AIBU to be disgusted? I'm reading that she will allow a UK debate on abortion limits to secure the DUP's support.

She's a disgrace. I don't care if you voted Tory or Labour or for Lord Buckethead, but surely any woman must feel appalled that their rights are up for sale to secure her (untenable anyway) position.

Fuck. Do you have a source?

catgirl1976 · 10/06/2017 09:31

Hang on will find one

Omg is this true?

VladmirsPoutine · 10/06/2017 09:33

Do you have a link to a credible news story regarding this?

My own view is that TM should resign. But as far as I know, talks regarding this 'support' agreement between Conservatives and DUP have not concluded.

catgirl1976 · 10/06/2017 09:34

Hmm I can't find anything concrete but it's all over twitter - apparently a Conservative being interviewed on R4 said it.

I will try to find something more conclusive than twitter - hopefully the R4 transcript

She has sold her soul.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 10/06/2017 09:34

It was Owen Paterson on R4 this morning, suggesting that they'd have a vote on lowering the abortion limit to gain DUP support.

There's another discussion here

Maudlinmaud · 10/06/2017 09:35

And so it begins

Cocklodger · 10/06/2017 09:35

Oh god 😔

catgirl1976 · 10/06/2017 09:36

Owen Patterson on Radio 4 yesterday apparantly

Just found a thread in Chat about it as well - an MNetter on there heard the interview

We cannot let this happen. I am overseas but a uk citizen what can I do to help?

catgirl1976 · 10/06/2017 09:38

Cross post Ovaries - sorry

OP posts:
sashh · 10/06/2017 09:39

TM has voted to reduce the timescale before.

Sorry I can't find the document I was looking for - it gave the record for all the party leaders votes on abortion.

DH called her a cunt the other day and I bawled him out for saying that (although I've never heard him call any female a cunt nor does he even use that word).

But if this is true then she absolutely is.

astoundedgoat · 10/06/2017 09:42

That's not what she has said. Davidson said "You might get a debate I suppose on further reduction of abortion times as medical science advances." and this is a valid concern. When the current limits were set in place, they were comfortably beyond the stage at which a foetus could survive. Now premature babies as young as 22 weeks can make it, which changes the way we have to look at it.

Abortion should be freely available to any woman who wants one. At the same time, terminating a pregnancy AFTER the point at which the unborn baby can survive is problematic for many people, including me.

astoundedgoat · 10/06/2017 09:43

Sorry, Paterson, not Davidson.

NoLoveofMine · 10/06/2017 09:44

It's what many feared as soon as the talk of an agreement with the DUP began. Remember that many Tories also agree with the DUP position - including the current Health Secretary. Many on social media already sense their moment has come and are spouting their anti choice lines. This is extremely worrying as many women in Northern Ireland have been warning for years. Combined with all the funding anti choice groups in the UK receive from America abortion rights are under major threat now I fear.

NoLoveofMine · 10/06/2017 09:45

Then never do it. It's no-one's choice but the woman herself.

IvorHughJarrs · 10/06/2017 09:46

I suspect it's all speculation. Politicians, as always, have their own interests at heart so have the knives out for her rather than trying to pull together for the sake of the country.

Don't let them scare you

Foslady · 10/06/2017 09:50

Strange how this valid concern only became an issue that could be brought up in the Commons so soon after an election when she only has the DUP to beg to....medical science is being used an an excuse (which seems a bit rich considering they are the party of choice for the creationalists.....)

This, hearing about a baby that made a noise after being aborted around the 23/24 weeks I think the cut off point should be lowered

So don't have or perform a 22 week plus abortion. Simple.
I'm sure you know the outcome stats for babies born at 22 weeks.
