Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck. I'm chief bridesmaid for my best friend TODAY, AND SHE's just decided she can't go through with it. We're in a hotel, both of the families are here as well as quite a few of the guests. Apparently drowning myself in prosecco is not an option, so I need practical advice.

Presumably a bit of human interest to balance out the hideousness of today's events.

Not a good idea nonetheless.

PacificDogwod · 14/06/2017 18:47

The BBC quoted me Blush[misses point of thread entirely]

Honestly, ridiculous bit of fluff 'journalism' but still

McTufty · 14/06/2017 18:57

Quoted me too!

Anyway, sorry it's been publicised OP. I hope the Bride was ok about it, no one on here has any idea who she is, and you only posted in order to get advice as to how best to help her. It's crappy that it's caused awkwardness for you Flowers

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/06/2017 19:00

They quoted me too

MrsJamin · 14/06/2017 20:16

That's really shit, what's the BBC come to? How lazy.

Mummatron3000 · 14/06/2017 21:44

I just emailed using the link on that page to say I thought it was shameful & that it was not journalism.

honeyroar · 15/06/2017 04:21

Sherie Ryder you're no journalist, you're just a thief who steals her work. No talent whatsoever involved in what you do.

ruru1981 · 15/06/2017 09:44

Where was the story printed?

ruru1981 · 15/06/2017 09:45

I assume you do not have to ask for permission?

caffeinestream · 15/06/2017 09:49

No, anything posted on here is in the public domain. They can quote whatever they like.

prettywhiteguitar · 15/06/2017 09:59

Why on earth is this considered news ?? What is the matter with journalists

Lostinaseaofbubbles · 15/06/2017 10:15

Bless you - I hope your friendship remains intact!

ruru1981 · 15/06/2017 10:23

I often worry some of my posts might be in the Mumsnet daily email or on their Facebook page 😬😬 I name check to try and avoid being recognised x

SequinsOnEverything · 15/06/2017 11:52

I've been oretty pissed off with the bbc over their biased covering of the election amd now they have sunk to the level of stealing posts and presenting them as news Angry
I expect so much more from them.

Hope your friend isn't too annoyed with you and understands you were just looking for practical advice.

PoorYorick · 15/06/2017 12:08

It's a pretty common strategy to trawl internet discussion forums for ideas for content. Then you've got topics that you know people are already discussing and therefore find interesting.

I think it's lazy journalism, but it honestly doesn't bother me from a privacy perspective. Mumsnet is a major, public website available all over the world. It's widely read enough that people frequently name change and so on because it's so likely that their friends and acquaintances are looking. So I don't really care about stuff on one very public website being quoted on another very public website.

PoorYorick · 15/06/2017 12:10

Why on earth is this considered news?

Well, it's not really...it's more a human interest story that isn't time sensitive except for the fact they're using MN as the hook and therefore need to act while the story's fresh.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/06/2017 12:29

At least, and it is a very tiny least, they didn't include posters' names in that BBC piece. It's still piss-poor "journalism" - but not as bad as the Daily Heil.
