To think it's a bit pathetic to start a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition and the losing team should just accept it?

So now there's a petition against the Tory/DUP coalition!

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/election-results-dup-conservative-theresa-may-petition-deal-northern-ireland-a7783021.html

Why can people (generally left wing) not accept democratic decisions in this country? Labour LOST. Do people not get that? May might need to go into Coalition with the DUP to form a Government as she was 8 seats short of a majority, but she still got over FIFTY SEATS more than Corbyn. And Sturgeon slagging off Theresa May can pipe down too. SNP lost over 20 SEATS, (that went mostly to Conservative!!!) So she has no right to be up on the moral high ground!

Moreover, the whingeing left-wingers would not be moaning and griping if Labour had gone into a coalition with the DUP. It's a case of May can do no right in the eyes of some.

It was the same with the EU referendum. We're not happy with the democratic result of the people, so we will start a petition! And then it turned out 10's of 1000's of signatures were fake!

Why can people not just accept the result? Let's face it, if Corbyn had won, the people who aren't so keen on him would have sucked it up!

And also, let's not kid ourselves; Corbyn got many of his votes by promising the world on a plate, you name it, he was going to deliver it. Free this, free that, benefits for everyone, free uni fees, free school meals, bedroom tax gone, ESA assessments gone, benefit cap gone. Baby unicorns, and a million pounds for everyone!

No WAY would he have been able to deliver what he was promising, and many people know that.

Then after 5 years of undoing EVERYTHING the Conservatives have done, the economy would be screwed, Conservatives would have got back in, and they would have had to spend five years sorting it out. Leaving us in a worse position than we are in now. Do people not get that? Are they so blindsided by this ruggedly handsome urban hero promising the world, that they can't see what a monumental fuck up he would have made of the economy?

I think the young were entranced by him, as he became an urban hero, and was engaging and charming and likeable, whilst May was awkward and stiff. Anyone who said anything against Corbyn, and showed support for May was lambasted.

This ludicrous petition is not going to change anything. Conservatives won. They are going to go into a coalition with the DUP. May is not going to resign. Deal with it.

Totally agree Ravenblack. It's all rather brattish isn't it. I'm not happy with the outcome, wanted Tory majority, but there we have it. Don't we all just want some stability now? Time to calm down and make the most of a bad situation.

PastysPrincess · 10/06/2017 13:03

You have a very odd definition of winning. May called the election to strengthen her mandate on the Brexit negotiations and has ended up having to get into bed with anyone who will take her to remain in power. No party actually won the election; the whole country has lost.

Just so you know, I didn't vote Labour Grin

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/06/2017 13:03

Oh dear. The DUP would never support Labour.

@TheNaze73

YANBU. Socialists are very poor losers.

It's just so hypercritical banging on about them being so anti gay marriage. Most of my Muslim friends are also against gay marriage but, that seems to be conveniently forgotten.

VERY good point. Funny that innit?

As I said,if LABOUR had joined forces with the DUP, it would have been 'CORBYN is such a legend oh yeah!!!'

The left wing comedians fuck me off too - last night's Leg Leg was a prime example. Very anti Tory, and mocking May and her supporters. Fucking pathetic.

@surferjet

Fantastic post op, I agree with every word. But this is leftwing mumsnet so you'll get the usual ridiculous responses.

I know! But it's fun reading them. Smile

And of course highlighting obvious facts means I am deluded, goady, a cunt, a troll, thick, have no thinking or comprehending powers, and I hate all gays and muslims.

"Who said Labour won?"

Loads of people are claiming it. PLEASE don't pretend you have heard people assuming it? PMSL!

@Maleo

Thanks Maleo. Seems we are in a minority on here though.

"May isn't going to resign and you are not going to get your own way, no matter how many 100's of 1000's of probably fake signatures appear on the petition."

You might want to talk to the Tory MPs who are currently calling for her resignation. Quite a few of them and quite vocal.

surferjet · 10/06/2017 13:06

Boynamedsue
No of course not.
But millions upon millions of people on this planet are anti abortion & anti gay marriage - if that's their religious belief than that's their religious belief.

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/06/2017 13:08
Hmm
Ravenblack · 10/06/2017 13:08

The hilarious thing is that the Corbynites cannot see that they caused this coalition.

A Tory majority would have been far better.

It's going to happen.

