I moved house recently into a lovely little road of 24 houses. It's a very well established area, and I thought it might be a nice idea to get to meet all the neighbours by inviting them to drinks and tea in the garden on 25th June

Thing is, it's a fortnight now since I put the invitations through the doors and I've not had even one reply (I've not upset them, honest ... I haven't been here long enough, even if I'd wanted to Wink)

I absolutely get that folk are busy and that not everyone RSVP's these days, but since I've not had even one reply I'm wondering if I should just forget the whole thing - I really don't want to decorate the garden, make tea for a crowd and then be sitting here alone

Please can anyone advise the best thing to do?

OP, you sound absolutely lovely. I don't suppose there's an empty house on your street which I could move into before the weekend by any chance...? 😊

I hope you have a fabulous party. The food sounds perfect. Enjoy! WineBrewGinCake

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 19/06/2017 20:38

Aw, what a lovely ending to the thread! Though I hope you come back to report the party was a great success. Smile

CaptainHammer · 19/06/2017 20:54

Great outcome! Hope you have a lovely time :)

Jamhandprints · 19/06/2017 21:02

Sounds lovely! People won't eat much out of politeness so don't spend too much time/money on food. Enjoy! X x

Stillwaitingforsummer · 19/06/2017 21:27

Sounds lovely, though you may now have to uninvite your friends that you invited in case nobody turned up to make space Grin

SugaredSocks · 24/06/2017 22:43

Hope you had a lovely day Flowers

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/06/2017 22:48

Thanks, Socks, but it's tomorrow Wink

I keep refreshing the weather forecast like a loon ... there are now about 30 coming and the blasted weather people can't seem to decide whether it's showers in the morning only, all day or what!!

Anyway, fingers crossed ...

Hope the weather holds out!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2017 11:58

Showers here already and heavy rain forecast at 3pm, right when it's due to start

Oh dear ...

How did it go? Did they turn up? Hope it went well for you.

HillaryWinshaw · 25/06/2017 17:55

I hope it was a barnstorming get together, OP. I love having (and being) a neighbor like you!

Leeds2 · 25/06/2017 18:42

Hope you had a great time (and possibly are still having a great time!) and that you got to know lots of your new neighbours.
Also that the weather was kind! It rained where I am very early this morning, but the afternoon has been glorious, so hoping the same thing in your neck of the woods.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/06/2017 19:00

The last one's only just gone, and I want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who held my hand through this Flowers

I had just over 30 people here, only 5 of whom were friends in the end, so 25 people from 14 replies isn't bad at all ... seven sent regrets eventually, and three never replied at all

The weather could have been better with just a bit of drizzle, but it didn't put anyone off and absolutely everyone was talkative and very friendly; all said they appreciated the idea and that they'd had a great time (tea certainly went down very well too Smile) So all in all I'm glad I did it now - they seem a really nice group of neighbours (even if they give me heart failure by not replying for ages!!) and I feel even more "at home" here now

Again, warmest thanks to everyone who supported me - I really do appreciate it

Fab and now you've set the scene for some great neighbourly relations in the future.
Glad it went so well.

PotOfYoghurt · 25/06/2017 19:11

Lovely! So glad you had a nice day and I hope there are many more to come. It sounds like a very nice community.

CaptainHammer · 25/06/2017 21:42

So glad it went well for you in the end OP :)

Nodowntime · 25/06/2017 22:08

Very glad to hear it went so well, am definitely encouraged to do something similar once we move! :)

KERALA1 · 26/06/2017 10:42

Sorry to be smug but knew this would happen. Brits seem odd about rsvping to laid back events but usually turn up (ime anyway). Well done op!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2017 10:59

Very small postscript to it all: several neighbours have asked if I'll be doing another one next year

Oh god!!!!! Shock Grin

honeyroar · 26/06/2017 11:30

Did you reply "no it's your turn next year!"😄

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2017 13:12

Honeyroar Unfortunately, like so many of these sensible replies, that only occurred to me afterwards Wink
