To think it's a bit pathetic to start a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition and the losing team should just accept it?

So now there's a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition!

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-results-dup-conservative-theresa-may-petition-deal-northern-ireland-a7783021.html

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country? Labour LOST. Do people not get that? May might need to go into Coalition with the DUP to form a Government as she was 8 seats short of a majority, but she still got over FIFTY SEATS more than Corbyn. And Sturgeon slagging off Theresa May can pipe down too. SNP lost over 20 SEATS, (that went mostly to Conservative!!!) So she has no right to be up on the moral high ground!

Moreover, the whingeing left-wingers would not be moaning and griping if Labour had gone into a coalition with the DUP. It's a case of May can do no right in the eyes of some.

It was the same with the EU referendum. We're not happy with the democratic result of the people, so we will start a petition! And then it turned out 10's of 1000's of signatures were fake!

Why can people not just accept the result? Let's face it, if Corbyn had won, the people who aren't so keen on him would have sucked it up!

And also, let's not kid ourselves; Corbyn got many of his votes by promising the world on a plate, you name it, he was going to deliver it. Free this, free that, benefits for everyone, free uni fees, free school meals, bedroom tax gone, ESA assessments gone, benefit cap gone. Baby unicorns, and a million pounds for everyone!

No WAY would he have been able to deliver what he was promising, and many people know that.

Then after 5 years of undoing EVERYTHING the Conservatives have done, the economy would be screwed, Conservatives would have got back in, and they would have had to spend five years sorting it out. Leaving us in a worse position than we are in now. Do people not get that? Are they so blindsided by this ruggedly handsome urban hero promising the world, that they can't see what a monumental fuck up he would have made of the economy?

I think the young were entranced by him, as he became an urban hero, and was engaging and charming and likeable, whilst May was awkward and stiff. Anyone who said anything against Corbyn, and showed support for May was lambasted.

This ludicrous petition is not going to change anything. Conservatives won. They are going to go into a coalition with the DUP. May is not going to resign. Deal with it.

Goadyfucker 1/10.

LauraMoon · 10/06/2017 11:49

Plenty of Tory voters are also appalled at May getting in to bed with a homophobic, anti choice, creationist party. It's not just us lefties.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/06/2017 11:49

So OP, you are happy for the two factions in NI to take.up arms again? Because that is where this is heading.

MaximaDeWit · 10/06/2017 11:49

Sod off

Op do you understand that the Tories did not win either?

ilovesooty · 10/06/2017 11:52

Oh. How interesting.

There is so much to argue with in this I'd hardly know where to start - if I thought it were worth my time.

You're not remotely interested in debate.

Code42 · 10/06/2017 11:52

If "plenty of Tories" are opposed to it, where have they been for the last two years? There's been an informal agreement since 2015. OK, though the DUP offered to continue that yesterday, it seems like it's going to be formalised - but this constant outrage is wearing.

I didn't vote Tory - or DUP - but I firmly believe that a nation gets the government it deserves. That's democracy for you.

Boynamedsue · 10/06/2017 11:53

It's not about losing. It's about the homophobic, misogynistic, creationist, fraudulent DUP being in a position to make demands of the prime minister in order to back up her minority government.

Please read up on the DUP, they're like something from the dark ages and plenty of Tories are outraged by it too.

HTH

Carollocking · 10/06/2017 11:54

👍

Thisarmingman · 10/06/2017 11:54

Labour would never have gone into coalition with the DUP. The DUP not only have links to terrorist organisations but some of their members are actually members of such organisations. Plus they are repressive, bigoted and anti libertarian and as such will be asking for repressive, bigoted and anti libertarian laws to be passed here on the mainland as part of the deal. That's what the petition is about.

This coalition goes totally against the Good Friday Agreement and could well result in the troubles starting up again.

I don't know what it is about us whingeing lefties that we don't want to see another forty years of war in a part of the UK

HerOtherHalf · 10/06/2017 11:56

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country?

Petitions and protests are just as much part of the democratic process as voting is. Do you only agree with the democratic expression of opinions when they agree with yours? Now that really is undemocratic.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 10/06/2017 11:56

🖕🏻goady fucker.
You know fine well that Labour would not crawl into bed with the DUP-you have seen their atrocious policies I take it? And no one outside of NI voted for these Neanderthals.
Arf at "ruggedly handsome" though.

Thisarmingman · 10/06/2017 11:57

And actually the tories didn't win - that's the whole point of them doing the deal.

So now we have a prime minister who has twice been given that office without being elected.

Boynamedsue · 10/06/2017 11:58

And it's a very different situation to any informal agreement there may have been before. TM needs DUP now which puts them in a much stronger position. When she had a majority government any agreement was just a nice to have.

noblegiraffe · 10/06/2017 11:58

There are many people who aren't Labour supporters, including those who voted Tory who are horrified at the prospect of the DUP holding the balance of power.
And many people who are worried about what this will mean for Northern Ireland.

If you think this is just a sore loser thing you need to look into the politics more carefully.

TheSockGoblin · 10/06/2017 12:00

On the point of them having had an agreement since 2015 with the DUP, I don't feel like this has been very well publicised over the last couple of years. The fact that every major national newspaper ran articles to explain who the DUP are and their policies etc in the last 24 hours seems to back this up?

Also the DUP said that they would support the Tories as long as Corbyn was leader of Labour which sugggests they would never go into a coalition with him. They're a very right wing party, why would anyone on the left seek a coalition with them?

Offherhead · 10/06/2017 12:03

OP. You may well be delighted with the DUP; you may be thrilled to live in their society. Nothing on earth is going to allow me to not exert myself through whatever legal means to block/ delay/ obstruct those hate full; misogynistic; anti education; anti health mongers from influencing policy.
If you believe that to be sour grapes that is a reflection on your understanding of the situation.

LakieLady · 10/06/2017 12:03

The day I accept that bigoted fuckwits like the DUP should have a role in government will also be the day I shoot myself.

SoupDragon · 10/06/2017 12:06

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country?

Nobody voted for a Tory/DUP coalition. Not one single person.

You might be happy for a party that is anti abortion and anti LGBT to have any kind of power but I am a far nice person than that.

allegretto · 10/06/2017 12:06

The DUP weren't even present for any of the campaigning in England, Scotland and Wales so no-one really knew anything about them - and yet, there they are in a very important position! Not really democracy, is it?