Get over it.

I'm a Labour supporter. I instantly accepted from the number of seats they gained that Corbyn couldn't bring together a coalition/propped up government. I was very pleased with their gains, and certainly see that as a 'win' though. Most thought this was the end of Labour, nice to know it's a Phoenix rising from the ashes.

I also accept Theresa May doesn't have to quit. She should, but I can also see how the country is already unstable enough without losing our PM 9 days before Brexit negotiations begin.

I will not accept the DUP as part of my government. They are disgusting and go against all British morals and values. Politics is no place for religious extremism, especially when we are trying to wipe it out of society. Awful choice, though looks like May finally united the people through anger of who she's got into bed with.

cricketballs · 10/06/2017 13:10

Thanks for the info - petition signed Grin

Pagwatch · 10/06/2017 13:10

Ravens lack

Lots of people of no particular political persuasion are really worried about a Tory DUP coalition because it really really does threaten the Good Friday agreement.

I wish people would step outside party po,itics to focus on how problematic this is.

It changes the dynamic in the delicate negotiations between the DUP and Sinn Féin which were suspended during the election.

It places the Tory government in the position of being the mediator in these difficult negotiations whilst utterly dependent upon the DUP.

That is hugely problematic. It's not a party political problem.

That is before we even turn to the Brexit negotiations where the Tory party will be negotiating about the Irish border whilst totally dependent upon the DUP

PLEASE stop trying to score petty points over the fragile peace in NI
This is really a problem

Nope

Its your complete inability to see that tory voters are unhappy and that just because someone doesn't agree with you it doesn't make them either left or a labour supporter which makes you lack comprehension skills

And as a usually right of centre voter myself i am being polite (that and i dont want to be deleted

PumpkinPiloter · 10/06/2017 13:12

After I read the thread title I came here as a lefty agreeing that as these MP's vote with the conservatives anyway it is no big change as long as they do not extract a heavy price for their compliance.

However after reading the OP in full I realise you are an idiot/troll.

Melao · 10/06/2017 13:12

So true Ravenblack. Labour voters caused the coalition so like it or lump it.

EdmundCleverClogs · 10/06/2017 13:12

A Tory majority would have been far better

Why? The Tories haven't shown any reason why they deserve to be in power, either partially or completely. Especially after their awful campaign. Why should we all drop our personal values and just go with the Tories?

Ravenblack · 10/06/2017 13:12

May won't resign. She is a stubborn old boot who will dig her heels in and refuse to move no matter how some in her party may want her to leave.

Oh wait, I think that was someone else. PMSL. Grin

Still waiting for the "very valid point" the OP claims to have made.

sexcauldron · 10/06/2017 13:12

It's pretty easy to see why folk are pissed off regardless of their political persuasion. The DUP are outdated and frankly offensive to civilised society. A petition demonstrates people's right to complain. Probably won't actually do anything but you seem to have your panties in a bigger twist about the petition than those signing it do about the DUP.

Also, sterling job of picking out the only quotes from people who agree with you, I really enjoyed reading all two of them.

Get over yourself.

Ravenblack · 10/06/2017 13:13

Gotta laugh at how people who have no argument call 'troll' or' goady fucker.'

Get over yourselves.

Um.......you do know all "left wing" voters aren't Corbynites. But damn them causing a political shit storm by, you know, exercising their right to vote for who they want. Don't you just HATE that type.

The only person to blame is TM and her terribly failed vanity election.

But still Raven - thanks for the link to the petition. Signed and shared Grin

Pagwatch · 10/06/2017 13:14

It's really depressing reading some of this idiotic childish stuff.

Boynamedsue · 10/06/2017 13:14

People are of course entitled to their religious beliefs, however religious extremism has no place in politics.

corythatwas · 10/06/2017 13:15

I am not a great fan of Jeremy Corbyn, but I would like a strong stable economy.

And I can't help seeing that that has been achieved by other countries who were equally badly hit by the banking crisis but have made a much better recovery. A lot of them with Labour/middle of the road governments.

The UK otoh is currently the slowest growing economy in Europe. Austerity has not helped our financial recovery, and the threat of Brexit seems to put it back even further. TM's constant U-turns and wobbliness are unlikely to promote confidence. And confidence in the British economy is something we are badly going to need if we are to make a new future post-Brexit.
