mug and cider as it's his first one this year.

I know I'm probably BU to be so annoyed I just find it so fucking cheeky!

Yes just give him £13 and tell him he's worth more then £13 but you don't have enough cash

nina2b · 14/06/2017 17:44

All this angst over £13? Good grief.

I dont get some of the responses on here.

How many threads are there on here about abusive parents, people being told to go nc with their parents, hell there is even a whole topic on it. But yet on this thread the OP is being told that her dh should buy his father a present because its his dad. Not all parents deserve presents and not all parents would send that text as a joke but more of a demand.

I agree!!
Even if he's an arse, tell him to round it up to 20 and buy himself a beer

cricketballs · 14/06/2017 18:04

How often does your DP contact his Dad? Do you expect something for mother's day?

This is something that both sides of our family does and to be honest it's a life saver!

StrangeLookingParasite · 14/06/2017 18:24

Bluntly, I'll do you a swap; my Dad passed away 2 years ago and I would run over the Pope to have another hour with him

Not the point. Why do people do this so often?

haveacupoftea · 14/06/2017 18:31

If someone wrote here that they have adult children who only got them a card for Mother's Day and they don't hear from them often the standard response would probably be to buy something and send a message to them saying how much they owe! Poor old FIL.

sassylocks · 14/06/2017 18:34

I'm not getting my DF anything either, we're saving for a wedding and let's face it, it's just a made up day for shops to boost their profits

^^ This, I completely agree op. A nice card is plenty for Father's Day!
