To think it's a bit pathetic to start a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition and the losing team should just accept it?

So now there's a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition!

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-results-dup-conservative-theresa-may-petition-deal-northern-ireland-a7783021.html

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country? Labour LOST. Do people not get that? May might need to go into Coalition with the DUP to form a Government as she was 8 seats short of a majority, but she still got over FIFTY SEATS more than Corbyn. And Sturgeon slagging off Theresa May can pipe down too. SNP lost over 20 SEATS, (that went mostly to Conservative!!!) So she has no right to be up on the moral high ground!

Moreover, the whingeing left-wingers would not be moaning and griping if Labour had gone into a coalition with the DUP. It's a case of May can do no right in the eyes of some.

It was the same with the EU referendum. We're not happy with the democratic result of the people, so we will start a petition! And then it turned out 10's of 1000's of signatures were fake!

Why can people not just accept the result? Let's face it, if Corbyn had won, the people who aren't so keen on him would have sucked it up!

And also, let's not kid ourselves; Corbyn got many of his votes by promising the world on a plate, you name it, he was going to deliver it. Free this, free that, benefits for everyone, free uni fees, free school meals, bedroom tax gone, ESA assessments gone, benefit cap gone. Baby unicorns, and a million pounds for everyone!

No WAY would he have been able to deliver what he was promising, and many people know that.

Then after 5 years of undoing EVERYTHING the Conservatives have done, the economy would be screwed, Conservatives would have got back in, and they would have had to spend five years sorting it out. Leaving us in a worse position than we are in now. Do people not get that? Are they so blindsided by this ruggedly handsome urban hero promising the world, that they can't see what a monumental fuck up he would have made of the economy?

I think the young were entranced by him, as he became an urban hero, and was engaging and charming and likeable, whilst May was awkward and stiff. Anyone who said anything against Corbyn, and showed support for May was lambasted.

This ludicrous petition is not going to change anything. Conservatives won. They are going to go into a coalition with the DUP. May is not going to resign. Deal with it.

Ah, post-Brexit deja vu. 'You hate democracy because you're exercising your democratic right to join a peaceful march or sign a petition.'

Rants like this always give the impression that the OP is very quietly anxious about the actions of her supported party and consequences of their actions. It's very 'everyone SHUSH, if you keep picking holes in this then the problems are going to be too obvious. JUST SHUT UP AND WE'LL BE FINE'.

For self-declared winners, they seem edgy as fuck and desperate that no one should question anything.

PortiaCastis · 10/06/2017 12:31

Thanks OP I've just signed as Im not against abortion

JamieXeed74 · 10/06/2017 12:31

When you dangle so much free money in front of Corbyns fanatics they get worked up into a frenzy. They aren't going to let democracy stop them from getting something for nothing.

TreeTop7 · 10/06/2017 12:32

I'm not leftie. I'm centrist. But like all lefties and many Tories I'm appalled by the DUP's anachronisms. I am struggling to "accept" this turn of events OP.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:33

Also OP. Getting a bit pedantic here but it wasn't 8 seats TM was short of. It was 12.

JC didnt promise to get rid of ESA assessments. He promised to make the fairer.

If you're that interested in democracy then you should understand that people have a right to disagree with the decision. Tis democracy after all.

Ylvamoon · 10/06/2017 12:35

So, I get it nobody voted for a coalition.... apparently the conservative have not won the election (???) that leaves Labour to do what exactly?

Because, politically this country is in a huge mess! (All thanks to a certain David Cameron who jumped ship...)

The decent thing for the two main parties would be to form a massive coalition. Get Brexit sorted, get the terrorist threat under control and let us get on with our lives till the next general election in 3years time.
Unfortunately, some massive egos can't do that, leaving the country divided on every level and making the UK laughing stock of the EU and the rest of the world.

(And yes, such big coalitions have been done successfully in other countries... )

Odd that. Funnily enough no one could explain to me where May was going to get the BILLIONS, not millions, BILLIONS of pounds, into Housing and Railway on the last thread. Transpires JC weren't the only one offering baby unicorns then

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:37

ARumWithAView yes it's as hilarious as the free speech crowd. They want to exercise their right to what they want to say but don't want others to be able to exercise their right to disagree with what they say. Grin

Thanks for sharing OP.

Good to promote this.

Also OP. Getting a bit pedantic here but it wasn't 8 seats TM was short of. It was 12 Confused

She was actually only 4 short of a working majority and 8 short of an absolute majority. Check your maths.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:41

Ylvamoon No Labour didn't win. So they can't form a minority government. Conservatives didnt technically win either, not by a majority anyway. If she won by a majority, she wouldn't need the DUP to prop her up. The DUP joining, if they do, means she can form a government and get on with it.

All Labour can do is make their political life hell, making sure he tries his damndest to block every thing they disagree with. Which I'm sure he will. Never mind eh? It'll be good practice for May before the Brexit talks, she may even turn up to these. Grin

BabsGanoush · 10/06/2017 12:41

plenty of Tories are outraged by it too. Yes, I'm livid. I think Ruth Davidson is the future of the Tories and TM goes and does this. I couldn't vote for her again. Nobody is talking about Ruth's success and the fact Indy2 is now dead. So what will Nicola S. stand for as she was a one trick pony?

sorry, rambling now....

Trouble is Labour is no better - JC literally had no support from within his party a few months ago, now Labour MPs can't be more 'united.

Cocklodger · 10/06/2017 12:41

Away
Are you sure? The majority she needed was 326 she had 318 so yes 8 seat short unless I'm missing something.
She inherited 12 seats from DUP mind, are you confusing that perhaps?

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:42

Thanks Jamie. I'll send an email to the news channels to tell them they were wrong.

surferjet · 10/06/2017 12:42

Labour lost.
This was a victory for Jeremy Corbyn no doubt about it, but most of his party don't like him, so I'm not sure what the Labour Party as a whole feel about it? Corbyn is 'old labour' real labour if you like, & voters have really warmed to him, particularly the young. But where do they go from here? how many in his own party deserted him and said he'd be the death of the party? how are they feeling now? where do they see labour heading?
Once the party dust has settled Labour have more problems than the tories.

Cadenza1818 · 10/06/2017 12:43

Totally agree op

TheNaze73 · 10/06/2017 12:43

YANBU. Socialists are very poor losers.

It's just so hypercritical banging on about them being so anti gay marriage. Most of my Muslim friends are also against gay marriage but, that seems to be conveniently forgotten.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:44

Yes Babs. Anna Soubry is furious too. But of course it's all these stupid lefties complaining Confused

Ruth is lovely isn't she!

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 10/06/2017 12:45

I havent yet spoken to my tory father yet

(He has a bit of a thing about strong tory women, loved thatcher)

But i will bet he is furious as well...not keen on links to terrorist organisations you see

AwaywiththePixies27 · 10/06/2017 12:45

YANBU. Socialists are very poor losers.

Well that's a turn up for the books. I've never known disagreeing tories to be described as socialists before.

LuluJakey1 · 10/06/2017 12:47

OP - you sound charming.

Boynamedsue · 10/06/2017 12:47

surferjet Do you really believe that being opposed to religious fundamentalism, the breakdown of the NI peace process and the abolition of LGBT and women's rights is the preserve of the left wing?
