I'm hoping he'll decide to contest his seat again at the next election. And that an election might be held fairly soon. He was so pro-EU and seemed to have so much passion and conviction :(

I think he was a good man but political sheen-ness got in the way.

I also feel for him tbh. It was close. It's probably no consolation but at least it wasn't a landslide against him.

I felt sad for him too, even though I'm not Lib Dem. He always comes across as a very decent bloke and I believe he was a really committed constituency MP.

I agree - sad news. He made some difficult decisions and must have some huge political regrets. He always seemed like a decent person in an impossible position.
