So sad that he lost his seat. Really liked him.

OP posts:

I remember him saying (on the radio/interview?) that he was so upset about coalition that he'd wake up crying. :(

I used to do that when I was severely depressed. Made me feel for him massively.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 09/06/2017 04:07

He lied about putting up student fees & "stabbed" his brother in the back over the leadership of the LD. That's why I'm glad.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 09/06/2017 04:08

And you're fine to be glad, that's okay.

But why come and gloat on a thread where people are upset?

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 09/06/2017 04:10

Ye Gods. Never mind.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 09/06/2017 04:10

Great response Hmm

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/06/2017 04:12

Indeed totally bizarre Hmm.

Terfing · 09/06/2017 04:15

I look forward to seeing him on Strictly Come Dancing!

boatyroo · 09/06/2017 04:16

" "stabbed" his brother in the back over the leadership of the LD. That's why I'm glad."

Are you sure you're thinking of the right person?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 09/06/2017 04:19

Are you sure you're thinking of the right person?

Yes, wasn't that the Miliband brothers? Who were Labour. I know they both begin with 'L' but...

UterusUterusGhali · 09/06/2017 04:19

Ummm, steam, are you not confusing him with Ed Milliband?

NameThatPrune · 09/06/2017 04:20

I'm really sorry to hear that for Nick Clegg too. As PP said, he will be a huge loss to Parliament and LD party and he has done a great deal of good- it seems obvious now that when the LDs were in coalition they protected the country from the Tories as best they could.

tabbymog · 09/06/2017 04:27

Good riddance. He couldn't have been surprised. One of the most egregious failures of principle and turnarounds on party policy I've seen in a lot of years. Without that coalition agreement the Tories couldn't have done as much damage to this country as they have.

OlennasWimple · 09/06/2017 04:28

I'm sorry to see Clegg's loss too. I hope that he finds a meaningful role in public life (not just booted into the Lords, though in due course he should head in that direction). I still hanker after my multi-party Brexit negotiating team, and he would be an excellent addition to that (along with Keir Starmer and Ruth Davidson)

HowMuchDoWeNeed · 09/06/2017 04:41

Hope he sees this thread. I think he was a good'un too

The80sweregreat · 09/06/2017 04:46

Clegg one of those rare things, a politician i liked!

Malfoyy · 09/06/2017 04:58

It's sad to lose him. I've always liked him.

Spice22 · 09/06/2017 05:25

I'm gutted and he looked gutted though. But yes, hopefully he will come back next time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2017 05:28

Poor Nick. I understand why they went Labour, but they've lost a really good man.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/06/2017 05:31

Gutted for him. I hope he's able to pick up something good instead. Poor bloke looked broken.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 09/06/2017 05:35

He's paying the price for tuition fees I feel. There are two universities in his constituency I believe. The Scottish Lib dems delivered on that promise in coalition in Scotland. He didn't get anywhere near enough concessions from the Tories. Rightly or wrongly, he is seen as responsible for that. History will be a bit kinder and remember the good as well. But like Lloyd George in doing some good (not enough imo) he destroyed his party for the foreseeable future.

PeachPearPotato · 09/06/2017 05:56

Sad. I hope he sees this thread too. I like his wife as well.

birdsdestiny · 09/06/2017 05:59

I have been the kiss of death in this election. At some point during this long night I decided I fancied Nick Clegg.

Riversleep · 09/06/2017 06:02

I'm sad abour Nick Clegg and Vince Cable. I really thought people would realise what a good MP Vince Cable was and re elect him. Im really surprised about Nick Clegg too. Glad LD's got a few more seats but hoping for more.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2017 06:06

Did Vince not get in? :(

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 09/06/2017 06:15

I'll miss Nick and his beautiful face.
